ObituarySelma Launa Worthington was the first child born to Lizzie and Louis Worthington of Farmville,North Carolina on January 9, 1938. She was the oldest of four children, Betty Jean Anderson, Jacalyn Houston and is preceded in death by her parents and her only brother, Louis WorthingtonJr. Selma grew up and attended H. B. Suggs High School where she played basketball and enjoyedacademic studies. She sang in the church choir growing up and had a lifelong love for music. Shemoved to Connecticut with her first husband, Jasper Lee Daughtry. Out of that union two childrenwere born. The first, a son, Nathaniel died at birth and the second is her oldest of five daughters,Cassandra (Casey). She later moved to Washington, DC after wedding John Henry Anderson (whomshe called the love of her life). To that union was born Valeria (deceased), Theresa, Tonya andKimberly. Selma also leaves to cherish her memory, one step son, David Shackleford of Farmville,North Carolina. Working for the federal government for over 20 years, upon retiring, Selma movedto Ocala, Florida seeking sun and a break from city life. She will be remembered as a fiery andcomplex, creative and vibrant woman of faith, who enjoyed decorating, sewing, cooking, reading,traveling and family. In addition to her two sisters and four living daughters, she leaves to mournher life well lived, one daughter-in-law, Madie Sue Shackleford (David) and four son-in-laws:Bruce H. Curry (Casey), Ralph Patterson, (Theresa), Felton Crawley (Tonya) and Ray Thorpe,(Kimberly). She is also survived by ten grandchildren: David Jr. and Kelvin Shackleford, AprilElayne Curry, Shannon Elyse Curry, Taylor Raye Curry, Malcolm John Wiley, Noah MohammedWiley, Jordan Kimberly Wiley, Mackenzie Rose Crawley and Matthew Louis Crawley. Selma issurvived by four great grandchildren: Makayla, Taniyah, Malcolm Wiley Jr. and NyLo Wiley and ahost of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
