March 1, 2024ד״פשת א-רדא א’’כ אשת יכ תשרפ HONEST REFLECTION 5:17 PMDear Parents,The tragic episode of making and worshiping an בהזה לגע ended with Moshe breaking the תוחול. He deemed Klal Yisrael unworthy of receiving the luchos and smashed them into fragments. While Moshe was still on the mountain, Hashem himself had told Moshe that Klal Yisrael had worshipped the eigel. Yet at that point, Moshe still took the luchos and began his descent. Apparently, knowing that Klal Yisrael had served the eigel wasn’t an impediment towards receiving the luchos. Otherwise, Moshe would have left them on the mountain. Why then, did Moshe break the luchos when he witnessed them serving the eigel? The Seforno writes that Moshe was aware that the people had sinned. However, he reasoned that as terrible as the aveira was, they would repent and recover when he brought the luchos. Perhaps they had sinned from momentary confusion or lack of direction since Moshe wasn’t with them. However, when Moshe approached the camp the possuk states: תולוחמה תאו לגעה תא אריו הנחמה לא השמ ברק רשאכ יהיו. As Moshe approached the camp, he saw the eigel and the dances.Moshe knew that all Klal Yisrael had made the calf and worshiped it. He was unaware that they proceeded to dance around it. Dancing around the eigel represented a different level of identification with the הריבע. They didn’t relate to the eigel as a shameful slip. It was a הליחתכל, and they were happy with their choice. At that point, Moshe realized that Klal Yisrael merely seeing the luchos would be insufficient. They were too far invested in their wrong path. They would not have even noticed Moshe carrying the luchos. He understood that the only way to bring Klal Yisrael to their senses was to smash the luchos in front of them. Then they would understand the extent of their betrayal and do Teshuvah. There is a profound lesson for us. Yes, we often slip up, but that in it of itself is not the end-all. It is the fact that instead of reflecting honestly on our wrongdoings when confronted by the truth we choose to instead dance – to justify and to delude ourselves that we have acted properly. Let us take stock and not be in need of the smashing of the luchos to jolt us from our lethargy and shatter our self-delusions. ! תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs●● March 2 - Motzei Shabbos - Torah Academy Auction(for ladies only)● Mar 4 - Williston Conferences● Mar 6 - Hamilton Conferences● Mar 11 - Preschool and 1G Conferences● Mar 15 - Long Friday dismissal, K-1pm, PreK, 1-8G, daycare - 2:20pm, 1-8B - 2:30● Mar 17 - Rebbeim meeting, 11:30 dismissal

All of the boys brought in a nosh and we had special treats for everyone. BH we are on schedule and learning so much, especially now, about ףסוי in םירצמ. ● 1B has been logging the weather each day as part of their unit on weather. Ms. Faherty takes the class outside to check whether it’s sunny, raining, snowing, or windy. They also make a note of the temperature. See pictures further in the Bulletin.● 1B read a book called Have You Filled A Bucket Today?, about how we can all be people who fill or deplete others’ buckets each day. By saying kind things, we can lift others and fill their buckets. Ms. Faherty gave each boy their own buckets to write their name on, then they each got a ball with a classmates name on it. The task was to write a nice note to the boy whose name was on the ball, and then deposit the note into that boy’s bucket. How nice it is to read something nice that someone else writes about us! See pictures further in the Bulletin.● Mazel tov to 5G on completing Parshas Bo! They celebrated with a siyum and each contributed a tasty treat and a creative poster that connected to the makkos● The students in grades 3-5 learned about various disabilities with Mrs. Reena Slovin through the Shiluv program offered by Gateways. 3G learned about blindness, 4th grade learned about physical disabilities and 5th grade learned about autism. All the students engaged in hands on activities that developed their appreciation for what the disability is and is not, and learned that a disability is just one way someone may be different from others, but it does not define the person. ● Mazal tov to Penina Sebbag (5G) on winning the STEM raffle for filling out the scavenger hunt during the STEM fair! ● The Mid winter learning program was once again BH a smashing success. More than 50% of the boys learned every day, many boys learned for hours! of their own time over vacation. The boys earned raffle tickets for the time they learned. Every boy that learned over vacation is a winner! Mazel Tov to the lucky raffle winners: Levi Ostashinsky (2B)- Artscroll Pocket Size Mikraos Gedolos, Yehuda Shanske (3B)- The ZStander Personalized Table Top Shtender and Zelig Bier (6B)- The Mystery Prize!! ( Popcorn Machine). Every boy that learned every day received the new Torah Academy Special Edition Flat magnetic Flashlight!● In learning about the Vikings, 4G made Viking brooches. Often rather large, they were used as clothes fasteners by both men and women, with men wearing one to pin his cloak at the shoulder, and women wearing two- one on each shoulder. If you were a wealthy landowner, your brooch would be made to reflect your high standing.● Girls in grades 1-8 had a fantastic time "leaping" on the various trampolines at Launch on their "In-honor-of-Purim-Katan" trip on Monday. They also enjoyed a treat of ice cream sandwiches to help cool off from all the jumping. Thank you Mrs Sternfield for arranging this trip!● 1G enjoyed a social/emotional lesson given by our social worker, Mrs. Ebstein. The students enjoyed making a craft activity as they explored their own personal strengths and talked about what they like about themselves.● Grades 4-7G completed their Shabbos Malkisa program and participated in the drawing of the grand raffle. The winners were Shana Polter (6G) and Chana Bukiet (5G). All our girls that submitted entries into the Shabbos contest are eagerly awaiting the judge’s decision.
