Dear Parents, Welcome to Golf Maine Park District's Leisure Summer Camp! Our staff is lookingforward to providing an active and rewarding camp for your child. This handbook wasdeveloped to assist you in preparing your child for camp. Please read the manualthoroughly and keep it in a convenient location so you can refer to it. The informationin it is important and will help you help our staff ensure your child has a well-roundedcamp experience. WELCOME TO GOLF MAINE PARK DISTRICT’SAll Camp activities are under the administration of the park district's full-time supervisor Anthony Silmon. On-site supervisionresponsibility will be taken care of our part time staff counselors. 1/8 ratio for staff/camper. Campers will be divided by grade(no more than 16 campers to a group). All GMPD staff are CPR/AED certified. STAFFCOMMUNICATIONCommunication is a very important key to the success of camp. All of us, parents, counselors, and coordinatorsare working together to ensure that each child has a positive experience at camp. Weekly Camp Schedule :we utilize the following communication methods: Parents receive a follow up report/schedule on every Friday, for all the following weeks activities. Please ask astaff member if you have any questions.Important Notes: Any important information will be distributed either electronically or to each camper in paper format for him/herto take home. Evaluations: You will receive an evaluation of Summer Camp at the end of the summer. We look forward to andappreciate all input given to us to help improve our program's quality. Please do not feel that youmust wait to give suggestions, you are always free to communicate with our staff. Phones: You may contact the camp phone at any time. (773-220-2316)ARRIVAL PROCEDUREWhen arriving at camp each day, please walk your child into the building. Sign him/her in on the sign-in sheet andnotify the counselor of your arrival. Coming into the facility allows for communication between parents and staffto ensure the safety of your child. Be sure to park in designated parking spaces in parking lots. PICK-UP PROCEDUREParents and guardians must come into the facility to pick up children. For your child’s protection, he / she must be signedout each day when you pick them up (unless you have authorized them to walk or ride their bikes home). Children willonly be released to you or other authorized persons designated by you on the registration form. Changes to youremergency / pick-up list must be done in person and or in writing - VERBAL CHANGES ARE NOT PERMITED. Authorizedpersons picking up children that are not recognized by us will be asked to show a photo identification. LATE PICK-UPParents are to pick up their child at 4PM or 5PM, depending on the time slot you have chosen. There will be a 10 minutegrace period, If late, you will be charged a late fee of $25.00. This fee must be paid by the next Camp Day.If You are responsible for picking up your child in the 4PM time frame and fail to do so you are responsible for payingeither a fine of $25 or can switch to the longer time slot and pay the difference. This payment will be due on the nextCamp Day. Summer Leisure Camp 2025!
DRESSING & WHAT TO BRING FOR CAMPChildren get a camp shirt that they need to wear every TUESDAY and THURSDAY. They will also receive a campbag at the start of camp. Please make sure your child brings swim wear, towel, spray on sunscreen preferred(staff will not apply sunscreen) , additional clothing in case of emergency. Children Spend most of their timeoutside and active so please dress your child appropriately. We ask that children wear gym/tennis shoes andclothes that can get messy. All participants must bring a lunch/snack/drink with them Monday-Thursday. Lunches will be kept in a refrigerator. The parkdistrict will serve lunch/snack/drink on Fridays. Lunch will consist of pizza/hotdogs/hamburgers/peanut butter jellysandwiches on select weeks. There is also a vending machine for additional purchase of drinks and snacks.LUNCHSWIM DAYSOnce a week every TUESDAY and THURSDAY our camp will travel to Flick Pool. The buses will leaveDee Park at 9:45 AM Sharp. If you do not drop your child off before the bus leaves, you will beresponsible for driving him/her to Flick Pool. See address down below. Camp will be there from10AM - 12:45PM. *Will not swim WEEK 1 and WEEK 11 as the pool won’t be open.*MEDICAL EMERGENCIESPark District staff WILL NOT ADMINISTER MEDICATIONS of any kind to your child, without the proper paperwork filledout. In the event of an accident/minor injury, our staff will administer basic first aid. If the injury requires more thanbasic first aid, the following steps will be taken:A.) 911 will be called and the injured child will be transported by paramedics to the closest hospital.B.) Contact parent or guardian. If unavailable, then:C.) Contact persons listed on the Emergency List.**You are responsible for all medical charges incurred. Authorization for program staff to secure emergency medicalcare for your child and your commitment for payment thereof is part of your registration agreement.**ILLNESSESIt is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child’s health is adequate for his / her participation in the program. A child whoshows signs of illness should be kept home for his / her own welfare as well as for the protection of the other children. Golf Mainestaff has the authority to refuse any child who shows signs of illness. In such cases, our staff’s judgment is final. Please keep yourchild home if there is a sign of any of the following symptoms: A fever during the previous 24 hours, rash eye, ear, or nasal discharge, diarrhea any symptoms of a possible communicabledisease , vomiting If a child becomes ill while at Camp or Child Care, the parent will be promptly notified and asked to pick-up their child immediately.If they cannot pick-up their child, someone from the emergency list will be contacted. If your child is exposed to a communicabledisease, you MUST notify us immediately so that the other parents can be notified. If your child has a communicable disease, he /she will need to bring a note from the doctor stating that it is safe to return to camp.
In keeping with our camp goals, we encourage fun for all participants. However, certain rules are necessary to ensureeveryone's safety and enjoyment. Participants Shall:Show respect to all participants and staff.Refrain from using foul / abusive language.Refrain from causing verbal or physical harm to other participants or staff.Show respect for equipment, supplies, and facilities.Our rules for behavior are simple. A firm, caring, positive approach will be used regarding discipline - our purpose is to helpa child develop self-control; to learn to assume responsibility for his / her actions; and to learn that there areconsequences for their actions. Only positive statements and reinforcement are used to redirect negative behavior.The Park District reserves the right to dismiss a participant from the program at any time if his / her behavior isdetrimental to others.EMERGENCY CONTACTSParents are required to provide emergency contacts. These are listed on your child's Authorization Form. EmergencyContacts will be contacted when we are unable to reach parents at the numbers provided. If there are any changes oradditions to the emergency contacts, please submit them verbally and in writing to a staff member. TOYS FROM HOMELOST AND FOUNDThe lost and found area is located in the main office at Dee Park. The Park District is notresponsible for lost or stolen items. Please label all personal items that are brought to camp.DISCIPLINE POLICYChildren are allowed to bring personal items from home, we prefer if all personal items were labeled. Toys/Phones/Ipads are allowed but will be asked to be put away if not used appropriately. At Golf Maine Park District, we strive to meet the needs of all children in our programs. To do so, it becomes necessaryto set limitations and guidelines within which all campers can function. When rules are broken, it is essential to providesome form of consequence and understanding to prevent future problems. The overall safety and well-being of allchildren are always our highest concern. The following process will be used to resolve conflicts and redirect negativebehavior as situations arise.Level 1:The first incident of inappropriate behavior will be written up in the behavior log as is witnessed by our program staff. Thestaff member and child will go to the office to discuss what happened. Every effort will be made to help the child understandthe inappropriateness of his / her behavior. The child will then write down what he / she did and why it was wrong, then signit. Staff will notify/discuss the incident with the child’s parent.DISCIPLINE PROCEDURES
Level 2: The second incident of inappropriate behavior will be written up in the behavior log. The staff member and child will go to the office todiscuss what happened. Every effort will be made to help the child understand the inappropriateness of his / her behavior. The child will thenwrite down what he / she did and why it was wrong, then sign it. The child must then make a phone call to his / her parent explaining whatthey did and that they are now at Level 2 and if they are written up for a third incident, they will be sent home for the remainder of the week.During this phone call, our program staff will also discuss the incident with the parent.Level 3:For the third incident of inappropriate behavior, the parent will be called to pick-up the child and the child may not attend the program for theremainder of the week.Expulsion from the Program If Levels 1, 2 and 3 have not resulted in appropriate behavior, the child’s participation inthe park district program will be terminated.Serious Conduct Violations / Immediate Expulsion The Park District reserves the right to skip any or all levels aboveand immediately expel a child from the program if the misbehavior is of a serious nature. Disrespect of others andjeopardizing safety will not be tolerated.PHOTO POLICYPhotographs and videos are periodically taken of participants while they are engaged in one of our summer campactivities. Please be aware that these photos may appear on social media, or our Park DIstrict website. If you do notwish to have your child identified in a photograph, please put your request in to anthony@gmpd.org WHAT IS LEISURE CAMP?Our leisure camp will consist of our student center, gaming zone, gym area, board game area, and our water spray park.Participants in this program will also be going swimming every Wednesday at Flick Pool. Participants in this program willbe able to go different areas of their choosing. Staff members will monitor all areas and will have the final say on whatareas will be available during this time. Staff members will intervene if participants are spending too much time in oneparticular area. There will be a time limit in certain areas of this camp. STUDENT CENTERThis area will have individual pod areas where participants can relax on their own and read a book or magazine.We also provide computers and a television to watch movies. There is also an interactive board where theparticipants can play interactive games. There are also desks where participants can do arts and crafts. Lastly,we have a comfortable couch where participants can relax.GAMING ZONEThis area contains two PlayStation 5’s, and two Nintendo Switch, air Hokey Table, and an Electronic Game Board.This area provides gaming chairs, as well as a comfortable couch. BOARD GAMESThis area will be full of board games, interactive games, and card games for participants to play. WATER SPRAY PARK & SWIMMINGParticipants will have access to our water spray park every day during this camp. They will also go swimming everyTuesday and Thursday at Flick Pool. This area will be used for sports activities. Sports equipment will be put out during these camps. We will havecontests where participants can win prizes.GYM
