Founded in 1978, CPAF’s mission is to build healthy and safe communities by addressing the root causes and consequences of family violence and violence against women. CPAF specializes in serving low-income Asian and Pacific Islander (API) survivors of domestic and sexual violence and is committed to meeting the specific cultural and language needs of API women and their families. A NEED FOR CPAF• LA County has a larger number of API residents (1.5 million) than all but threestates in the U.S., representing over 45 distinct ethnic groups speaking 28languages and many dialects. 65% of APIs in LA County are immigrants and34% have limited English proficiency.• Though comprising 12% of the population in the City of LA, API victimsrepresent only 2% of domestic violence reports to law enforcement, and lessthan 3% of sexual assault reports, suggesting significant levels of under-reporting. Many API immigrants are unaware of the services available tothose experiencing violence, due to lack of language access and culturallyappropriate outreach and education.• The COVID-19 pandemic increased barriers to API survivors seeking support, while exposing them to increased harm from anti-API racialized violence.
