When mentoring teachers, watch for the "effect" the teacher is having on the students, "Otherwise, observers come up with pleasant ways of telling teachers how to 'teach like me'. . . ." (Hattie, 2012, p.138).

What kind of teachers do students want and need?

  • patient and perservering
  • challenging
  • providing variety of learning methods
  • empathetic to student limitation
  • cultivates thinking within students
  • observant assessors of learning
