I immediately thought of one of my favorite quot es from one of my heroes, Jane Goodall. She said, 'You aren?t going t o save the world on your own, but you might inspire a generat ion of kids t o save it for all of us!'"Ever since I was a little kid, I?ve always been very environmentally conscious,and I truly believe t hat it will be up to my generation to help solve the current environmental crisis. About two years ago, I was inspired to start Green Grass Roots, a nonprofit organization that encourages kids to get involved in environmental stewardship through educat ion and comm unity service.My foundation has a two-tier focus.?Green Up?is where we host fun meetings t o teach people about the importance of plants for our healt h and t he natural environment. We collect plants and supplies to t each people how t o care for and cultivate indoor plants. Did you know that just two medium-sized houseplants can clean up to 80% of your indoor air?Plants also aid in concentrat ion, productivity, and mental healt h.My second focus is?Clean Up.?Green Grass Root s encourages youth to help keep our fragile coastal waterways clean. Our volunteers travel by boat to inaccessible beaches along the Intracoastal Wat erway to collect t rash left in areas inhabit ed only by native wildlife. The Florida Intracoastal Waterway is also an im port ant conduit t o the ocean, and by keeping it clean, we help protect our oceans as well. To date, we?ve removed over 4,000 pounds of plast ic waste.As part of our foundation, I also wrot e and illustrat ed a book called The ABCs of Green Up Clean Up. This book teaches kids how they, too, can do their part in helping to clean up our planet . I believe that by educating today?s youth, we have a bett er chance of creat ing a greener, cleaner fut ure. I hope to expand my impact through my writing, my books, and by growing my foundation beyond Jacksonville to inspire t he next generation of kids to help save t he world for us all.Author and environment al advocat e!
