EDITORIAL The opinions expressed in Chatters are not necessarily those of Crossroads Clubhouse,Arahura Trust or Auckland District Health Board. We welcome your feedback and arehappy to pass this on the contributors. Already halfway through the year, and it's been a busy one. New members, new activities, new students. While new things are exciting, there has been plenty of old routines andregular activities. Karaoke, Social rec, kiwi harvest, boot camp and regular nutritiouslunches!!Regular Crossroads eventsSocial Recreation for the last 3 months has been very engaging. In march we went to Milfordbeach with Theresa. there was fun, pizza, kfc a few dips in the sea and walks along thebeach.Ultimately a very chill time. A slight hitch involved an unexpected jump start of thefridge to help us on our way home.Another month was a trip to the domain on a wetter day with an exploration of the Museumwith Shevonne. Was a wet day, but we managed to spend most of it inside. For the social rec led by Nadz we went south, to Otara market, live music and browsingthrough the goods of the market and Why Knot, grabbing some good deals! On pink shirt day we enjoyed a Table tennis competition with great fun and a wee bit ofcompetition Geoffrey took out first position while Paul and Anna were the runners up. Alongwith the best dressed Quinny, Jason young taking out the prize. On the food front there has been an increase in the price from $4 to $5 however you can stillget good bang for your buck. and if you plan your weeks right sometimes you can get a freelunch. We also received a new german food making machine. not sure what meals it can makebut it holds much promise. Called the ThermomixOutside of Crossroads the bus routes remain consistent but prone to delays or rerouting soyou could say not as consistent as they should be. However if you use a car to get around youmay notice a slight reduction in the cost of gas as the Auckland Regional Fuel Tax has beenremoved.Other aspects of Crossroads that have been regular has been the weekly or biweeklybootcamp session with Tania from YMCA up the road. If lifting weights is not your thing, prehaps walking around the block is more your speed, with the walking group.Another routine for many of Crossroads is to enjoy the good food that comes from KiwiHarvest. Shout out to Trey who is a regular driver for the food truck that brings good food formany of us. Not to avoid mention of all who carry the food inside and organize it into all ofour bags. Anna, Shavonne, Chris and Mickie!Sam S.

Easter is a holiday celebrated by Christiansworldwide, commemorating the resurrection ofJesus Christ. Aside from being a Christianholiday people around the world celebrate ittraditionally by having a meal with friends andfamily and also our own version of Easter egghunt. At Crossroads Clubhouse we celebrated Easterwith members and staff by hiding eggs filledwith either chocolates or positive notes, or atask they need to do. E.g. do five pushes or makesomeone smile. It was a good day even though itwas a small activity, everyone participated andenjoyed their time.EAS T ER -By Theresa
As we march down those designated roads while the sun breaks the night, we take in the feeling of what it would be like to experience what our New Zealand and Australian soldiers went through in the frontline. We have reached our Community Hall destination and as we watch the raising of the flag, we remember the people who were once someone’s child, husband/wife, and father/mother. We reflect on the lives that were committed to bettering the futurewe know today. Their great sacrifice to serve their country and people. We shall remember them to support their loved ones who have continued living without them. Wearing the poppy flower pinned to our shirt as a symbol of remembrance and a hope for a peaceful future. We listen to stories of the last few survivors, whom we are fortunate to have with us sharing their experience in the war. May we continue to send our thoughts and prayers to their families in this time of remembrance.ANZAC D AY-By Shevonne

SAMOAN LANGUAGE WEEK — By Shevo nne20th May – 1ST JuneTheme: Tautua i le alofa, manuia le lumana’i. “Serve in love for a blessedfuture” Talofa i outou uma lava. Fa’afetai mo le avanoa na aumai i a te a’u e faiina lefiafiaga i le Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa. Hello everyone. Thank you for giving me theopportunity to celebrate Samoan Language Week. On Monday, I began with a Mix nMatch activity for the Days of the Week which everyone did an amazing job with inmatching the Samoan words to English. Our first participant Hedy did an amazing job. Well done! Also, a big well done toall the members for giving it a go. I enjoyed the team effort brought on byeveryone that attended the session. There was a high interest in learning Samoanamongst the members and staff which I was surprised to see. This motivated meto teach the Months of the Year for our next session. Yet again, everyone did asuperb job at translating and enouncing the words. There was a lot of laughter in the atmosphere, the members were intrigued andwanted more. On Wednesday we learned about common household items. Ipronounced out the Samoan words while the members followed. There was a lotof accurate pronunciation that I could hear amongst the members. Thursday’sactivity was to learn about Samoan colors. There was high participation amongst the members who were all open to learningmore. With a few practice rounds of pronouncing the Samoan colors, everyonemanaged and tried their best to find the English pair. I prepared a quiz for Fridayto test the members on what they have learned during the week. I applaudeveryone for giving their best. The quiz winner is Billy who managed to get 17/18 inthe quiz. Billy was met with very close competitors. Well done to all the memberswho participated in our Samoan Language Week activities. We ended the weekwith a short Samoan siva (dance) session and delicious Sapa Sui with fa’alifu taroand fa’i (Taro and banana dressed in coconut cream). Fa’afetai lava!(Thank you very much!)By Shevonne

ONE LOV E M OVI E RE VIE W -By J a s o n Y . We were lucky enough to watch One Love at clubhousewhich is a movie about Bob Marley. It is more about how hemade his first album Exodus and what really happened afterhe was shot. I really like the movie, to me Rasta and Bob Marley willalways be legends. Above all I give the movie a ten out often. My favourite song of Bob Marley is Could you be loved.
We left Onehunga in two vans the Fridge and the Mouse andwe went to Milford beach reserve. The weather was quitenice. Milford beach is beautiful and some of us went for awalk along the beach. There must be a marina up the riverbecause a launch and a yacht came sailing out of the rivermouth. There was a park bench table where we sat andtalked. We had KFC and pizza and garlic bread kindly suppliedby Theresa. We were going to go to Takapuna and look around after weate, but a driver had left the headlights on in the Fridge! Wehad to figure out how to restart the Fridge by using thejumping cables in the Mouse. Big manpower was used to pushthe bigger van around, and we parked the Mouse next to it. Iused my memory from mechanics to set the cable points onthe right points on the batteries, and I told the drivers whento start and rev the engines. On the second try the Fridgerestarted, thank Christ. If it hadn’t have started again, I don’tknow how the passengers would have got home again. We cancelled the little look around Takapuna and drovealmost in convoy back to Onehunga.MI LF OR D BE AC H - By Davi d G
