The purpose of the Civil Work Administration was to give unemployed citizens a chance to get manual labor jobs during a time when there was very high unemployment.
The CWA was part of the New Deal developed by President Roosevelt to give people work and help end the economic depression.
Americans were put to work in order to make public projects, give people hope and try to get the economy moving.
