ข้อความ December 13, 2024 ה״פשת ולסכ ב''י חלשיו תשרפ WHICH IS THE BIGGER THREAT? 3:54 PMDear Parents,When וניבא בקעי davens to Hashem begging to be saved from ושע, he prays: ושע דימ יחא דימ אנ ינליצה: Rescue me from the hand of my brother from the hand of ושע. The יולה תיב writes that this double terminology indicates that Yaakov was davening for two separate salvations: one, from the hand of his brother, and the other from the hand of ושע. Eisav inherently hates Yaakov, and at times openly demonstrates this hatred by seeking to harm Yaakov. There is another side of Eisav however, that is more insidious – when Eisav acts like a brother. When Eisav invites Yaakov with a smile to join him, that also requires a special Tefillah for salvation. These two threats posed by Eisav appear throughout the Parsha. Yaakov encounters Eisav’s ךאלמ who seeks to overpower him. The possuk employs the word קבאיו to describe the struggle. The word קבאיו is generally understood to mean ‘and he wrestled’. Rashi and Ramban explain that that it can also mean קבחיו, and he embraced Yaakov. At the beginning of the Parsha, Yaakov is fearful because Eisav is marching towards him with four hundred men. At the end of their meeting, Eisav begins to talk like a brother and suggests ךגדנל הכלאו הכלנו העסנ, let us travel together. I, Eisav, will sacrifice some of my feelings of hatred towards you and you will compromise on some of your values and convictions, and we will meet somewhere in the middle. These reflect the two ways that Eisav attempts to dominate us – by fighting us outright, or fighting us subtly by attacking our value system and enticing us with friendly words. Which attitude poses the biggest threat? סנכנשכ דחאו חבזמה יבג לע תחא קחצי דרח תודרח יתש ,אמח רב יול ר״א ושע. Rav Levi says: Yitzchak was terrified twice. Once when he was bound on the mizbeiach, and again when Eisav entered his room for the brachos. הלודג וזש עדוי התא דאמ דע הלודג ןאכ ארוק תאש הממ אלא הלודג ןהמ הזיא עדוי התא ןיאו. We can understand from the fact that the possuk uses the words דאמ דע הלודג when describing Yitzchak’s terror when Eisav entered. Chelkas Yaakov explains this medrash as reflecting the dual nature of Eisav’s and Yaakov’s interactions. Yitzchak on the Akieda represents all the karbanos that Klal Yisrael has offered through the ages because of Eisav: the pogroms, crusades, Inquisition, Holocaust, and all the suffering and pain. Eisav receiving the brachos from Yitzchak represents his method of embracing and enticing Klal Yisrael to compromise on their belief and value system. The Medrash is emphasizing that it is the יחא דימ אנ ינליצה that is the bigger threat. Creating the proper boundaries םימעל לארשי ןיב is one of the most formidable challenges we face today. BULLETIN BOARD● This past Sunday was a very momentous day for 1B. The boys celebrated their Chumash Mesibah with parents and grandparents! The Bostoner Rebbe Shlita came to distribute the chumashim to the boys, and he even taught them a song that he learned as a child. The boys began learning the first passuk in their very first chumash! The boys worked very hard preparing a performance that included a play and songs. They were so excited and eager to perform! They did a fabulous job, and the event was enjoyed by all. Following the play, everyone partook of a brunch seudah in honor of the special occasion. Thank you so much Rabbi Sebbag for preparing the boys for this milestone!● At the General Studies faculty meeting on Wednesday, the teachers enjoyed an informative and engaging presentation by Ms. Emily Heeren. Some topics covered were: building rapport with students, understanding student behavior and the teacher's role in helping students develop rational beliefs which affect their emotions and behaviors. ● The Williston canteen sold pizza in honor of Rosh Chodesh Kislev. ● Electives began in the boys building on Wednesday. Among the choices were woodworking, robotics, newspaper and video. The boys appreciate the break in the middle of the week from the traditional learning schedule.● 7B is hard at work writing and debating bills to shape their budding classroom government, as they work out the budget of both time and money to bring their goals to fruition.● 4B gives PE a try-out. With a class focused on skill building, agility, and flexibility 4B gave it their all.● Gathered together, 1B-4B worked together to solve a Geo-bee questions, celebrate examples of responsibility and welcome in Shabbos together.● 5G held a Native American fair as a culminating history project. Each group of girls researched a different Native American tribe and created a diorama, dressed up and made a presentation about their researched tribe. Girls from grades 1-4 enjoyed viewing their creative dioramas and learning new information. ● Mazel tov to 2G on finishing Parshas Noach! Their siyum will be on Monday IyH. The whole school enjoyed the sweetest sound of their very first resounding “chazak chazak Vnischazeik.” May they continue to finish more and more Parshios!● Mazel tov to 3G on finishing Parshas Chayei Sarah! They enjoyed a special siyum baking challah to remember the Challah which lasted fresh a full week in the Imahos tents. Thank you Miss Blumberg!● 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade girls are starting a new Erev Shabbos program. The first unit is focusing on Hashgacha Pratis. Each girl received their own beautiful Hashgacha Pratis diary which they will be writing in each day. There will be exciting raffles, lessons and songs! Thank you Mrs. Fontek for running this program!● This year the 4th and 5th graders will be participating in an exciting Middos program called The S.P.A.R.K. Scoop. The girls are going to be pretending to be journalists who are trying to "get the scoop" on showing Kavod to others. On Thursday the program began with a skit acted out by the teachers and Mrs. Reifman to explain the concept of "Getting the Scoop" on something. The girls each got their staff ID badges, and then had a great time making pens with little beaded girls on top to use when they take notes in their reporter journals. Then, the girls began researching this month's question: Why should we show Kavod to all others?● UPK 2 had an exciting celebration! They earned over 100 pom poms for davening beautifully every day and celebrated with a special drink party.● After learning the bracha of Hagafen, both Pre K classes squashed grapes and made grape juice. A “grape” time was had by all! Uniform Gemach AnnouncementMazel Tov! Condolences Day of LearningCondolencesMazel Tov
