DEAR FRIENDS OF THE CCO 2016 was filled with excitement as we enjoyed fantastic performances brought music education into our communities and welcomed our fifth music director Eckart Preu It would not have been possible without the help of so many of you our fans friends subscribers attendees volunteers staff Board members and supporters After our 2015 inaugural year for the Summermusik festival led by Kelly Kuo we welcomed the other four music director candidates to Cincinnati Daniel Meyer Chris Zimmerman Sarah Ioannides and Eckart Preu pulled out all the stops to create inventive engaging programs where audiences thronged by the hundreds to SCPA Enquirer The Orchestra was fortunate to enlist the services of Director of Artistic Planning Peter Landgren and Artistic Advisor Isaac Selya to help our music director candidates to create a multi dimensional festival with programs ranging from Smokey Robinson to Rossini We continued our great tradition of collaboration by sharing the stage with several organizations in 2016 These included an on stage collaboration with CCM Modern Dance a world premiere visual work by NKU visual artist Brad McCombs in partnership with Cincinnati Art Museum a free community performance with our friends at MYCincinnati youth orchestra an unforgettable program with Elementz dancers and rappers and a newly staged production with our longtime friends and collaborators Madcap Puppets and Xavier University for Amahl the Night Visitors in December Thank you as well to our donors both first time and long time for believing in the CCO and the important role we play in our community We would also like to extend special thanks to our 2016 Board of Trustees for their vision and leadership over the past year We simply could not bring this valuable musical and educational programming to Greater Cincinnati without your loyalty and support Thank you We are thrilled to usher in TheEckartEra in 2017 as we welcome Music Director Eckart Preu to the Queen City With Eckart s creativity and vision as well as new venues musical variety and outstanding artists 2017 promises to be another spectacular year for the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra See you in August LeAnne Anklan Wesley H Needham General Manager CCO Board President

T H E C I N C I N NAT I C H A M B E R O RC H E S T R A B E L I E V E S I N taking a leading role in exposing children of all ages to the art of music We believe that as arts education diminishes in the school system it is increasingly important for performing arts organizations to step forward and mold the next generation of musicians and music lovers We accomplish this through attendance at open rehearsals participation in question and answer sessions with our performers and music director private one on one music instruction complimentary performance tickets and side by side musical performances The Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra has an ongoing collaboration with Music for Youth in Cincinnati MYCincinnati an instrumental classical music program for children ages 7 13 located in East Price Hill Recognizing that MYCincinnati primarily offers group instruction and performances the CCO saw the opportunity to enhance this program by providing individual instruction giving students the chance to interact one on one with a working professional musician as teacher and mentor CCO members visit MYCincinnati for several hours each week In June the CCO strings performed a side by side concert with MYCincinnati as part of the Blue Ash Concert Series above During the summer festival our guest artists and conductors also led masterclasses across the Tri State including Joshua Roman and Eckart Preu at the Cincinnati School for Creative Performing Arts and Joshua Roman at Northern Kentucky University right We believe music education is important for the musically curious of all ages That is why we include fun and interesting facts in our concerts whether that is through our pre concert Prelude Talks music director comments delivered from the stage or a chance for audience members to meet the musicians following each performance
