2024 ANNUAL REPORT 1AS THE SCHOOL embarks on its next 50 years, the profound generational impact of its legacy becomes unmistakably clear.  e roots that were put down by our founders are deeply entrenched in the site and sensibilities of the school. As we grow, we remain a warm, connected community that values a balanced approach to education. An emblematic project recently emerged from within our community in the form of the planting of a large stand of mature sugar maple trees on our back property this fall.  is came as the result of an inspired and generous donation to the school to allow for a maple syrup program right outside our back door.  is wonderful endeavor, with an associated “Sugar Shack” to come, will be woven into our outdoor education program and provide yet another unique opportunity to inspire young learners at  e Country Day School! We continue to nurture the unique opportunities that our roots provide—like the glorious provision of a beautiful 100-acre campus—as well as engage passionately in developing further programs and resources that will allow the school to continue to thrive. To all our generous community members, thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to our school. Your commitment ensures the legacy of connectedness and care at CDS continues to thrive.JOHN LIGGETTHead of SchoolMessage from the Head of SchoolPlanting Trees for the Next Generation Twenty-four mature sugar maple trees were planted on our back property this fall.

2 THE COUNTRY DAY SCHOOLI would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our dedicated volunteer directors, whose time, talent and generosity help transform our visionary projects into reality for our students. I would also like to thank departing Board members Spencer Lavis and Karen Adams for their service. Karen’s leadership, particularly during the Building Magic campaign, has le a lasting impact on CDS. Additionally, I am delighted to welcome our new Board members Sandra De Carolis and Jeff Hershberg. On behalf of the entire Board, I wish to express my heartfelt thanks to our Head of School, John Liggett, his outstanding Leadership Team, and our extraordinary faculty and staff . Your passion and tireless eff orts ensure that CDS remains a place where students are not only prepared for the future, but inspired to lead it.Here’s to another year of dreaming big and achieving together.TINA MITHRACDS Parent ’26 & ’28Chair, Board of DirectorsAS I WRITE THIS inaugural message as Chair of the Board, I am honored to refl ect on a year of exceptional achievements and shared dedication at  e Country Day School.  is past year marked a pivotal moment in our history, as we celebrated the culmination of the Building Magic campaign, which raised an extraordinary $8.4 million to transform the Junior School.  e grand opening last September was a moment of pride for our community, showcasing our collective resilience and commitment to fostering an inspiring learning environment.  e momentum continued throughout the 2023–2024 academic year, with record-breaking enrollment and unprecedented interest across all grades, particularly our entry points in Junior Kindergarten, Grade 4, Grade 7, and Grade 9. With 810 students, our enrollment reached an all-time high, refl ecting the strength of our reputation and the growing demand for high-quality education with balance that CDS off ers. I am pleased to report that CDS continues to remain on solid footing across all areas—academics, governance, fi nancial stability, and risk management.  ese strengths are a testament to the collective eff ort and dedication of our community, as we continue to build on the four pillars of our long-range plan. Looking ahead, we are excited to embark on the next chapter of our campus evolution. While past campaigns have transformed key parts of our infrastructure, our Cyclone Dome, now 13 years old, is nearing the end of its lifespan.  anks to the generosity of a number of CDS families, Head of School John Liggett announced the launch of the Dream Together campaign at the 48th CDS Auction in June.  is campaign will fund a permanent fi eldhouse—an ambitious and transformative addition to our facilities. We invite everyone in our community to dream with us and support this exciting initiative. Message from the Chair of the BoardA Year of Growth and Gratitude

12 THE COUNTRY DAY SCHOOLin the Endowment Fund, and $3.9 million in the Operating Fund.  e Junior School loan was reduced to $2.4 million, right on schedule.  e Endowment Fund increased 7.5% from the prior year. Most notably, total revenue (including donations) over expenses for the year was $5.9 million. Driving this positive performance was $6.3 million in net fundraising revenue propelled by the opening of our Junior School building and the early launch of our new Dream Together Campaign. An extraordinary expense this year relates to the municipal works along Duff erin Street.  e school’s share of the sewer and water-main construction totaled $1.2 million with an additional $500,000 expected for 2024/25.  is was an eagerly anticipated project which vitally connects the school’s water and sewage to the municipal systems.  e investment in this connection not only signifi cantly reduces the risks associated with being on well water and a septic system, but will also reduce ongoing operating costs. I would like to thank the members of the Finance and Investment Committee for their considerable dedication and diligence: Luis Chacin, Basheer Khan, Tina Mithra, and David Reid. Your work and oversight help enablethe CDS community to continue growing and developing as it has since 1972.GLEN WAYCDS Parent ’28 & ’30Chair, Finance & Investment CommitteeAFTER TURNING THE corner on the fi rst 50 years of operations,  e Country Day School is positioned as well as it has ever been. Following the successful build and opening of the Junior School, the CDS campus’ most recent transformation is a huge win for our entire community.  is past year also witnessed the school faculty, administration and Board complete an accreditation facilitated by the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS). CDS excelled in all areas. Moreover, CDS continues to help set the standard for Canadian independent school excellence. Of note, the CAIS report commended the school for our class-leading risk management work.  ese results illustrate the payoff for the hard work that has been invested over the last number of years. Underpinning an ability to provide world-class facilities and best-in-the business Education with Balance, is an enthused community and rock-solid fi nancial position. On both of these metrics, we have reason to be positive and optimistic. School enrollment has reached yet another record high with over 800 students walking through the CDS doors each day. Financially speaking, as the remainder of this report will highlight,  e Country Day School has maneuvered itself into an enviable position. As a not-for-profi t corporation, the school aims to set a multi-year, break-even operating budget using tuition to cover all operating costs. For the year ended June 30th, 2024, the school showed a planned defi cit from school operations of $1.8 million.  e school chose to utilize interest earned from operating cash and cash reserves to fund operating expenses, rather than a further increase in tuition fees. Overall, the school’s fi nancial situation remains strong with fund balances now reaching $59.6 million, consisting of $46.0 million in the Capital Fund, $9.7 million Financial Report From Strength to Strength
