MS TEXAS SENIOR AMERICA Hello, allow me to introduce myself.I am Dr Terre D. Quinn, Ms Texas Senior Am erica 2023. Texas Senior America is an organizat ion t hat seeks to represent the posit ive image of aging in women over 60.I am a breast cancer surgeon in the Plano, Texas area and have practiced surgery for over 27 years - what a joy it is to do what you love!Aside from educating women about breast cancer and its treatment. I am an advocat e for women?s health in general, and relish each opportunit y to encourage ot hers regarding simple lifest yle choices that can reduce risk for cancer and cardiovascular events.As Ms Texas Senior America, I am excited about having a broader platform to champion women?s health, but aware that t here are ot her needs in our community. I am struck by t he increase in violence against women t hat seem s to happen almost daily in the news, and recently discovered there was a 10% rise in intim ate part ner abuse during t he COVID pandemic. I am learning that intimat e partner abuse, physical or emotional, crosses all socioeconomic lines, and men are victims as well.As I int erface wit h the public, I am hoping t o decrease the number of vict ims of domest ic abuse by reaching out t o our youth, the young ladies in particular, and educat e t hem about what healthy and balanced relationships look like - sharing the red flags of potentially controlling and abusive relationships before t hey become intwined in t hem. One of t he ways that t his can be achieved is t hrough partnership with t he school dist ricts and integration of these truths in the curriculum as tools for life.I am a m ember of Delt a Sigma Thet a Sororit y, Inc, and an avid t ennis player with t he United Stat es Tennis Association. I enjoy dancing, and musical performances from all genres. I play som e piano, and recent ly start ed violin lessons because I hold fast t o the idea that we are limit ed only by what our m inds cannot imagine for ourselves. Dr. Fabliha Anbar is a podiatric surgeon in Riverhead, NY. She graduat ed from Kent State College of Podiat ric Medicine and underwent a 3-year surgical residency program at Interfait h Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY where she was the chief surgical resident during her last year. Current ly, she owns a pediatric privat e practice, Q Foot Care of Long Island, and is affiliat ed wit h Podiatt ic Bay Medical Cent er and Mat her Hospit al (both part of Northwell Healt h). She also mentors Am erican and int ernat ional student s who are pursuing a degree in medicine or science.Dr. Anbar was Mrs. New York USA Am bassador 2022 and placed in the top 5 at t he national level. Her plat form is advocat ing for female voices in t he fields of m edicine and science. From her experience as a female surgeon and having female friends and family in science, t echnology, and medicine (STEM), she realized that females do not have the voice and respect they deserve in t hese fields as surgeons, doct ors, scient ists, etc. Therefore, she hopes to change how people treat females employed in these types of careers. As an all-American college girl, cheerleader, homecoming queen, fraternit y sweetheart, and sorority sister, I went on to survive t he most challenging m edical and personal life adversit ies. Since surviving a rare cancer and an aorta replacement, both near-death experiences, I feel blessed and grateful to be here through strong faith, prayers, and the support of family, friends, and clergy.My personal life after marriage, found me raising my son as a single mom. I am passionate about children and motherhood and for that reason, I chose a profession in teaching. As a m aster t eacher, direct or of the nature t rail, media center coordinator, cheerleading coach, and ot her various tit les through t he years, I was honored wit h being named 1 of 2 out of 1300 teachers, nominat ed for the Am erican teacher award. I also was a distinguished alumnus one of 10,000 alumni appearing in my college?s bicent ennial edit ion and chosen to represent the college in t he Am erican Beauty Pageant.Having earned a BS, MS, and Peabody Fellow (Yale), my part-time modeling jobs generated enough money for my mast er?s degree courses. The modeling also prompt ed me to compet e in various beauty t it les such Ms Int ?l Circus Queen, Ms Young Marine, Ms New England MCI, Ms Acacia, and various other titles, leading to m y present adventure of entering senior pageants. I was fortunate to achieve t he tit les of Ms Rhode Island Ms. America, Ms Connecticut Sr World, and Ms Verm ont Sr Am erica, and chose my platform to improve senior lives as a senior advocate.I have been featured on TV, radio, the int ernet, and in magazines, pamphlets, and newspapers, at fundraisers as an MC, and in live performances. I have a copyrighted single CD, t it led ?My Darling Son? for which I wrote lyrics and music and sang vocals. Yes, I am a busy queen, but always available for a cause.PLATFORM:I am fort unate to represent seniors as a senior advocate. Being a ret ired cert ified teacher, I still enjoy teaching in a different venue. Presently, my quest and enjoyment are teaching seniors how to improve their lives into a healthy, happy, fun-filled life.Very often senior advocates encounter problem s with housing, medical, and financial aspects. It is vit al to get informat ion to seniors, and their families so t hey can be educated t o assist them wit h solut ions.Helping seniors t o live independently wit h dignity, requires companion programs t o avoid assist ed living. Dr. Kara Edmond was born in Washington, D.C., and raised between North and South Carolina. She currently resides in coastal Charlest on, SC, and is the mother of a beaut iful 8-year-old compet it ive gym nast.Dr. Edmond's primary career is worlds away from the glamour of acting, modeling, and pageant ry. Her first degree, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, was obt ained from Xavier University in Louisiana, one of the strongest performing HBCUs in t he country. She went on to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesiology, both from the Medical University of South Carolina. She only recently concluded her educational journey last May wit h t he attainment of a Doct or of Nurse Anesthesia Pract ice from Missouri Stat e Universit y.Dr. Edmond's plat form centers on the healt hcare t raining and education of aspiring nursing graduat es. In the operat ing room, she works diligently wit h these student s to help perfect t heir craft and ensure t hey graduate with t he needed tools to be com petent , caring, exceptional nurse anesthesiologist s. She furt her executes her passion for education by mentoring RN student s and ICU nurses who desire to be nurse anesthesiologist s who administer anesthesia and pain relief to surgical pat ients. Wit hout ment orship and guidance, many capable students are excluded from t his little-known career path because of the rigor of the admissions process and the labor-intensive training.Dr. Edmond currently serves on 3 committees at bot h the state and national levels and coordinates wit h other educat ors, board members, and healthcare professionals to bring student s a qualit y clinical education experience t hey'll cont inue to hone throughout their careers.Dr. Edm ond's love of acting and modeling start ed at a young age with print work in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. It is only as an adult that she has now chosen to pursue these passions wit h fervor. She began her training wit h her mother agency DeAbreu Modeling Consulting in Columbia SC and has recently signed an exclusive Southeast film/commercial/t elevision contract wit h the longstanding Mault sby Agency. She has enjoyed participat ing in both print and commercial work and is now eager to ut ilize her training on television and the big screen.
