2022 ANNUAL REPORT PAGE 1 Can you imagine that in 2022 the Carousel of Happiness passed the 1 million rider threshold since opening in 2010 For 13 years the Carousel continues to deliver unparalleled experiences to its 1 000 s of annual visitors and riders as well as being a very important asset to the Nederland Community There are nearly limitless amazing stories and observations from Carousel Operators and Administrators regarding experiences of the Visitors and Riders while at the Carousel On behalf of the Carousel Board of Directors I want to convey MANY THANKS to all of the Carousel Supporters Your participation and continued support is vital to sustain and ensure the Carousel keeps spinning long into the future DON T DELAY JOY Tim Whited President What a happy year it s been I am grateful for all of the new faces I met in 2022 and for some great opportunities to share the story of the carousel with visitors from around the world We have spent a lot of effort working on our long term maintenance plans and the carousel is spinning smoother than ever with thanks to our Maintenance Crew I am especially thankful to Scott Harrison carver and Founder who continues to volunteer his time and energy for maintenance projects We look forward to keeping this carousel going for another century Melody Baumhover Director OUR MISSION OUR VISION We are dedicated to inspiring happiness well being and service to others through stories and experiences We seek to be a welcoming and inclusive hub of positivity that supports enhances and spreads wellbeing happiness and joy

2022 ANNUAL REPORT PAGE 2 Gift Shop 46 758 13 Grant Funding 15 272 4 Your Donations 112 553 32 Ride Tickets 178 537 51 Fundraising 15 375 5 Management 32 928 11 Programs 243 726 84 TICKET SALES ACCOUNT FOR ABOUT 1 2 OF OUR REVENUES WHILE YOUR INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTIONS ACCOUNT FOR ABOUT 1 3 IT S YOUR SUPPORT THAT KEEPS US SPINNING Our revenues and expenditures this year remained similar to 2021 with ticket sales being our largest revenue stream We are very grateful for your support as individual donations remain a significant percentage of our annual revenue Your contributions are what will keep us spinning for years to come This year s donations include a generous contribution from the Carline Family Trust a grant from the Clinton Family Fund and a grant from the Maihaugen Foundation In total over 300 individuals made a financial contribution and many more made a small gift at the donation box in the carousel house In August we contracted with Carousels and Carvings a company with expertise in renovating antique carousels to assist us in developing a long term maintenance plan Their knowledge guided us as our crew worked on the main roller bearings the center pole and the proper alignment of all the crankshafts These projects should keep us fairly well maintained for the next 10 years

2022 ANNUAL REPORT PAGE 3 50 000 Total Rides 66 962 Free Rides Given 1 846 40 000 30 000 20 000 10 000 Over 1 Million Rides July 21 2022 January February March April May June July August September October November December In 2022 we saw a great return of our group visitors many of which could not visit in groups during the pandemic We served over 780 group visitors with half priced rides and the story of the carousel This year the local elementary school interviewed Scott about how the carousel works how he decided what to carve and they created this beautiful shadowbox The carousel house was packed all summer long We saw almost 11 000 rides in July alone And now has seen over one million smiles and added at least that much joy to the world We sold our one millionth ride ticket in July to Olive pictured right local big sister and expert carousel rider Her brother James was our one millionand first rider

2022 ANNUAL REPORT PAGE 4 We welcomed a few world class filmmakers to the carousel house this year First we had a local filmmaker use the carousel as a backdrop for a scene in his fantasy film Then the curator of unique and bizarre Atlas Obscura sent an amazing film crew to capture the magic we see every day As soon as Andrew and Farhod walked into the building they noted they could feel the positive energy After spending a day with Scott and the various folks that helped him start the Carousel of Happiness the Atlas Obscura documentary makers were even more charmed and delighted by the carousel itself and they could have never guessed the special story they d capture while visiting us In June we brought back the annual gala Animals After Dark Maybe you joined us for cocktails a scrumptious Italian Dinner by Decent Bagel and carousel rides It was a wildly successful night raising over 10 000 to support carousel maintenance Be on the lookout for invitations to Animals After Dark 23 in the fall The carousel board and staff hold deep gratitude for Mary who was dedicated to keeping our mountain town a special place Each year the Wingate family sponsors free carousel rides for all during the second weekend of August to celebrate Mary THE TREASURE OF NEDERLAND THE HEART AND SOUL OF THE CAROUSEL AND THE PEOPLE THAT WORK THERE ARE INFECTIOUS YOU CAN T HELP BUT SMILE 2022 VISITOR ERIC S
