Welcome to the 43rd annual Marquette May Merriment – Rooted in Tradition!Dear Friends of Marquee Academy,Welcome to MMM43, a celebraon of the rich history of Marquee tradions deeply rooted in us all.The mission is evident this year: to deeply honor and pay tribute to what has brought us to this point. Let's reect on our cherished memories and dedicate this year to marching forward with resilience like those who have gone before us—all in the spirit of our beloved Marquee, our blue and gold.Let's take a moment to remember what has called us all to carry on the long-standing Marquee tradions: our faith, an immensely rooted foundaon, and our love for this school and our cherished MA family.Tradions at Marquee Academy are more than mere ceremonies; they are the essence of who we are. Whether Marquee has been a generaonal and pivotal part of your story or you're new here, this makes Marquee unique. You are welcome, with open arms, to share moments of the past and join our commitment to the future.Tradions include Senior Retreat, Religion with Monsignor Halfacre, Interim, Friday night football games, and prayer meengs at the groo post-game, to name a few. We all have forever-sketched memories that have embedded a profound sense of belonging among our MA family. In a rapidly changing world, these pracces ground us all and the next generaon, inslling strong core values, a moral compass, and faith to guide us all for a lifeme.

Yet, embracing our tradions does not mean we remain stagnant. We have a vital opportunity to marry our cher-ished past with the dynamic needs of the present and future. We are devoted to nurturing an environment that balances reverence for our heritage with the necessary innovaon in teaching methods and curriculum. Our pur-suit of excellence in educaon requires adapng and preparing our students to thrive academically and spiritually; it is our turn to carry the torch and keep these cherished tradions and long-standing missions alive. Your unwavering support is crucial to this mission. With your generous contribuons, we can enhance our educa-onal programs, expand our extracurricular oerings, and maintain our facilies, ensuring every student who walks through our doors at Marquee has the tools and resources they need to succeed. Together, we can culvate an atmosphere where faith and knowledge ourish, providing our students the best possible opportunies to grow into compassionate and capable leaders and thrive spiritually, personally, and academically. As we look to the future, let us remember the legacy that took generaons to build and the one we connue building with homage to those before us.Each student who graduates from Marquee Academy carries the values and lessons inslled here, becoming am-bassadors of our tradion in their families and communies. Message from our Principal, Brooke RickDear Friends of Marquee Academy, This year, we gather under the inspiring theme, “Rooted in Tradion,” honoring the legacy, faith, and commu-nity that have shaped our school for generaons. "Rooted in Tradion" reminds us that everything we do here—every lesson taught, every prayer spoken, every moment shared—is grounded in a rich legacy of Catholic educaon. From our earliest days, our school has been a place where academic excellence and spiritual formaon go hand in hand, where generaons of students have grown in wisdom, strength, and virtue. Our roots run deep. They are found in the dedica-on of our teachers, sta, and administraon; the generosity of our families, friends, and benefactors; the support of our parishes; and above all, in the teachings of Christ. Just like any strong tree, those roots allow us to grow—stretching outward in service, compassion, and hope. Tonight is about celebraon, but also about sup-port—support for our mission, our students, and the future we’re building together. We are so grateful for your pres-ence, your generosity, and your faith in what we do. With hearts full of gratude, we thank you for joining us for an evening that not only celebrates our past but also nurtures the promise of our future. Welcome to May Merriment XLIII - Rooted in Tradion. An event of this magnitude can only happen with the dedicaon and leadership of our chairpersons and their support sta. Our chairpersons – Anthony and Amanda Andreoni, Leon and Marlene Backos, and Casey and Megan Rick, have our deepest gratude for their reless eorts in producing this tremendous event. Once again, our Ad-vancement Oce sta: Julie Verona, Danielle Entwistle, and Diane Whalen have gone above and beyond and should be applauded for their creavity and support to our many com-miees. In addion, I would like to personally thank all of the hosts and aendees of our various gi-gathering pares for your me and generosity, and to those volunteers who have helped not only tonight, but throughout the enre year. We are most appreciave of your me, talent and eort. As you browse through this year’s catalog, you will nd numer-ous items that have been donated or purchased by various individuals or groups. As you view the many gis, please consider the many merchants who have so generously made these gis available to make our aucon possible. Thank you to our local merchants for their generous donaons and for their support of our eorts over the years. You are essen-al to our success. At this me, I would also like to acknowledge and thank the faculty, sta, and administraon of Marquee Academy for their dedicaon and commitment to Catholic educaon. I would also like to thank the Pastors and the Consultave Board for their connued me, help, support, and dedicaon to the success of Marquee Academy. On behalf of the students, administraon, faculty, sta, Pastors and Consultave Boards, I would like to thank all of you who have made this event possible. The goal of the Academy is to connue to make a dierence in the lives of our students. With the help from supporters such as you, we will connue to move forward in our mission of provid-ing high quality Catholic educaon for future generaons of Crusaders and Knights. Through your generosity, now more than ever, you can help to ensure that every student at Mar-quee Academy connues to grow spiritually, emoonally, and academically.May God bless you and your families. FaithAs I look back at my me at Marquee, I think of how blessed I was to be led in the faith by good, faithful, and holy priests. They were there every day, and when they asked "how are you doing?" they actually cared about the answer. I would not be a priest without their example paired with our religion teachers bringing us to adore our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.Father Jacob Marni, Class of 2014FamilyThe tradion of Marquee is deeply rooted into our family tree! Many of my family members have aended Marquee with their future spouse. To name a few, my grandparents, John and Marilyn Kuhn, my parents, Tom and Chris Miller, my husband, Johnny and I, as well as our son, Drew and his wife Kendall, are all blessed to be Marquee Alumni. We are grateful to Marquee for providing us with a solid foundaon that helped our family grow. Kae Nelson, Class of 1996ServiceAs we are fortunate to have many birthdays, it is also good for us to have a purpose in life. I feel blessed that I can volunteer and be involved with students and families at Marquee Academy all these years.Jo Parro, Class of 1959 Career/BusinessA Catholic educaon at Marquee taught me how to treat people, and how important ethics and honesty are in life. Marquee has helped shape my approach to decision making, leadership, and interacons with customers in our family business of 62 years at Handy Foods. Mike McGrogan, Class of 1981 FaithThe faith community Marquee has to oer is unparalleled. I met priests that guided me through challenging mes and encountered great friendships that ourished along the way. Foreign Exchange student, Yihyang (John) Shen, Class of 2020Work Ethic Almost 44 years have gone by since I arrived as a 13-year-old freshman at Marquee High School. On day one, football was number one and academics were number two. But I soon learned that intelligence was a valued commodity, being smart was cool. That is not to say I was either smart or cool, but to the people I met both academics and athlecs were important. Seng challenging goals and working hard to achieve those goals were values we shared. What talent I possessed was valued by my teachers, coaches, and classmates. As me passed, condence grew along with ability. I know that my me at Marquee and the Marquee family I met and cherish to this day, prepared me to connue to challenge myself to make the most of my abilies and hopefully to make a contribuon to Marquee and our community as a whole. Judge Joe Heel, Class of 1985Tradion plays a signicant role in shaping a person as they transion into adulthood by providing a framework of values, rituals, and pracces that guide behavior and decision-making. Here's what some Marquee alum had to say:
