Message August 2025 In 1980, Terry Fox set out on a mission that would capture the hearts of Canadians andinspire a nation. With unwavering determination and a prosthetic leg, he began theMarathon of Hope—a cross-country run to raise funds and awareness for cancerresearch. Although his journey was cut short after 143 days and over 5,000 kilometres,Terry’s message and impact have only grown stronger. His bravery, resilience, and hopecontinue to unite people across Canada and around the world. This August, we honourTerry’s legacy—not just as a national hero, but as a symbol of what it means to nevergive up. Let his story remind us that one person can spark incredible change, andtogether, we can keep his dream alive."Even if I don't finish, we need others to continue. It's got to keep going."- Terry Fox

Thisis more than just a stroll—it’s an opportunity to pay quiet tribute, to remember, and to be part ofsomething deeply meaningful. We welcome you to come, walk, and remember with us this summer.Reston Memorial Park Dutch Elm Disease (DED) is a serious threat to elm trees in Manitoba, and our Municipality iscommitted to proactive prevention and management. We are proud participants in the 2024/2025Community Forest Grant Program, which helps fund efforts to monitor, treat, and remove affectedtrees. You may notice that a tree or trees have been tagged by the province when you see an orangespray painted ring around the trunk. This is done by the Province of Manitoba Forestry and PeatlandBranch. Each spring, we apply a targeted insecticide to the base of all elm trees within the Town ofReston on public and private properties. This spray helps eliminate elm bark beetles, the main carriersof DED, before they can climb and infect the trees. As part of the Community Forest GrantAgreement, we are responsible for removing elm trees that are confirmed to have DED, hazardous orlikely to spread the disease. To maintain grant eligibility and transparency, we must submit a FinalReport and Tree List to the Province. Residents can help prevent the spread of DED by not pruningelm trees during the restricted period Properly disposing of elm firewood.Reporting suspicious tree symptoms to the Provincial Tree Line at 204-945-7866 or tree.line@gov.mb.ca. Together, we can protect and preserve the trees that make our community beautiful and vibrant.Reminder: Avoid pruning elm trees between April 1 and September 30, as this increasesthe risk of beetle infestation.
The Rural Municipality of Pipestone would like to kindly remind all property owners to ensurethat trees and shrubs on their property are properly trimmed back, particularly thoseencroaching on roadways, sidewalks, or municipal right-of-ways. Overgrown vegetation canobstruct visibility, impede snow removal and maintenance operations, and pose safety hazards topedestrians and drivers alike. We appreciate your attention to this matter and your continuedcooperation in keeping our communities safe, accessible, and well-maintained.Thank you for doing your part!— RM of PipestoneDiscover Local History at the Reston & District MuseumPictured: Reston Museum StaffNestled within the peaceful setting of Reston’s Memorial Park, the Reston & District Museum invitesvisitors to step back in time and explore the area’s rich heritage. Reston Fairgrounds: A Community-Led Success Story The Reston Fairgrounds is proudly owned by the Pipestone Albert Agricultural Society (PAAGS).The AG Society oversees all red buildings and horse facilities, and partners with Reston MinorBaseball and the Reston Rockets to maintain the public washrooms. Baseball activity happens insidethe track, where Reston Minor Ball owns and maintains all green buildings, diamonds, dugouts, fencing, and the canteen. Baseball also shares responsibility for the washrooms with PAAGS. RestonMinor Ball has a lease agreement with the Ag Society, which outlines responsibilities for care andmaintenance. The Rural Municipality of Pipestone and the Reston Local Urban District lend supportwhere possible, especially for mowing and event preparation, though assistance must be requested.Reconstruction of the diamonds began in the early 1980s, starting with the senior diamond. In 1986,the northwest diamond was added to host Senior Provincials, with fundraising reinvested to upgradeboth diamonds. In 1996, Reston hosted 10U Provincials, which spurred the full reconfiguration of thefield layout to fit all diamonds inside the track.Through revenue from tournaments andstrong community support, RMB has securedfunding from the RM, government grants, and corporate sponsors. These funds havesupported; backstops & fencing, red shaleinfields, dugouts and canteen washroomupgrades, potable water infrastructure andover time, these facilities have been updatedand repaired due to flooding, wind damage, and general wear. The Pipestone AlbertAgriculture Society has revitalized itsinvolvement, especially during the annual fair. The South West Saddle and Spurs 4-H Club continues to enhance the ring area with new paint andgates over the past few years. The RM of Pipestone has been a consistent partner, assisting withmowing and offering capital grants to support long-term facility upkeep. All groups using theFairgrounds share one goal: maintaining and improving our facilities. While this is not an RM-ownedproperty, it operates independently through the dedication of its users. After the recent U11Provincials, visitors had nothing but praise for our venue, a true reflection of local pride and hardwork.Rental of the grounds for weddings andevents is possible through the Recreationoffice for a fee of $250.
