We have faced a global pandemic, outcry for socialjustice, and an economic crisis. But through it all, we’vealso witnessed so much good. Communities supportinglocal businesses, nonprofits building partnerships tobetter coordinate services, and companies taking ahard look at their policies on not only business ethics, but diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Business Ethics Alliance made great strides inproviding business leaders and organizations withbusiness ethics education and workshops through theCOVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic brought manychallenges with it that impacted businesses, individuals, and families not just globally, but right here in theOmaha community. Many businesses struggled to keepup with the changing conditions of this globalpandemic. Some did not re-open, and while many did, those businesses are still struggling to recover fromthe impact COVID-19 had. The Business Ethics Allianceis fortunate to not only have remained fully operational, but to be able to celebrate successes during such atumultuous time. 2020 has brought about a recommitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as the call for a renewed focus on business ethicsin our communities nationwide. At the Business Ethics Alliance, our goal is to have a lasting impact on company culture. Cultureis the set of important understandings that employees of anorganization share in common. On behalf of the Business Ethics Alliance and more than 350trustees, we thank you for your continued support instrengthening the Alliance so that it can continue to buildOmaha’s future. H O W WE W O R KThe tone for an organization's culture and environment starts at the top.As a business leader, your decisions have an impact on your organization, its reputation, your employees, and the community. It is up to you to beresponsible and make decisions with ethics and integrity.Research has shown ethics education works and that educating employeeson ethics helps them to be more engaged in their work. The BusinessEthics Alliance plays a priming role in this, where early exposure to ourethics education can help prepare individuals to behave appropriatelyfurther down the road.We are gurus in ethics, business, and education. We do business ethicseducation based on sound academic research.B U S I N E S S E T H I C S A L L I A N C E 0 6EDUCATING BUSINESS LEADERSIDENTIFYING BLINDSPOTSAll organizations and people are susceptible to ethical blindspots. Thisterm refers to the psychological bias and limitations we have, whichprevent us from seeing flaws or inconsistencies in our moral judgments, actions, and social practices. These blindspots can get in the way of ourcommitment to do the right thing. It is not uncommon for people to notreflect carefully enough on their choices, which often leads to overlookingethical challenges that come with important decisions. In order to help others overcome this bias, which is sometimesunconscious, the Business Ethics Alliance offers a variety of workshopsand trainings. Contact us today for one of our specialty workshops or tobuild a custom training that suits your organization's needs. Some conversations can be difficult to have, but they are often necessaryin business and in other aspects of life. One of our goals is to the elevatethe Greater Omaha community through conversations about ethics. The Business Ethics Alliance gives you a time and a place to cometogether with others who value business ethics to share tips, lessonslearned, and best practices from the larger community. We create a space where it is safe to work through the harder ethical challenges you and your company may be facing with peers who can understand your situation.Let us help you bring your organization together by facilitating the tough, but needed, conversations to improve your business.PROMOTING CONVERSATIONS

I believe challenging and supporting local businessesto operate at their highest ethical levels is ameaningful way for me to give back to my hometown, which has been so good to me. I started as a solo practitioner in the field of familylaw almost 40 years ago. As the founding partner ofKoenig | Dunne, I later grew the firm with my lawpartners Angela Dunne and Angela Lennon, empowering people to put their lives back togetherafter their marriage has fallen apart. My personal philosophy on ethics is: get your ownvalues into your bones. Then, when looking far, wide, and high, check in with yourhead, heart, and gut. One of the things I appreciate most about the BusinessEthics Alliance is the continuous learning of the practicalapplication of ethics. I also love building relationshipswith others who want to challenge Omaha to be itsabsolute best.Currently, I am of counsel at Koenig | Dunne and alsoserve as an Executive Coach, where I have the pleasure ofcoaching each member of the Koenig | Dunne team. Theseskills have translated well to volunteering at the BusinessEthics Alliance, as they are a match for the organization'sneeds -- being on the stage for Ethics on Trial, speakingat luncheons, and facilitating their Mind Candy Dialogues.WHY I JOINEDTHE ALLIANCESusan Koenig:B U S I N E S S E T H I C S A L L I A N C E 0 7"Knowing I have committed tobeing a role model for ethicskeeps me vigilant in ethicalchoices I make every day."I first joined the Business EthicsAlliance when Dr. Beverly Kracherwas the Executive Director. Whenshe described the mission of theAlliance, it instantly resonatedwith me. For me, it was anopportunity to challenge ourcommunity to live the values itvoices.

How can I be successful as a business person while atthe same time conducting my business in an ethicalway? How can I impart to my employees theimportance of being ethical? That is why I gotinvolved in the Business Ethics Alliance. I saw theAlliance as an avenue to answering those questions.I founded Hayes & Associates primarily because I believeso strongly that all people, no matter the color of theirskin, should have the opportunity to succeed, and Iwanted to play a part in that dynamic. Service is a majorcomponent of how I live my life. Ethics also plays a vital role in my daily life. I always tryand think about the decisions I make in the context ofright and wrong. I challenge myself to think of theconsequences of my actions from an ethical standpoint.I view the Business Ethics Alliance a key cog in thefoundation of a great community like Omaha. I try toensure I am doing my part in executing the mission of theAlliance and to elevate the Omaha business community. WHY I JOINEDTHE ALLIANCEFrank Hayes:B U S I N E S S E T H I C S A L L I A N C E 0 8"The Alliance makes me a betterperson and sets our businessapart from those who do notunderstand the value that ethicsplays in a successful business."As a business owner, I believethere is a right way and awrong way to achievesuccess. Growing up on a farm in Mississippi, I have always hada strong work ethic. I attended Creighton University, where I received my bachelor’s degree in BusinessAdministration with a minor in Accounting. The Jesuiteducation I received while at Creighton University hada profound impact on how I view the world. I also havean enormous appreciation for the opportunities I havebeen afforded. I have always been intrigued by some age-oldquestions in business: Does the pursuit of profit trumpall else? Does the idea of right and wrong play in thebusiness world?
