The Weight of Student Debt and the Importance ofScholarshipsStudent debt has taken a toll on students for decades. The cost of tuition has increased by 36.7% from 2010 to 2023resulting in more young students applying for student loans. However, only 11% of students receive scholarshipsfrom their institutions. Americans have faced a magnitude of stressors in the past years from the COVID-19 pandemic, police violence, andthe job market crashing. Student debt has been an added stress on students and graduates. This has resulted in adelay in house buying and an increase in mental health trauma. People are fighting for student-loan forgiveness, butthe battle is far from over. The best way for students to combat student debt is scholarships. Scholarships are thebiggest relief for college students. It provides students with a fresh start after college with nothing holding themback from pursuing their passions. They are not weighed down by financial stress and instead excel at life. By students applying to a variety of scholarships they can flourish. There is a scholarship for every student. It is amatter of applying and perseverance. A student’s drive to be financially free can change their chance of beingweighed down by college debt. .Technology has been a game changer for the world of education. It has resulted in digital textbooks, global resources, and personalized learning. However, has technology taken a turn for the worse with students using artificialintelligence (AI)? Initially, artificial intelligence was created to enhance the learning process by providing information to help peoplesolve problems. According to education professionals around the globe, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has put ahindrance on a student’s education. However, students have been abusing the use of artificial intelligence. Studentshave been relying on AI to cheat on assignments, exams, and homework. Due to students relying on artificial intelligence programs like ChatGPT their critical thinking skills have plummetedas well as their grades. In a study conducted by Education Weekly they found 63% of teachers said the amount ofstudents accused of using artificial intelligence has increased from 48 percent in the last school year. Teachers have started to use their own artificial intelligence programs to detect the use of artificial intelligence inschoolwork. The only way to stop students from relying on artificial intelligence to do their schoolwork for them is toshow them how to use artificial intelligence to enhance their learning instead of doing their learning for them. TheNational Academy of Learning (NAS) performed a study where they compared 1,000 high school students and studiedtheir test scores. For some students they gave an AI tutor who mimics the regular ChatGPT interface and for others they gave asafeguard learning platform that is like a GPT tutor. They found that those who used the GPT tutor platform’s gradesincreased significantly by 127% in comparison to the 48% increase for those who used GPT Base. Students will useartificial intelligence regardless of being warned against it, it is up to professionals to teach them how to use itproperly to further their learning.
