Working Together to Serve theCommunity of Bayonnais
Friends Empowering Haiti (“ FEH”) and Ewo are both 501(c)3 nonprofitsbased in Charlotte, NC whose sole purposes are to nurture the ministry& mission in Bayonnais, Haiti. FEH & Ewo, along with local churches andindividuals, partner with the people of Bayonnais as they strive toimprove their lives. Bayonnais is a mountainous community 70 miles north of Haiti’s capital,Port-au-Prince, and home to 80,000 people whose primary industry issubsistence farming. The average farm is 1 to 2 acres, tilled by hand.Their homes are typically 1-2 room houses with dirt floors and a tin roofand there is no indoor plumbing.The Organization of the Christian Force of Bayonnais (“OFCB”) wasfounded to improve the lives of their families and community by creatinga school and a church. The school began with 3 teachers and 105students and has grown to now educate over 2,500 students a year on 4campuses, from preschool through high school. The people of Bayonnaislive in extreme hardship, yet have strong faith in God. The church notonly provides spiritual sustenance for the community, it also missions tothose less fortunate in the community. Over the last 30 years, OFCB has grown to operate a medical clinic, amercantile store, a farm store, agricultural operation, and a bank. You can make a difference!
They have worked with Engineers Without Borders, FEH, and the UnitedNations to build multiple bridges across the Bayonnais River over the last10 years. This reduced the loss of life and improved transport of patientsto the hospital and teachers to the school. Both organizations needdirectors from churches who currently invest in Bayonnais, as well asdirectors from churches who may invest in Bayonnais in the future. Weare looking for people with talents in areas like education, marketing,finance, medical, governance, retail, small business, and infrastructureprojects.
