 UNIV 100 (First-Year Seminar) is a 3 credit-hour, full semester course designed to help rst-year UL Lafayee students transion successfully from high school to university life and academic work. This course is mandatory for graduaon, your student is likely already registered in a UNIV 100 secon. The course has two components: (1) Cajun Connecon, Thursday, August 17, 2017, which is an extended introducon to UL Lafayee, to the campus community, and to University-level work and (2) the First-Year Seminar, which then connues for the rest of the semester. In addion to introducing your student to UL Lafayee’s campus and tradions, Cajun Connec-on provides your student with many opportunies to get involved in campus acvies and to engage with others in the Ragin’ Cajun community with similar interests. Cajun Connecon is ocially the rst day of class for freshman; therefore, students must aend as if aending any other class. Aendance from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on August 17, 2017 is mandatory. This means arriving on me, and being fully prepared with a bookbag, wring utensils, and a notebook. As it will be August in Louisiana, we also suggest auxiliary items such as an umbrella and a water bole. For more informaon on what to bring, see below.  -in the Student Union Courtyard where students will receive a t-shirt, academic year planner, and a Cajun Connecon packet. Students will be able to conrm their Cajun Connecon classroom locaon at check-in. Students will be receiving an email about Cajun Connecon on Monday, August 7, to their UL email, detailing instrucons on how to locate their Cajun Connecon classroom.  - Every incoming freshman should have their student I.D. on them at all mes. - All students should arrive in class ready with necessary supplies such as wring utensils and paper. - Certain porons of Cajun Connecon will be outside so it is important to come prepared for   (August in Louisiana). This includes comfortable shoes to walk in. - A water bole is a great idea, as well as sun screen, sun glasses, some sort of hat, and an umbrella. - As a part of Cajun Connecon, your student will have the opportunity to donate your pocket change to the Make-a-Wish Foundaon, an organizaon that grants wishes to kids with life-threatening medical condions. Consider asking them to bring a pocket of coins to throw into the donaon boat.  Follow OFYE on Social Media Office of First-Year Experience 106 Lee Hall 230 Hebrard Blvd. 337-482-6599 Oce of First-Year Experience “”   Oce of First-Year Experience Lee Hall, Rm 106 230 Hebrard Blvd. 337-482-6599 (phone) Oce Website ofye@louisiana.edu OFYE Facebook Page Academic Student Success Lee Hall, Rm 115 230 Hebrard Blvd. 337-482-6818 Oce Website asc@louisiana.edu

Commuter students will park at Cajun Field and be bussed to campus. Busses will begin service at 7:00 a.m. and will run about every 20 minutes. As we expect to transport roughly 1,500 commuter students, there will inevitably be some extent of wait me. Class aendance is taken promptly at but we encourage students to arrive early! Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. because students may need me to nd their classroom. On-campus parking is also available to commuter students in the Girard Park Circle Parking Garage. Garage rates consist of $5.00 for the rst two hours, then S1.00 for each addional hour. Lunch will be provided to all students during Cajun Connecon. For dinner and weekend meals during Freshman Week, students have access to campus dining opons, as well as o campus opons such as Old Tyme Grocery, Bisbano’s Pizza, The Saint Street Inn, Cajun Commander Café, Piccadilly Cafeteria, and local fast food. Meal plan swipes for residenal students will begin for dinner on Wednesday, August 16th which is the night before Cajun Connecon. Students may eat in the student union using cash or meal plan declining balance points before meal swipes are turned on. Free food will also be available at various events during freshmen week. Students should wait unl the rst week of classes to buy books—professors will go over the syllabus on the rst day of class to cover textbook informaon. It is easy to lose money when buying books prior to the rst day of class because not all textbooks are required or specied on the syllabus. Some ways to save money include renng textbooks from the Ragin’ Cajuns Store on campus, ordering books online, buying them used, or somemes checking-out textbooks (for a limited me) from the campus library.
