Thank you for being here.AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles is proudto host its fifth annual Blue Hourfundraiser, an event that connectsscience, culture, and community bycombining art and technology to tell thestory of and raise awareness for theemerging blue economy. Blue Hour is a chance to connect with andlearn from ocean-minded individuals,celebrate the necessity of our seas, andfurther new technologies to enhance andsustain these aquatic ecosystems. All funds raised by Blue Hour supportAltaSea’s Ocean STEM, which provideseducational programs to studentsthroughout Los Angeles, giving them anopportunity to learn about the jobpossibilities within the blue economy,from marine conservation to underwaterrobotics and clean energy. Your support allows us to pursue this vitalwork and make new breakthroughs in theblue economy. -6-THE ARTISTS Kim Abeles’ art crosses disciplines and media to explorebiography, geography, and environment. She hasreceived fellowships from the Guggenheim MemorialFoundation, J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for the Visual Arts,California Community Foundation and Pollack-KrasnerFoundation. She has created artwork with a uniquerange of collaborators including California Bureau ofAutomotive Repair, California Science Center,Department of Mental Health, and natural historymuseums in California, Colorado and Florida.Taylor Griffith is a multi-disciplinary artist fromOakland, California. Currently, he is living andworking in Los Angeles. He received his BA inphotography with a minor in studio art from theUniversity of La Verne. Taylor recently graduatedfrom the Graduate Art MFA program at Art CenterCollege of Design. His work calls into question therelationships between natural systems andchanging human interactions with the landscape.Taylor takes a multi-medium approach to theinterdisciplinary nexus of art and ecology.For over 30 years, Larry Lubow has dedicated himselfas a sculptor and collector to explore the relationshipbetween art, design, nature, and architecture. An alumof Alfred University, he began his artistic journeyworking with clay and metal, exhibiting his creationsin galleries and design showrooms across the globe.Most recently, at Yard 227 and House 1002, Larry hasfused design, materials, and vintage treasures to craftnew works. Now, he is excited to embark on a newventure—the creation of the Bone Yard at Alta Sea.

OF BLUE HOURBased in Honolulu, Hawai’i, Japanese American artist,Taiji Terasaki, creates innovative photographic andsculptural forms and immersive, large-scaleinstallations. For Terasaki, art is the medium toexplore our interconnectedness, the ecologicalpromise of rewilding, the fragility of the naturalenvironment, and the textures of the humanexperience. From the global impact of climate changeto immigration and nature’s capacity for regeneration,Terasaki inspires us to believe in our power to engagein the conservation, preservation, and restoration ofour planet and our creative spirit.Nova West is an award-winning filmmaker, publishedphotographer, creative artist, and environmentaleducator currently based out of Los Angeles,California. As a National Geographic Explorer andmember of the International League of ConservationPhotographers, they are dedicated to crafting a morediverse and holistic landscape for wildlife storytelling.Their passion lies in exploring our natural world andfinding creative ways to lift as they climb.An exhibition curated by Henry KrusoeHenry Krusoe is an emerging artist and curatorwho lives and works in Los Angeles. Henryreceived a BFA in Studio Art and Philosophy fromVassar College in 2018 and a Master of Fine Artsdegree from Otis College in 2023. Henry joinedAngels Gate Cultural Center as a resident artist in2019, where he still maintains a studio. From 2018to 2020, Henry served as a board member of thenonprofit San Pedro Waterfront Arts District. Hiswork has been shown at Angels Gate CulturalCenter, Flux Gallery, TAM, and the FrancesLehman Loeb Art Center. During last year's BlueHour, Henry served as the curatorial assistant toKim Abeles, who returns as an exhibiting artist inthis year's exhibition.

TONIGHT’SENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMMING: JOEL SILL, EXECUTIVE MUSIC PRODUCER ENTERTAINMENT BY: THE L.A. CHORAL LAB DANCING TO: THE CLASSICS LOS ANGELES DANCE BAND Blue Hour 2024 features the sounds of the ocean, curated by renowned musicproducer Joel Sill, the executive music producer for the evening. Sill isknown for his work on Forrest Gump, Terminator 3, Blade Runner, and manyother box office hits. The mission of the L.A. Choral Lab is to deliver unique,transformative performances of choral repertoire, to advocatefor living composers and the music they write, to providemusical and educational enrichment to young choral artists,and to reach out to the community in a way that creates newlovers of choral music.Learn more at lachorallab.org.
