The Hills and Austral brands have a minimum extension length of 2m.Number of Lines Required The clotheslines range from 5 to 7 lines depending on the manufacture. Determining the Clothes Hoist Budget As Clothes Hoists are one of the most used appliances in the home and can last up to 15 years or more. It’s, advisable to consider this when working out your budget and before making a buying decision. We always recommend buying the best quality product your budget allows and the largest one which will suit your home. Because it’s better not to use all the lines than one day wishing you had more lines.Product Warranty All products come with a manufacturer’s warranty, the length of time varies based on the brand and all comply with the Australian consumer laws. A product warranty will cover plastic components and cord for up to 12 months only, with the balance of the product being covered for longer.1324Australia’s #1TheClotheslineStore.com.au1300 509 564

Recommended Sizes & ClearancesRetractable clotheslines are measured based on the number of lines or the maximum length they extend. The popular brands offer options of 4 to 6 line with extension lengths up to a massive 10m.The recommended installation height is approximately 50 to 75mm above the persons head who will be using it most. This is a standard dimension, and every manufacture has their own recommended height listed in their installation manual. The clearance around the clothesline can vary based on the brand, which can start from 1.5m each side of the line and away from fences/sheds and other items which could obstruct the clothesline. The extended length referred to by manufactures is the distance the clothesline cord can be pulled out from the body, refer the diagram below.Australia’s #1TheClotheslineStore.com.au1300 509 564

Retracting ClotheslinesRetracting clotheslines are a unique styled clothesline and come with a number of line options, extension lengths, colours and a multitude of installation options.Because of the nature of these lines and their extension lengths, the line can and will sag when clothes are placed on them. This is because of physics and not avoidable regardless of the brand. The best practice for using these types of lines is to place all the heavy items at the ends closest to the wall or post and the lighter products in the middle. The longer the line is extended the more the line will sag.Read MoreBrand Name ColoursCabinet Width (mm)Max Span (m)Min Span (m)No LinesHanging Area (m)Suits PeopleHills 5 Line Retracting 1 690 6.75 2 5 33 3 - 4Hills 7 Line Retracting 1 940 6.75 2 7 47 4 - 6Austral Retractaway 40 2 800 8 2 5 40 3 - 5Austral Retractaway 50 2 800 10 2 5 50 4 - 8Daytek 6 Line 1 896 6.5 0 6 33 3 - 4Brabantia Indoor Retractable 1 483 4.4 0 5 22 N/AAustralia’s #1TheClotheslineStore.com.au1300 509 564

Frequently Ask QuestionsQ: Are the clotheslines easy to install?A: This depends on the skill set of the installer, all products come with instructions. There is a level of skill required, we recommend consulting an expert or handyman if you are not sure.Q: How far can the line be extended, and it there a minimum amount it can be extended?A: All brands have an adjustable length. The extended length provided by the manufacture is the up to length which means you can extend the line up to this dimension. Also The Hills product has a minimum extended length of 4m.Q: Can the lines be locked in place when they are extended and will they sag?A: Yes they are locked in place by a locking mechanism on the body to hold the cord taught. The lines will sag when weight is placed on them, the amount of sag will depend on the extended length and the amount of washing placed on them.Q: How high should a clothesline be installed and how much space should you have around ?A: The recommended installation height is 50mm to 100mm above the head of the person using it the most with the recommended space being at least 1.5m around the clothesline. Q: Does The Clothesline Store deliver directly from its warehouse or its suppliers?A: We deliver directly from our warehouse to your door. The only exception is for our Made to Order Air Dry Clotheslines, which are shipped straight from our factory. We pride ourselves on no delays, no hassles, and no excuses!Q: What surfaces are not suitable for installation?A: We don't recommend installation on Hebbal walls, weatherboard walls, fences and cladded walls directly. On these types of walls, we recommend using a post kit solution. Wall & Fence Mounted InstallationThe most common installation type is a brick or concrete walls. These provide a quality anchor point for the clotheslines. However if your bricks or masonry wall is in poor condition a ground mount option may be a better solution. If you have a Hebbal, Cladding or Weatherboard wall we do not recommend this type of installation.A local handyman or builder may be able to assist you in fixing a clothesline to these types of surfaces, however we do not indorse this type of installation. Weather BoardIf you have a fence, we do not recommend installingyour clothesline onto it. In these situations, we suggest using a ground mount kit as shown below, even if you have an existing clothesline on a fence. This is because the integrity of the fence may not be suitable to support the clothesline for the same number of years the clothesline will function.HebbalWall CladdingRecommended SurfacesFence MountingSurfaces Not RecommendedMetal Fenced Timber Fence Ground MountAustralia’s #1TheClotheslineStore.com.au1300 509 564
Ground Mounted InstallationThe ground mount kits connect to the clotheslines and allow them to be free standing instead of a wall mounted installation. The most common installation for the legs is to be concreted into soil or a grassed area. You can also install the clothesline on a concrete slab or path, for this there are two options available. One is to core drill the concrete and the other, a less expensive option is to plate mount the legs to the concrete. The only brands which provide base plate mounting options are Air Dry, Austral and Daytek.Core hole drilling is when the installer drills holes through your concrete and installs the legs into them. This is a more expensive option than the plated system. This is the only option available when installing a Hills product onto a concrete slab or path.
