She went to bed thinking she’d have an answer in the morning, but here it is already 9:30 am and she’s no closer to knowing what to do than she was when she fell asleep, hoping today would be positive. Peach Megan, a 20-year-old woman looking in had everything figured out ever since leaving the womb. In high school, she was every girl's envy and every guy's dream. “My baby is gonna be the first woman president of the United States,” her dad would always say when boasting about her. Over time Peach began to be annoyed, more because of her insecurity, rather than her Father’s hyperbolic claims for her future. Underneath the veil of her charismatic energy, good looks, and 4.2 gpa, Peach was anxiety-riddled with fears of her middle-school trauma manifesting itself in her future. As a conventionally attractive mixed-race girl, she felt objectified in most of her interactions, social media DMs, and even with some of her friends. Because of this, she tried to overcompensate in the classroom, showing she wasn’t just a pretty face. She wanted the power to choose where she went to school and her career path, and to not be viewed as some trophy for her future husband. She wanted to be in control. Being from a small town like Hodgenville, Kentucky, individual business was neighborhood gossip. When she was younger, as Daddy’s little girl her confidence was through the roof, so inherently some kids did not respond to her well- especially the other girls. Which then resulted in her being bullied, and feeling left out in group settings. As she got older, her confidence decreased, but attention from boys increased. She used the attention she received to fill the void in her heart from her childhood days. As she went to the bathroom to get ready, she noticed the two lines remained. For once in her life, she wished she hadn’t passed the test.
