DIRECTOR'S REPORTTena Koutou Katoa,It has been almost 9 months since we moved to our new premises here inOnehunga. Our members have settled in quite well having adjusted to thecommute and travel time getting to Clubhouse. The work-ordered day hasbeen in full swing and has been modified to suit our new place. Crossroads Clubhouse had a lot on its plate in the last semester of the yearmaking up for events that we missed out during lockdowns and the big move. Mental Health Awareness week was made into whole month full of mindfulnessactivities, meditation and relaxation techniques which everyone loved. This yearwe immersed ourselves into learning different island cultures by organizingactivities for Matariki Festival, Te Reo Maori, Samoan and Tongan languageweeks. A 70’s themed mid-winter Christmas lunch gave our members a flashback oftheir youth as we went above and beyond giving clubhouse that 70’s vibe withdisco lights, 70s music and costumes! Our bootcamp has officially started and our new partners at Sir William JordanRecreation Center (YMCA) has joined us on our fitness journey. In line with that,Clubhouse touch rugby players suited up again for the first time after 2 years toplay in the Ember touch tournament with some new recruits that went all outto give the other teams a tough competition. Towards the last quarter of the year, we bid farewell to one of our valued staffJordan as she takes on a new journey ahead of her. But then we welcome oneof our very own, Theresa, as she joins the Clubhouse team and can’t wait towork with our members. It has been a very busy year for us here at Crossroads and there is a lot more tocome for us in 2023. We look forward to seeing everyone visit our newClubhouse and see what’s new and what’s coming in the new year!Nga mihi,Mickie

Of course theWorld Cup was won by the Great Lionel Messi and the Argentinian National SoccerTeam. Another cultural celebration was the 2022 England, Birmingham Commonwealthgames with New Zealand coming out with their best medal tally results up to date, with 20 Gold,12 Silver, 17 Bronze.. 49 medals in total overall. Another major event was Queen Elizabeth’s II royal funeral and Crown PrinceCharles' succession into Kingship. We started the Bootcamp in late October with a hiss and a roar, guidedby our helpful staff from the YMCA. Our group was a diverse bunch fullof enthusiasm and good spirits. The first few days we were shownaround the top floor where most of the Cardio machines lived. The floorwas full of treasures such as treadmills spin bikes and rowing machines.Jason and Lute became cardio bunnies joined by Geoff after hismandatory yoga. A few of the more intrepid of the group would traveldeeper into the depths that the YMCA held. Downstairs provided aplace for our resident boxer Ruppin to don some gloves and dual theboxing bag, downstairs also held a vast array of strength trainingmachines for some of us wanting to bulk up or increase their strength.Weeks past with some residents going 4 or 5 times a week urgedonwards by crossroads staff Mickie and Ezra from the YMCA.IT is fair tosay everyone that joined the bootcamp program got heaps from it andwhile it was not everyone cup of tea and enjoyment may not have beenthe right word to describe everyone’s experience it was enriching andmany laughs were had.BOOTCAMP!- By Sam S.

"LET'S GO TEAM LET'S GO!" as the members and staff cheeredduring the Touch Tournament. Touch tournament is held yearly but the past couple of years, it was sadly canceled due to COVID and this year's event was a success. Thetournament was held at Cox’s Bay, and different services in themental health industry participated in the tournament. Even thoughArahura did not win, the team did their very best and enjoyedplaying. Staff and members also cheered with so much enthusiasmto boost the players’ confidence and game play. The Tournament taught the members to be confident and to be a good team player. Without the members’ participation this wouldn’tbe a successful one. We cannot wait for the next Touch Tournamentwith the new members joining us! TOUCH TOURNAMENT -By Theresa S.

This year we did something a little bit different for mental Healthawareness week. The Mental Health foundation of Aotearoa wanted toraise money in order to gather awareness toward mental health forAotearoa and encourage the message worldwide, so they created amindfulness activities calendar that we needed to participate ineveryday and get people to sponsor us.We did various mindful activities such as Seven minute guidedmediations, Body Scans, Mindfulness Walk, Mindfulness eating,Journaling and ended the month with a 5 minute guided Karakia.Crossroads Clubhouse raised nearly $400 dollars for the Mental HealthFoundation.Thank you to all members who participated in our Mindfulness MonthRemember to take care of yourselves and if you ever find yourselfstressed, just take a step back and take a couple of breaths.Mauri OraMENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK— By Nadz

This is the first time that this activity was done at clubhouseand it was completed with great success. Everyone was keen tolearn how to create their own sushi and they are all excited tosee what the outcome will be. It was first time for everyone to tried and make their own sushi. We gave them different options to choose how they want theirsushi to be and to suit their dietary requirements. We preparedchicken teriyaki, tuna, spam and vegetables (capsicum andcucumber). With the help of Hedy we were able to understand the processof rolling the sushi rice with the seaweeds making sure that wehave that perfect log. It was a great experience for everyone and you can see howthey all enjoyed the session and enjoyed their sushi afterwards. They are all looking forward for the next sushi session. I AM NUMBER FOUR — By Ruppin Theresa’s staff Inauguration at Clubhouse For those who’ve seen the movie “I Am Number Four” they know that thefourth character chased and pursued by the baddies is the hero, star, andmain character of the movie, having powers to vanquish evil, save othersand himself. It is with this same view and concept I see and based this story upon… “TheInauguration of Theresa” as the fourth person to complete Clubhouse’s veryown “Fantastic Four” staff team squadron… with Mickie as Director (BossBaby lol…) Nadia as the Governess (or Top Female Warden, to some)… Markas Clubhouse’s very own Gourmet Master Chef and live version of GordonRamsey!! (without the Effs and obscenities.. sometimes lol) And finally, withTheresa as the Fourth, Debutant, the Belle of the Ball and Face ofCrossroads Clubhouse… mostly at reception, the first to greet and welcomeyou in.

Page 17

I AM NUMBER FOUR — By Ruppin Theresa’s remarkable journey to clubhouse itself is like a movie sequeltrilogy all on its own. The 1st first part, beginning with her “Arrival” at Clubhouse as a tertiarystudent from Unitec pursuing her level 4 certificate work placement role(4 months) of which she passed with flying colours. Theresa then fulfills the 2nd second part of the movie sequel trilogy withher “Return” to Clubhouse working at Residential for a year, an openvacancy taken upon her graduation and success as a student before. And finally… the Finale, 3rd third and last part of the movie sequel trilogy, concluding with Theresa’s “Rise”.. from being a placement student… tobeing employed and working at Residential.. to becoming a full time staffmember at Clubhouse… …This feat, deed and triumph (Student- Residential Staff- Clubhouse Staff)has only been accomplished and achieved by one (1) person.. the Fabulous Nadz.. the Great Governess Nadia herself! A victory only to be earned andequaled by Theresa now! And so in ending… with a great staff team steering and navigating the M.VArahura Crossroads Clubhouse ship on her maiden voyage beyond andinto the foreign waters, seas, and future ahead.. I’d say the journey is safeand sound, and in good hands! Goodluck, All the Best & Congratulations Theresa!!

STUDENTS AT CLUBHOUSE— By Mickie Each year we have Occupational therapy students doing theirplacement hours at Crossroads. But this batch had the most uniqueexperience of having to help transform the new Clubhousetogether with staff and members. Each of the students stood out with their own unique personalityduring the time they were with us. We had Durham otherwiseknown as the “balladeer” as he always sang during our karaokesessions. Jayna as the “dynamo” that always sparked the positiveenergy in Clubhouse. And Holly as the “silent assassin” as she wasknown not to talk too much but always had the job done. Our members were very comfortable and always loved working withthem. Every time these 3 were in Clubhouse it was always a veryexciting day for all of us. Having spent 10 weeks in Clubhouse theyhave established good rapport and built relationships with ourmembers. They played a huge role in making our Mid-Winter Christmas luncha huge success by helping the members and staff with all thepreparation needed. In addition to that they also made our sushimaking day a very exciting one for all of us. It was a pleasure working with Durham, Holly and Jayna and wehope they will not forget the experience with us at CrossroadsClubhouse.

On my phone on $20 credit, I’d be lucky to watch amovie or two.
