TimWhited passed this year, ending a courageousbattle with cancer. Like most of you reading thisreport, Tim took great pleasure and pride incontributing to the happiness of literally millions ofpeople around the world. Over his years with theCarousel, he kept it spinning as a volunteer, donor,board member and Board President. Tim was a bigman, with a big voice, a big (cowboy) hat and areally big heart. If you had the good fortune toknow Tim, you won’t forget him. It seems thatthe carousel house is slowly returningto our pre-pandemic visitor levels, andeach year we see more and moresmiling faces. Revenues Total:$364,738Expenses Total:$276,248The Board of Directors worked hard forseveral years to create the financialand leadership stability that wasneeded to be eligible for this taxfunding. When you walk into the Carouselhouse, the magic abounds! In 2023, weshared that magic with over fortydifferent community groups, includingover one hundred riders withdisabilities and several hundred youthand school group riders. We are one ofthe few carousels that is accessible fora wheelchair to ride, becauseinclusivity is important to fulfilling ourmission.The Travis Manion Foundation is aPennsylvania-based nonprofit that“empowers veterans and the families..........2 0 2 3 A N N U A L R E P O R T P A G E 3Total Rides: 70,875Free Rides Given: 1,607of fallen heroes to develop character infuture generations.” They host anannual leadership retreat in Colorado,and stopped by the Carousel for a talkand a few spins. They were moved byMarine Veteran Scott’s story, andchallenged to think about how they willtake that inspiration back to their owncommunities. Hepromised to stick his neck out for allthe carousel creatures, great andsmall, and will be Mayor until 2025.We hosted the First Annual SummerCircus event on July 22 at ChipetaPark, and it was a blast! Suzie-Q-Zbrought delight with her whimsicalface painting, and the Carousel staffand volunteers put together some funcarnival games to play for $1 each.The stars of the show, Circus FoundryLLC, is a professional circus troupebased in Denver. As the acrobats flewthrough the air dazzling the crowd,they showed us unique skills. Theyperformed two shows titled “Play” and“Work,” weaving together jokes andheart-pounding stunts with a story ofgrowing up. Why, when we get older,do we sometimes forget to play? Hereat the Carousel, we remind folks thatwe are all kids at heart, and thatwonder, joy, and play are important toa fulfilling life.There are several new additions to ourmenagerie, as Scott spent lots of timein his carving workshop in 2023. InFebruary, he brought in the ThreeCherubs that are climbing from thecenter ring up the pole, towards ourTw“What a delightful experience! The carousel will absolutely put a smile on your face,Twirling Girl. In October, the Sloth andher two butterfly friends arrived,hanging from the rafters above theSheep. Just a month later, the Beehivearrived above the Giraffe, with severalbees buzzing around it. And just beforethe end of the year, Scott carved aTurtle who sits on the old tool chestnear the carousel motor. Inspired bygood friend George Blevins’ book, Scottthen also carved his smallest creature,Ms. Ladybug.“I fashioned the wings from flakes ofmica. The carousel originally usedmica for the washers in the electricalsystem...
