44555Photos by Michael FrancoCROWNS MAGAZINEQ: How have pageants influenced your self-esteem and body image? A: Coming from the modeling world where measurements are strict and when casting to walk a runway, there is pressure to be a perfect sample size 2. My eyes were relieved in pageantry. We can be ourselves! Pageantry is more about inner beauty and emphasizes the successes more than the narrowness of our frame. Pageantry leans more on the content of the heart than the waist size. Pageantry places a greater importance on a woman's personal journey than looking the thinnest in the lineup. Pageantry as an industry has its priorities straight. The beauty of the mind, soul, and heart is the most beautiful.Q: What ?s your strat egy for captivating the judges on stage? A: Take a deep breath and smile. Having a relaxed stance on stage versus being stiff from nervousness sometimes comes down to taking a deep breath and turning the moment over to God. He will give you the strength. When one is anxious and stiff, their stage presence for the judges becomes more robotic than captivating. Hold your head high and smile. Have fun out there; that confidence will come through as a bright light in the room. Work those beautiful curves and put your best self out there. This is the moment to let the judges know the journey bringing you to this moment is all worth it! Q: What are your plans or goals for the upcoming year as a queen? A: If I were so lucky to be crowned with a high title under The Women of Achievement Internationals Pageant, I would invest in my local and broader community with events, personal appearances, service, giving back, media, and speaking engagements to promote my platform and cause. In turn, my wish would be to further help women impacted by breast cancer. The staggering statistics are that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. With those numbers, the more people I reach, the more I find to do! My responsibility becomes exponentially greater. The challenge empowers me because I am helping many more women! Q: Finally, what kind of legacy do you hope to leave behind? A: I hope that my legacy includes love, compassion, and hope. My love for all those who are a part of my life. I want those around me to feel that I love them in every sense of the word. My compassion for those in society who need us the most? the poorest, ill, and most marginalized? to know that I have reached out my hand and filled a need to even a little extent. I would have expanded my legacy if I had impacted one life a day. My hope is to inspire others. Inspiring people to be good to one another, to show love before hate, to give more than they receive, to listen more than they speak, and to hopefully ignite someone else legacy to branch out from mine... in love, compassion, and hope.

2020212121Coaching Sesh: How to pick the gown... that will win you the crown!1. Find some inspo! When you?re buying makeup, you probably make a list of what you want, and dress shopping is no different! When searching for inspo, looking up keywords on Pinterest, scrolling through popular pageant brands? Instagrams, or finding out what past titleholders have worn are great places to start looking. While former queens might inspire you, remember to always keep your unique style in mind. Think about your favorite princess: can you picture Rapunzel in gold or Belle in purple? You want the judges to remember you for YOU, which also applies to your chosen gown!2. Remember the tiara trifecta: color, cut, and categories!Dressing for the category you?re competing in is SO important when picking out your perfect gown! For example, pastel hues, ruffles, chiffon, and ball gowns are typical for teen styles, while jewel tones, cut-outs, form-fitting gowns, and high slits are usually worn by misses. However, there are no rules when it comes to wearing a dress that makes you feel good, and look good. Wearing a dress that makes you feel like a queen is always what is most important!3. Tailored to perfectionWhether your gown is custom couture or a lucky off-the-rack find, make sure that your gown is tailored to your measurements. If your dress has a corset back, is backless, or has cutouts, make sure there aren?t any gaps between your dress and the body. The length of the gown is important too; the hem should be short enough that you won?t trip, but long enough that it touches the ground and covers your heels just right! Remember though, your gown should be comfortable to move and breathe in - after all, it?s not the 1700s!4. Don?t trust the hanger!Dresses are like books: you should never judge a book by its cover, or a dress on a hanger. It can be hard to step out of your comfort zone, but that just might be where your dream dress will be waiting! Although comfort is key, trying on your least favorite color or avant-garde style might surprise you. If you don?t keep an open mind, you?ll never know if that dress you never tried could have helped you discover a new side of yourself. Trying something new could be just the thing to give you the confidence you never knew you needed!5. Accessories are a necessityNo look is complete without the right styling, so make sure you have the accessories to match. If your dress leans more cool-toned, then silver is definitely the way to go, but more warm-toned and gold becomes your best friend! But wait? there?s a third category. If you?ve ever wondered how to ask for accessories that match gowns with multi-colored gemstones, here?s a hint: ask for aurora-borealis jewelry. Thank me later my rainbow girlies!6. Is it your M.P.D.G?Most Perfect Dream Gown, obvi! When you try on a dress, look in the mirror and picture your crowning: you and your dress are illuminated by the stage lights while the crown is being placed on your head and the sash across your chest. Can you picture your crowning moment in this gown? Do you feel confident and ready to take on the competition? Most importantly, do you feel like YOU? If you said yes to all of these, congratulations! You?ve found your M.P.D.G.CROWNS MAGAZINE
