WATERLEFE GOLF & RIVER CLUB | LEFE LIFE | MARCH 2024 | PAGE 3 MPOA atSusan Greene | MPOA General Manager/COOThis Month's News from the GMDear Members:Wow! March has arrived in the blink of an eye and we welcome Women’s History Month, St. Patrick’s Day, daylight savings time, the first day of Spring, our Walk of Fame Veterans' Appreciation, and this year, Easter. We are excited for for each and every event, Member visits, and offsite fun as Waterlefe Travels heads to the Arcadia Rodeo. Thanks to so many who have already had their photos taken for our 25th Anniversary album. Remember, the photos can be casual or formal, it’s your choice - just have fun! These memories will last a lifetime and will make the historical album truly special. As we head into Spring, deep cleaning comes to mind. In order to maintain a clean and healthy environment in the Fitness Center, it was announced a year ago that the Fitness Center would receive a deep cleaning every Tuesday and Friday between the hours of 7–8 am. This time was determined based on a study of Member usage patterns, and set not only to be the less disruptive for our regular gym users, but also to help our maintenance team have adequate time and space to be thorough. Although the facility is open 24-7 for your convenience, we thank you for keeping this important cleaning schedule in mind as you plan your workouts, and avoiding gym use during this time. Additionally, in order to help maintain a clean and safe environment, please do not prop the doors leading from the pool open unless there is an air conditioning problem or unless directed by our Facilities Manager. The Spring season also means we will be welcoming a lot of your guests. Please remember, all guests must sign a waiver before using the Fitness Center. Missing waivers and/or propping the door open for guests could lead to suspension. To access the necessary forms, you can visit the Fitness Opportunities page under the Thrive Here tab on the Member website, or come by the MPOA office. As we discuss proper maintenance of our facilities, we also remind our Members that the pool is for everyone’s enjoyment, and we strive to keep it at a reasonable temperature that is not only comfortable for the majority of users, but also set to keep equipment running efficiently and with longevity. Replacement parts for the facility are very costly and since this impacts all of our Resident-Members, we handle it with great care. We have discovered recently that a Member has been entering the off-limits area around the pool heater and adjusting the temperature. This is strictly prohibited. This typically happens on the weekend and is then left on until we discover it Monday morning during routine equipment checks. This over 10 degree increase in temperature has caused the heaters to run constantly, risking damage to the equipment. Via this message, we ask that this does not continue, and have installed cameras as a safeguard. Per this reminder and request, we hope we will not have to begin reviewing future footage. Every Member has to share in expenses of repairs and we aim to ensure the Community does not have to pay for unnecessary costs whenever possible. Thank you for your cooperation and keeping this in mind. Please join us, Monday, March 25 at 2:00 pm by the Walk of Fame as we honor our Veterans with the placement of a memorial paver. If you can make it, please email me at gm@waterlefefl.com. Have a wonderful March, everyone!Sla`inte!

WATERLEFE GOLF & RIVER CLUB | LEFE LIFE | MARCH 2024 | PAGE 13 RIVER CLUB MAINTENANCE ALERT: FIRE SPRINKLER EQUIPMENT TESTING Monday, March 4th Between 9:00 PM to 4:00 PM The Annual inspection of the Fire Sprinkler and alarm system will be conducted by our system maintenance company. Members/Staff should expect to hear intermittent soundings of the Buildings Fire Alarms at that time. This and other inspections throughout 2024 are necessary to insure that in the event of a fire the alarm and sprinkler systems will operate properly. Thank you! Tuesday 3/5/2024, Between 9am – 11am The water will be shut down to the entire River Club for a minor plumbing repair. During this time there will be no water usage available for showers, bathrooms etc. so please plan accordingly. The water will be restored asap - no later than 11am. FRIENDLY REMINDER:The complimentary toiletries and provided in our locker rooms / bathrooms are a wonderful convenience, but they are a finite resource that we all must share. Recently, it appears someone is taking the entire stock of items in one visit, leaving nothing for others. Please be mindful and courteous and take/use only one item as needed.

PAGE 16 | LEFE LIFE | MARCH 2024 | WATERLEFE GOLF & RIVER CLUB RIVER CLUB atRiver Club Dining Management NewsDan Adkins | River Club Dining ManagerGreetings from the River Club! We continue to break revenue records as member participation continues to soar. With reservations filling up quickly for our most popular events and often selling out in minutes, it is very important to look ahead to events that interest you and be ready to book right at 8:00am on the day the event opens. Please remember, any reservation sent before 8:00am will not be accepted. If you are booking a large party all names of the party must be given at the time of reservation or the reservation will not be accepted. This is being done to make the process fair for all our residents. Please be cognitive that each event will have a dress code. The dress code is stated on all event fliers just below the price. The dress code will be reminded at the time of final confirmation but if you are not sure please refer to the event flier. If a member or their guests are not dressed appropriately, they will be asked to return home and change into proper attire. If you are bringing guests, please inform them of the event dress code. Please visit the website for the full reservation policy and dress codes:https://waterlefempoa.clubhouseonline-e3.net/Dine_Here/River_Club_Dining_Policies_DocumentsOn to the fun stuff! Sweet Fleet & ABBA NOVA brought the house down as we kicked off our Concert Series. I was able to secure a second night for each of these events to clear our massive wait lists. You may have noticed these second nights were not advertised. This was due to the second nights being added to clear as much of our wait lists for the events as possible. Sunday Brunch has recently been upgraded and the response has been fantastic. If you haven’t been in to try it out yet, make a reservation soon. The Board recently voted to allow the public access to our Sunday Brunches, a common practice for most clubs in the area. We will not make any reservations for those outside of the community until Thursdays, so sign up early to secure your spot.Lindsey has been doing a great job upgrading our website making it much easier to access information for all our events and dining options. Kudos to her! WATERLEFE GOLF & RIVER CLUB | LEFE LIFE | MARCH 2024 | PAGE 25 This Month's CDD UpdatesLANDSCAPE COMMITTEE: The landscape committee recently completed some of their projects for the year to include the enhancement of the Sand Crane South cul de sac, Rainbow Court Median, adding additional plantings to the Winding Stream Berm and making adjustments to irrigation so the annual beds are separate from other irrigation programs like turf. The new vinca annuals will also bring some new colors to the community as they replace the red and purple annuals that were installed for the winter season. On occasion vendors have been known to cause damage to areas like cul de sac grass, leave oil or liquid stains on roadways or any other damage caused to the CDD property. If this happens it’s important to know who to report this to and what information is needed. If you see a vendor cause damage, please take note of the vendor’s name and number and any photos that can be taken are greatly appreciated. Once this is reported to the CDD, staff will reach out to the vendors in question to hold them responsible for repairs. This can be reported to the CDD by calling 941-744-9771 or emailing mphuisman@waterlefefl.com. GOLF COMMITTEE: The Men’s Member Guest event was completed this first weekend of March with a full roster and a waitlist. The golf committee is working with staff to see if any changes can be made or a second event can be added to allow members on the waitlist to be able to get into Member Guest in the future years. The Committee is also working with staff on upcoming events like the WWGA Member Guest and a possible Masters Weekend event to coincide with the Masters in April. Staff is also working on the upcoming Summer Program and hopes to begin advertising for it soon! CAPITAL PLANNING COMMITTEE: Progress is continuing on the clubhouse building with framing beginning inside the building and the expanded bathrooms starting to take shape. If you have been out to golf or practice on the putting green you may have also noticed the masonry block going up on the South side of the building. You deserve the best. You deserve Waterlefe.
PAGE 26 | LEFE LIFE | MARCH 2024 | WATERLEFE GOLF & RIVER CLUB CDD's Safety Tip-of-the-MonthSTAY SAFE - BE AWARE - RESPECT WILDLIFEWaterlefe is known for its many nature trails and preserves in the community, but there is also a plethora of natural wildlife in the community as well. While some may enjoy watching the wildlife it is important to always be safe and keep your distance from wildlife. When walking the community, please make sure that you do not walk near the ponds with children, animals or to look for golf balls as gators have been spotted in the ponds. When walking dogs make sure that they are always kept on a leash and if you are walking the nature trails make sure you stay on the paths. Alligators have been known to move between ponds in the evening so if you are out walking during this time make sure you stay aware of your surroundings. Gators, snakes and the occasional bobcat are among the wildlife that you should keep a safe distance from as they can be aggressive. Lastly, if you have guests visiting who are not familiar with the area or wildlife be sure to let them know to be cautious and always keep an eye out when walking around. If you see wildlife like gators in the ponds, be sure to report them to the MPOA.

PAGE 28 | LEFE LIFE | MARCH 2024 | WATERLEFE GOLF & RIVER CLUB A Fishing Derby Updatefrom Bob Cameron:Hi Waterlefe Fishing Derby anglers. I wanted to give a quick update since we have a little less than one month left in the Derby. As of now we have a big bass of about 22”, a redfish at 29”, and a 20” snook, but the bass and snook awards can be bettered and there are bigger redfish that can still be caught. As the waters warm, snook will be more available and the bass will become more active. And redfish don’t mind the cold so much but they, too, will probably be more active. So 6 anglers have fulfilled their 10 fish / 10 door prize tickets quota, and are now working on getting the BIG one! There are several anglers who who have not entered any fish... Get busy!

PAGE 50 | LEFE LIFE | MARCH 2024 | WATERLEFE GOLF & RIVER CLUB Annual LSW Luncheon RecapOur annual Meet the Author Luncheon was hugely successful this year. Our literary board worked as a team to deliver a fun and efficient event. After researching and reading the novels of potential candidates, Chantel Acevedo, who currently works as a Professor of English at the University of Miami, where she directs the MFA program, was selected to be our author of 2024. Acevedo is the author of Love and Ghost Letters, The Distant Marvels, The Living Infinite, and A Falling Star. All nine of our Waterlefe book clubs read A Falling Star. She also writes successfully for late elementary and middle school students. She has written Muse Squad (a duology) and The Cassandra Curse. Her most recent novel for YA is The Curse on Spectacle Key. Chantel did a great job talking about her background and her Cuban heritage. She answered all the book clubs' questions about her process, the open-ended conclusion, characters, and inspiration. She entertained the 92 people at the luncheon with some thought-provoking conversation about immigration and acceptance issues. Her mother accompanied her to our luncheon, and it was interesting to hear what she remembered about growing up very young in Miami with grandparents who had been part of the Mariel boat lift. All people who come to our country want to feel safe and belong. They are delighted to have their voices heard in their neighborhoods. It was a very timely and important topic and book clubs had great discussions around these timely issues. The Literary Society at Waterlefe seeks to celebrate reading, serves as a communications link among the various book clubs in Waterlefe, and promotes literacy. The LSW also provides some philanthropy and literacy support to one of the Title 1 schools with the lowest reading scores in Manatee County. To this end, we have adopted a Bradenton school for our support, Rogers Garden Bullock, on 13th Street West, in Bradenton. This school has very few community sponsors. This school year, fourth and fifth-grade students at Rogers Garden Bullock read the book The Curse on Spectacle Key by our adopted author, Chantel Acevedo. The children loved its characters and the Florida Keys setting. Called a master storyteller by Kirkus Reviews, Acevedo hit it out of the park with her book talks to students at RGB. She spent the whole day at the school, read interactively with the students, and answered their questions, including “How much do you make?” and “Do you speak Spanish?”. Some students said they looked her up on TikTok. LSW helped Rogers Garden Bullock fund the needed books so that students could read once a week in the library and their specialist classes. The children shared the books, and students eagerly looked forward to their weekly reading with one of our Waterlefe volunteers or one of the school’s specialists. We found the money to fund five raffled-off books so that students could have their copy and have the author’s signature on the book. Some students had never heard an author speak before and were very curious about her process and lifestyle. (Continued...)Page 1/2
WATERLEFE GOLF & RIVER CLUB | LEFE LIFE | MARCH 2024 | PAGE 51 Annual LSW Luncheon RecapHaving a personal connection to the school through this partnership with the author only strengthened our support for the literary efforts at this school. In fact, through our annual raffle baskets, we raised $1500 and will donate this to the literary initiatives at the school. The Principal, Mr. Michael Escorcia, and the Library Media Specialist, Ms. Fay Servoss, attended the luncheon and were very grateful and appreciative of the event and our raffle donation. Rogers Garden Bullock will hold a Book Fair in the next few months. Many students need more money to purchase a paperback for reading at home. Fay Servoss does note which books are top-rated and purchases these books for the library with her school budget money. We need volunteers to help staff the book fair. It involves showing the sample books to students based on their reading ability and making them aware of the genuine joy of reading and sharing an exciting story with others. Please let me know if you can help at the Fair. We are only looking for a few hours of your time. Dates will follow soon. Our event at Rogers Garden Bullock was documented on video by the Manatee School Communications Center. It will be available very soon on the Manatee School District website under Good News. I look forward to sharing the link with you in a future article in Lefe Life. We are also seeking more people with new ideas to join our Literary board and contribute to our vision. Our meetings are once a month from November - March. Lastly, we are in the process of forming a few new book clubs in Waterlefe. They are the Caffeinated Chapter Chasers, the Pros and Cons, and Between the Covers. All are welcome. Some will meet in the evening; others will meet for lunch. Book club presidents would love to meet with you and tell you more about their specific clubs. If you want information about the new clubs, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
