NAUTICAL PROJECT 2Bath RemodelObjective: To analyze the wants and needs of a ctional family and improve on their existing oorplan. Complete redesign of shared bath space includes adding a shower and maintaining separate lavatories for two kids while allowing for privacy. Includes hand drafted oor plan & specs for cabinetry, surface materials, lighting, and xtures. “Wharf Rascals” BathDesign Statement cont...BathBath - The primary goals of the bath were to increase the size of the bathing area, add a shower, and keep space functional for use by both kids while allowing for privacy.A general concept for the design was to be fairly gender-neutral and to keep it not too child-like in the permanent elements, so the space can adapt as they grow older. Rugs and artwork can reflect the theme and personality of each child and can easily change as their tastes change. The lavatory area is kept in the same location but split into 2 separate grooming areas each with a large rustic mirror and vessel sink. These are divided with a wall for privacy and decor personalization.Natural colors and textures continue to be used here. Coastal inpiration continues in a more novel, thematic way with a mix of contemporary & rustic nautical references: • Waterfall feature for faucets and shower • Wood-look plank tiles as main flooring with a novel pebble mosaic in the shower floor • Rope, cast iron, and vintage-look crates are used throughout A matte tile was chosen for its slightly irregular, contemporary surface and, as in kitchen, is stacked for a modern look. Blue tile is used as a feature color to define each bathing area from seat to ceiling, while white tile defines the rest of the bathing & toilet area.A tiled floating bench seat ties the tub deck across the room to a built in seat in the shower. Wire baskets for storage and trash can be hidden below. A tiny floating vanity fits nicely on this wall, and is complemented by an easy-to-clean wall-mounted toilet on the adjacent wall. Tiled shelves behind this vanity and toilet make useful space for shared items and decor. The lounge area includes a storage bench and space for stackable crates, along with locker-style tall cabinets for each child. These are kept 78” high so there is room above for additional storage in wire baskets or crates as well.
