April 12, 2024ד״פשת ןסינ ’ד עירזת תשרפ QUESTION OR EXCUSE 7:05 PMDear Parents,We say in דיגמ that לואשל עדוי וניאש דחאו םת דחא עשר דחא םכח דחא .הרות הרבד םינב עברא דגנכ. The Torah addresses four different types of children, and the הדגה לעב instructs us that Chinuch isn’t a one-size fits all. Each child is addressed according to his unique challenges and questions. We answer them on their individual level of understanding: the םת ,עשר ,םכח, ask us a question, and even the לואשל עדוי וניאש is addressed. The Meforshim point out that among the three sons, the question of the םכח and the םת are introduced by the possuk in תומש and םירבד respectively with the words רחמ ךנב ךלאשי יכ. The עשר’s question, however, is not introduced with the word רחמ, but rather with ורמאי יכ היהו םכל תאזה הדובעה המ םכינב. What is the significance of the word רחמ?The בוטה ןמש answers that although the םכח and םת have question about םירצמ תאיצי, they only ask their question the following day. At the night of the seder, they are focusing on performing the mitzvos of the night. They are so involved and excited that they can’t find the time to ask. Only after they have fulfilled the mitzvos and obligations do they ask their questions to better understand the mitzvos and chiyuvim they performed. On the contrary, the עשר does not wait to ask his question. He insists on an immediate answer because if he doesn’t understand why he should be doing something, he is not ready to do it.This attitude is the opposite of what our attitude towards mitzvos should be. We said השענ עמשנו. Our questioning is just to better understand the mitzvah so we can achieve a more meaningful fulfillment of that mitzvah. The Kotzker Rebbe zatza”l noted that in the tefillah of וניקולאכ ןיא, we first say ןיא וניקולאכ ןיא וננודאכ... and only then do we say וננודאכ ימ וניקולאכ ימ. Asking question are encouraged if they really are questions and not just excuses to avoid doing a mitzvah. Once we have declared unequivocally that ונקולאכ ןיא, then we can ask וניקולאכ ימ.When we are mechanech our children we need to recognize that children are inquisitive, and they ask us questions. Every real question is important simply because the child has asked, and it is bothering him. We must be able to differentiate between a real question or an excuse and answer accordingly.Thank you to all the Rabbeim and Moros for doing such a wonderful job preparing our Talmidim and Talmidos for YomTov.Wishing you all a חמשו רשכ גח and a תבש טוג! We celebrated with a fleishig Siyum on Wednesday. While the siyum was getting ready, most boys sat down to review the Perek. Collectively, the Perek was reviewed 8 times! Thank you so much rabbi Nulman!● 3B Building challenge- Students went from building the tallest tower to the most stable tower, with a tennis ball mimicking the effects of an earthquake. Cool!● Wow! This week we got to view the Solar Eclipse with glasses that the school provided. Some classes even went out several times to see the progression of the moon moving over the sun.● Mazel tov 1B on completing Perek ב! They celebrated with a pizza party!● This Monday, 7th grade girls went on a field trip to the USS Constitution museum. Having just learned about the War of 1812 and the USS Constitution's role, the girls were excited to have the opportunity to explore each deck, guided by a US Navy member. They learned about what life was like for a navy crew member in 1812. Because the ship was closed to the public, they also had a rare glimpse into navy life today as the navy crew cleaned and maintained the ship. After their tour, each girl received a pair of eclipse glasses and stepped outside to view the solar eclipse. Thank you Mrs. Wiesenfeld and thank you to Miss Ostashinsky for chaperoning!● Students in 4G investigated Newton’s Second Law (“The change in motion of an object depends on its mass and the force acting upon it”) and Third Law (“For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction).” We looked at how Newton’s cradle works, added weights on a pendulum to test how it would affect the number of swings, placed an index card atop a cup with a penny in the center, and watched what happened when the card was quickly pulled away. They added weights to a car going down a ramp to test how mass increased with gravity’s acceleration, and rolled marbles in a ruler’s groove to demonstrate Law #3.● Preschool children became budding scientists on “Eclipse Day” this past Monday! They fashioned special face guards into which their eclipse glasses were inserted for extra protection. In addition to watching the actual eclipse, they watched a NASA live presentation and were able to watch the total eclipse from Mexico to Maine. Morah Ilana fashioned shadow boxes that allowed them to eclipse the sun using flashlights. Thank you Morah Ilana for creating such an eclipse fun atmosphere!● Both buildings are buzzing with pre-Pesach ruach! The students are busy publishing hagaddos and working diligently at creating Pesach visuals.
