Breaking Ground Stefanie Kreider Getting the Full Picture Stefanie Kreider s first mentor she had was her grandfather a union carpenter who dedicated his life to providing for their family At a young age Stefanie had a good idea of the career she would pursue when she watched her grandfather build his own house Stefanie went on to attend Penn State University where she would pursue a Bachelor of Architecture Refuse to Shrink After Stefanie s graduation her grandfather gave her a piece of advice that would shape the way she approached her entire career He explained to her Now just because you have an architecture degree doesn t mean you know everything You know how to design it but your contractors know how to build it Make sure you value their feedback From that point on Stefanie decided that she would be a team player in her career and cultivate a true collaborative energy Starting out in the role of Project Designer Stefanie spent her early career designing and drawing As she began to prove her knowledge to her superiors she was given the opportunity to design her first healthcare project Twenty seven years later that same building still stands and functions well today Stefanie s own daughter has even been a patient in the facility and looking back this design was what solidified that healthcare and more technical projects were her calling Collaborative Spirit Stefanie moved into a position where she worked directly for a healthcare system managing their projects As she describes I look at the whole project team as just that a team As a Project Manager I don t dictate I ask for collaborative solutions from the team s experts
