Your support helped ensure the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra weathered the storm that was 2020. As we were finalizing plans for our 2020 festival, we were excited about the unique, collaborative and fun programming we had in store. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had other plans. As the arts community reeled with the impact of a global pandemic, your generosity helped the CCO to find solid ground as we planned for the future. Thank you for standing by us through what was certainly the most difficult challenge this organization has ever faced. Your unwavering support helped us to not only make it through the early part of 2020, but enabled us to create a year of socially-distanced, safe and collaborative programs that kept the CCO and Summermusik present in Greater Cincinnati and beyond.Without you - subscribers, donors, volunteers, Board members, supporters, patrons and friends - the successes detailed in the following pages would not have been possible. We are proud to be one of the first orchestras in the country who was able to bring live music back to our communities with outdoor and pop-up performances all around the Tri-State. From Gorman Heritage Farms to Cincinnati Observatory to the Cincinnati Zoo to SPCA, our musicians enlivened spaces with music throughout 2020.During August, we presented a highly successful online version of our Summermusik festival. Our eFestival, including over 30 event and musician videos, has received over 5,700 views to date from around the world. We have been humbled by the responses we have received from our CCO family members thanking us for presenting “out-of-the-auditorium thinking,” and we look forward to continuing to do that as we look to 2021 and beyond.Beyond the stage, your generosity throughout the year enables the CCO to continue making music accessible to all members of our community. In 2020, CCO musicians took music into the community through programs ranging from performing for adoptable pets at SPCA, to enlivening the steps of Cincinnati Art Museum’s new Art Climb, to bringing together music and visual arts with Cedric Michael Cox for The Well’s virtual Camp cARTwheel.Thank you to our donors – especially those who stood by us in 2020 – for continuing to believe in the CCO and recognizing the value of affordable cultural and musical experiences to our community. We look forward to bringing you another incredible summer festival this August. Because of you we were able to build a critical financial reserve as we move into a still uncertain 2021.Thank you for continuing to believe in the impact we have in our community.Stay safe and we look forward to bringing you our engaging and impactful musical programs soon!LeAnne Anklan Terri R. We accomplish this through a variety of different ways from year to year: from attendance at open rehearsals, one-on-one and group musical instruction, participation in question and answer sessions with our performers and music director, hands-on instrument displays, complimentary event tickets, masterclasses, career chats and side-by-side musical performances.(photo bottom left), The Well/Mindful Music Moments, Cincinnati Art Museum and MYCincinnati, with whom the CCO created play-along videos for students in April. We believe music education is important for the musically curious of all ages. That is why we include fun and interesting facts in our concerts, whether during our pre-concert Prelude Talks, in music director or musician curator comments delivered from the stage, or by having our audience members meet the musicians at our events. The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra has an ongoing collaboration with Music for Youth in Cincinnati (MYCincinnati), an instrumental classical music program for children ages 7-13 located in East Price Hill. Recognizing that MYCincinnati primarily offers large group instruction and performances, the CCO enhances the program by providing individual and small group instruction, giving students a chance to interact with a working professional musician as teacher and mentor. Violist Wendy VanderMolen works with MYCincinnati students for over 10 hours each week (lesson photo above). In February, before the pandemic hit, CCO second hornist Brooke Ten Napel and hornist Jessica Pinkham performed in the Cincinnati Art Museum’s contemporary gallery for Connect/Sensory Saturday with the Art Museum. Their program, performed alongside works in the gallery, also tied to several hands-on, family friendly activities happening in the space (photo top left). In March, the CCO shifted its focus to virtual and socailly-distanced in-person programming. This included partnerships with Madcap Puppets at Westwood Town Hall, Cincinnati Zoo, Cincinnati Observatory, Gorman Heritage FarmsCOLLABORATED AND PARTNERED WITHSUMMERMUSIK eFESTIVAL 2020AUDIENCE QUOTES“The eFestival was a great idea and we didn’t miss a program. We / ,enjoyed them all.”“We just couldn’t bear to leave CCO following tonight’s wonderfulPyramid Hill concert so we watched all of the wonderful visits at homewith the musicians. Congratulations on the fabulous ‘against all odds’Summermusik 2020! We appreciated the creativity, quality anddiversity of performances, the enthusiasm of [Eckart’s] introductionsand the “visits” to so many wonderful locations.”“Thanks, musicians and sta, for out-of-the-auditorium thinking!”
