D1 Beyond Appreciation By Communications Team Pictures provided by the D1 Team When you think of appreciation what do you think of Is it verbal communication from someone Could it be a time of giving gifts Maybe it s getting an award for something that you have done While all of those count as appreciation the act of appreciation goes much further than that Without appreciation life feels dull and lifeless All the beauty goodness vibrancy peace light love kindness mystery magic and miracles go unnoticed and what a shame that would be It s important to acknowledge and share appreciation because there is much in life to be thankful for even when there seems to be no reason Provide balanced feedback Appreciation can often be misunderstood Gratitude doesn t come with a dollar amount and shouldn t be attached to a calendar Appreciation It s genuinely about feeling valued as a person it s is receiving balanced feedback If feedback is always negative People will feel like they re never doing anything right Conversely if it s always positive it will make them question whether the feedback is sincere Therefore you need to praise good work and balance it against constructive feedback to help People grow so they feel like any praise is more valid Appreciation is an essential ingredient of high performing teams When we champion it simply because it s the right thing to do we will see happier People who are more engaged loyal and hard working How you choose to show appreciation is of course entirely up to you Just remember that showing appreciation shouldn t be complicated If you re ever struggling simplify things and have an open and honest conversation with your People That in itself is an act of appreciation that they ll value greatly page 07

Culture is not something Crescent takes for granted; our ongoing successflourishes only in an atmosphere where individual differences are appreciated, mistakes are tolerated, communication is open, and rules are flexible – the kind ofatmosphere in a nurturing family- the Crescent Community. We want to honor ourMulti-Cultural Community and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, an annualcelebration of the history and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanics, commemorating how those communities have influenced and contributed toAmerican society, and Crescent.page 08Celebrate Our Multi-Cultural CommunityHeritage Month September 15th - October 15th A diverse mix ofvoices leads tobetter discussions, decisions, andoutcomes foreveryone."HIS A CP NIThe timing of Hispanic Heritage Month coincides withthe Independence Day celebrations of several LatinAmerican nations. September 15 was chosen as thekickoff because it coincides with the IndependenceDay celebrations of five “Central American neighbors”—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, andNicaragua. Those five nations declared independencefrom Spain on September 15, 1821, and Mexico onSeptember 16, 1810.To help capture the essence of the HispanicCommunity, we spoke to a few community members,Nahirys Figueroa Rivera, Hermilla Hernandez, LauraLeal, and Erika Rodriguez, about the importance ofHispanic Heritage Month and invited them to share apiece of their culture with us and their story. This made him a champion for inclusiveness andone of the most powerful voices for diversity in the Hispanic world.About Puerto Rico...Puerto Rico, officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, is an unincorporated territory of the United Stateslocated in the northeast Caribbean Sea. The name Puerto Rico (rich port) is derived from the abundant gold theinitial Spanish settlers found on the island, It is also called “the land of the Valiant Lord. The most famous tradition, is participating in Parranda, their version of a ChristmasCarol. Family and friends will gather in front of a home after 10 pm to sing together, leading to neighbors joiningand sharing drinks between families. "Our family is what makes us and shapes us.Culture, traditions, and beliefs are integral to our character." The entire family settles geographically close toeach other and sometimes, generations of a family live together. The family's role is to provide each other withmaterial and moral support. Families are more like clans, giving each other emotional support and practicalguidance. Instead of just focusing on their own development, Mexicans give more emphasis on uplifting thestatus of their entire clan. Social status does not matter much to them; it’s all about the sustenance of all.We are all about familyMichoacan, Mexico, a beautiful CountryMexico's name is not Mexico! Never Forget Your Roots..."Mexico is rich in its heritage, and it's made up of many factors youcannot separate yourself, such as genetics, language, and events.By understanding the events of the past. People often spend muchtime in young adulthood trying to understand who they are; inMexico, we make sure that our families grow and learn about theirpast and traditions and continue to pass them on. That's why Ipreserve and teach it to my kids. It is who we are, and what hasmade me who I am today." - Erika Rodriguez. You must see your heritage as an inheritance with tremendousvalue. I tell everyone I have people in my family of all backgrounds,African and Indian, and we share all the things of Mexico withthem. It's sad to have a rich heritage and not know about it sinceit's part of who you are. Your heritage is not just something thatyou should know and understand, but it's also something thatshould be shared with your children and grandchildren... accuratelypreserved for generations. - Laura LealBajada de Reyes, The Feast of the Three Wise Men, on the 12th ofDecember, is widely celebrated. In 1908, Ford released the Model T, and it was the firstcar to gain mass market appeal and success at atime when many people still traveled by horse. HenryFord improved the production process, but did youknow that Karl Benz created the internal combustionengine, and many other engineers subsequentlyenhanced the design for better efficiency, comfort, and performance? Yes! This is true.page 13E1: Diverse thinking – The key to creativityand innovationBy: Tristan Myers, Site People ManagerWithout the ideas of Karl Benz and others, the Model T would have never been possible. Thepower of active listening and diversity of thought can’t be overestimated. It took thecollective to make the Model T what it was and is to this day. The Voice of the People hasalways been a part of the E1 culture, but over the past quarter, we have taken giant leaps inproviding outlets for people to have their voices heard. If you only hear from certain People inthe company, your site will inevitably have blind spots. In June, we launched our new digitalized program for people to submit feedback 24/7, 365, and wehave received some great feedback and ideas. The site leadership team will review and follow up as People submit feedback. Many suggestions have led to some additional equipment and tools being purchased for the site. For example, we have added new chairs to the breakroom and are looking into other floorcommunication methods, including radios and phones. In addition to the digital outlet for VOP feedback, the leadership team developed a new programthat will be launched in October, Crescent Connections! Through this program, all people on thefloor can sign up for a monthly roundtable hosted by a member of the E1 Site Leadership Team inconjunction with the People Group. Why People Don't Speak up...The long and the short of it is: that they're scared. The primaryneed of any human being is to ensure their safety and survival. And if you think about it, we work to survive. The bottom line isthat we can't expect productivity or innovation if we don't takecare of people's wellness and safety in the workplace. So whatcan your site do to boost your Voice of the People Program? Stepnumber one, invite them to use their voice.Ford Model T 1908-1927 HOME

C1:GE Thriving like a ROCKSTAR!By: Pat Collins, Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement Managerpage 15The week before, we hosted the FAA for a periodicregulatory audit at GE2/3. From the FAA, we receivedhigh praise for our Continuous Improvements. We alsoreceived Zero Noncompliances. Zero audit findings. One previous AS9120 auditor reported that about 2%of audits result in zero findings.Audits. It is a time when all the hard work we put into ourProcesses, connecting our People to our Purpose, comes underhigh scrutiny and pressure. Whenever someone wants to tradejobs with me for a week, I offer up the week the auditor is here. Most people decline the offer. It is a year-round effort by ourPeople and Leadership to maintain compliance. What goesinto the preparation for this level of surveillance from outsideparties? Each requires knowing one ormore procedures and sign-off tothose work instructions. Several ofour material handlers wereinterviewed through the audits.People like Cherrelle Bluser,Guillermo Abello, Wilman Trinidad, and Taylor Ott guided the auditorswith glee through our Processes. They knew we had our work undercontrol. In Crescent’s Quality Policy Statement, we promise to achieve Premier Service Provider statuspartly through quality management and compliance with regulatory and food safety initiatives.During the week of June 20 this year, we lived up to that demand on ourselves. For the third year ina row, Crescent’s LG GE2, 3, and now 4; went through the annual AS9120 compliance audit withzero nonconformances. We had zero audit findings.Material Handlers, Faty Ba and Cherelle Bluser takea moment to smile for the camera. We are first adopting the mindset of Compliance. We write procedures describing the work we dofor the customer. Then, we train to those procedures. We ensure that our People know where tolocate those instructions and how to follow them throughout the year. Our leaders have built arobust training system, complete with functions across the departments we train.

Page 16

C1: GE Thriving like a ROCKSTAR!page 16We thrive because wehave adopted themindset of ContinuousImprovement. TheAS9120 auditor statedhow he was amazed wecan still mineimprovement out ofwhat seems to be asimple operation. We invest in our People.Logistics manager, John Chaney, walkedthe auditor smoothly through our GE2Drop Area project and the savings whichcame of it. We start with analysis, generate ideas, pick the best forexecution, and complete those projectsin the areas with the greatest need. Asof this writing, James Raterman and JoeSiemering are leading the project tomake Continuous Improvementtracking even more accessible. And, forthe first year in our relationship with ourNumber One Customer, we share in thesavings realized by these improvements. We provide them with the Tools and Training needed to Do it Right. One auditor asked severalPeople what else they needed to improve the job. The response by each was along the lines of“Nothing. We have what we need.” That is the auditor’s favorite answer. Cherrelle Bluser evenshowed off the new wireless scanners she got for spare processing orders. Knowing our People cansay Tools are not a gap means we are Doing it Right. Listen to our People. They often know whatelse is needed to Get Stuff Done.Through the structured principles of “Aligning our People to our Purpose through robust Process”and “Investing in our People through SCARF and STAR,” thriving during audit time becomes anotherday in the warehouse. It becomes another day to look for more ways to get better.

Butpersonal character is becoming somewhat elusive like many professionals in history whotraded the inheritance of their reputations for the pottage of dollars and cents. They'vebecome day traders, bartering (exchanging) the wealth of the eternal for the pittance (scrap)of the temporary. "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing it right",the ancient leadership adage demands. Butleaders of character are more concernedwith doing the right thing than they arewith doing things right. Right methodswithout the right motives are shallow atbest and evil at worst. In the end, a greatleader is not a person who can simply getthe job done. It is the person who knowshow to link motives with methods.Leadership that makes a differenceincludes a personal willingness to do theright thing. It makes tough choices- moralchoices, spiritual choices, ethical choices, right choices. HOME
