It was three years before the Wright brothers made their first flight, and the world had not yet seen its first silent film, World Series, or Nobel Prize. In 1900, Colonel John Charles Woodward, and his wife, Lucile, opened the doors of Georgia Military Academy, a place where students would grow not only in academic knowledge but also in qualities like service to others, strong character, critical thinking, and problem-solving, transforming their own lives and the world around them, for generations.John Charles and Lucile Woodward would be exceedingly proud that their vision for educa-tion continues just as they had hoped at Wood-ward Academy in the 2020s, based on prin-ciples of dignity, honor, respect for others, and dedication to giving the best of ourselves.The Academy’s oldest academic building, Brewster Hall, now showcases generations of Academy history in the Stephen A/ Belin ’72 NOW, THE ACADEMY IS POISED TO EMBARK ON PHASE 2 OF THE BREWSTER HALL RENOVATION, WHICH WILL ALLOW US TO:• Relocate the President’s Office from Carlos Hall; along with offices for the Vice President of Academics and Student Life, the Business Office, the Chief Operating Officer, and Human Resources to centrally locate business and academic services.• Showcase Woodward’s long history with expanded historical displays throughout the building. • Continue the preservation and expansion of our extensive archives.• Pay homage to our GMA heritage with a permanent and designated space for our Honor Guard. • Add meeting spaces for volunteer leadership and Academy administration.• Provide improved accessibility with an addi-tional elevator.• Improve energy efficiency by replacing all windows throughout the building.GMA/Woodward Academy History Cen-ter. Thanks to a lead gift from Mr. Belin’s brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Betty Belin, the museum provides the Academy, for the first time in its history, with a visual representation of the past and houses the Academy’s archives.
