Chlamydia was first discovered in 1907 by a Belgium scientist named Stanislaus von Prowazek.

A person can get Chlamydia by doing vaginal, oral, or anal sexual contact with an infected partner.

Chlymidia usually does not have any symptoms but when it does produce symptoms they can be very painful. Symptoms include burning with urination, abnormal discharge, abdominal or pelvic pain is sometimes present, and blood in the urine, urinary urgency (feeling an urgent need to urinate), and increased urinary frequency can occur if the urethra is infected.
