Tesimonial
We had the opportunity to speak with Mrs. Astrid Martínez, mother of 6-year-old Erick Raúl Martínez Jiménez who suffers from vesicoureteral reflux (urine flows backwards from the bladder up towards the kidney). They live in the department of Santa Rosa, located 82 kilometers from Guatemala City. Since the child was diagnosed, they have visited several doctors in search of a solution, without having been able to find a solution to Erick's condition. Mrs. Astrid tells us: "We have been to many places and we came here (Juan Pablo II Children's Hospital) because we were given the opportunity to have him operated on here. I feel calmer because after the surgery we are no longer going to visit as many doctors, and above all he will be calmer, God bless you always and thank you for having such a big heart and helping us make it possible for this disease to end."
We also interviewed Mrs. Carmen Bobadilla, the single mother of Mateo Alejandro Bobadilla, 5 years old, who was born with a congenital condition called hypospadias, which consists of a disorder in which the opening of the urethra is located in the upper part of the bottom of the penis and not at the tip.
Mrs. Carmen told us: "The stay here has been very good, the doctors have treated him and me well."
"He underwent surgery for hypospadias, it is the third surgery he has had, for him it will be something normal for his life, it has been a difficult process, but he has responded well to the operations, we continue with the treatment hoping that they will work the operations. It is the first time that I come to this hospital, the people who have treated us have been very kind to us, they have given us the necessary help and they have given us what is necessary for our stay here in the hospital."
Remaining Components
The project contemplates the performance of 60 urological surgeries on low-income children in Guatemala, funds were received for 30 procedures, and 26 were executed, for which reason the performance of 4 surgeries in this first phase is pending and the remaining 30 upon receipt of funds
