Coach Cannon was born and raised in the Sandy/Willow Creek area. He comes from a family of 6 and is the youngest of 4 boys and has 4 nieces and a nephew that he loves to spend time with. Coach Cannon grew up playing basketball, baseball, football, and golf until focusing on only basketball in high school. He graduated from Brighton High School in 2009. He played basketball for the Bengals for 4 years from 2006 to 2009 and was the captain of the team his senior year. Coach went on to play a year of college basketball at Southern Virginia University. He was also an Assistant Coach for South Summit High School back in 2014. Working and coaching keeps him very busy but loves to spend his free time on the golf course, spending time with family and of course watching his favorite sports teams. He is very excited to be back coaching at his old stomping grounds. Go Bengals!Coach Baird is very excited and grateful to return to coaching basketball at Brighton High School. Coach Baird spent the first 23 years of his coaching career at Judge Memorial, where at various times he was the head coach of the freshman, sophomore, and JV teams. He feels very fortunate to have been a part of some great teams at Judge, including teams with records of 19-1, 18-1, 18-2, 17-4, and 17-5. During his twelve years as head coach of the freshman team, his teams played for the championship of the annual freshman tournament seven times, winning three championships. He was also very blessed to be a part of a program that had tremendous success under head coaches Jim Yerkovich and Dan Del Porto (and many excellent assistant coaches), including two state championships. In 2016, Coach Baird had the good fortune to be offered a position on Coach Wilson’s staff at Brighton, along with a position teaching English. The relationships with the people in the Bengals’ program – particularly with his fellow coaches – made a profound impact on him. He spent his first year at Brighton as the sophomore coach and his second as a varsity assistant before becoming the head coach at Summit Academy High School. Coach Baird led the Bears for three years, and is very proud of the things they accomplished at Summit Academy. During his time at Summit Academy, they beat numerous 5A and 6A teams, were the only team in Region 13 to beat the region champion each of the past two years, and beat the top ranked team in 3A on the road at the end of his third season. He is now very excited to return to Brighton and to be a part of an historically great program that has clearly gotten better every year since Coach Wilson and his staff took over back in 2016. Coach Baird loves teaching at Brighton, a place he has been at since 2016. Prior to that, he taught at JE Cosgriff Memorial for eight years, at Judge Memorial for ten years, and spent five years teaching an evening GED course twice a week to inmates at the Salt Lake Metro Jail. He has an English degree from the University of Utah, a PE endorsement from Utah State, and a Masters Degree from Grand Canyon University. Coach Baird and his wife, Laura (a Brighton graduate herself and a teacher in Canyons District) live in Sandy with their three children and their dog. When not coaching, Coach Baird enjoys reading, working in his yard, walking his dog, playing board games with his kids, and spending time with his wife.GARRETTWILLJEFFCoach Wilson is in his 6th season at the helm of the Bengals Basketball program. Prior to Brighton, Coach Wilson was the head coach at Taylorsville High School for two years, an assistant at West Jordan High School for one year, and an assistant at Bingham High School for nine years.A graduate of Bingham, Coach Wilson played for the Miners for four years before starting his coaching career at age 18 at his alma mater. During his years at Bingham, Coach Wilson helped assist the boys basketball team to seven consecutive region championships between 2005 and 2011 and one State Championship in 2006. Coach Wilson then moved to rival West Jordan for one year for a chance to coach under one of the best coaches in the state, current Mountain Ridge High coach, Scott Briggs. This experience was invaluable to Coach Wilson and led to his first head coaching job at Taylorsville. After two years with the Warriors, Coach Wilson was hired as the head basketball coach at Brighton High in 2016, and feels extremely privileged to lead this storied and successful program in the future.Coach Wilson completed his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Utah in 2008, and his Master’s degree in Exercise Science-Sport Psychology at California University of Pennsylvania in 2012. He has always had an interest in coaching basketball and was thrilled when Coach Wilson asked him to be on his staff at Taylorsville. He loves to see the growth in kids as they learn the game of basketball but also the skills that they take from the game making them a better person in life.Coach Ford and his wife Taya just had a newborn baby girl, Scotland, and are so excited about their new adventure as parents. They live in South Jordan. He is currently the head JV coach and is very excited about the future continuing to coach at Brighton High. -Go Bengals-Coach Matheson is excited to be back at his Alma mater and be coaching at Brighton High School. Ben started his coaching career in 2002 at Brighton under current athletic director Lynn Moncur. In 2003 Coach Matheson joined the staff at Juan Diego where he was the JV Coach and Assistant Varsity coach for 8 years. Following a move to Summit County Ben began coaching in the same position at South Summit High School where he coached for 3 years. Coach Matheson has enjoyed great success coaching wherever he has been including State Championships at Juan Diego and South Summit. He would love nothing more than to help Coach Wilson bring a State Championship home to Brighton! As a graduate of Brighton High School Ben played basketball 3 years for legendary coach Jim Jimas. Coach Matheson graduated in 1995 and after serving an LDS mission in Argentina married Emily Nielsen Matheson who is also a Brighton High School Graduate. Coach Matheson currently works in construction sales. Ben and Emily currently live in the Brighton area and have 5 kids: Rylee, a Brighton graduate, Jace (a junior at Brighton), Nash (a sophomore at Brighton), Dax (7th grade) and Rio (6th grade).Coach Jensen is happy to be on the staff at the wonderful and basketball tradition rich Brighton High School. He likes to be around the program and is excited to move forward and help the Bengals. He grew up in southern Utah on a farm learning to work long hours at an early age. His Dad was a high school basketball, football, and track coach. He spent many hours in the gym and around athletic programs. While in high school, he participated on the high school basketball and golf team. He was also involved in Student Government and was a regional sterling scholar runner up.He attended Southern Utah University and graduated with a Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. He is currently employed in the Jordan School District where he has taught high school math, finance, and driver education for the last 18 years. Overall, he is in his 23rd year of being a high school teacher. He is endorsed in mathematics, French, finance, and driver education. In addition to being a high school teacher he owns and operates a financial investing company and loves to help his clients with their financial needs and wants. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bordeaux, France. He is the proud father to 4 daughters and a son. One of his greatest joys in life is to spend time with his children and loves to try to be the best Dad possible. As a basketball coach, he has had the opportunity to serve as a Head and Assistant coach for 19 years. He, along with Coach Wilson and Coach Ford, were part of a run at Bingham High School that included 7 straight Region Championships, 4 Final Fours, and 2 State Champion-ship Appearances. He has been involved in both the boys and girls basketball programs at multiple schools including playing for the State Championship 3 times. He has had the opportunity to work alongside some great high school and college basketball minds including Steve Hodson, Dean Fowles, Bill Evans, Jim Wiscombe, Mark Dubach, Randy Simkins, Charron Mason, and, Garrett Wilson. When asked about his favorite memories he would tell you that the greatest moments are when challenging goals are set, relentlessly worked toward, and then enjoyment from the satisfaction of the process to get there was as close to perfect as can be. Results will usually take care of themselves but one’s attitude and effort are everything.TJMARCBEN7
