As we navigate through these unprecedented times, we realize the importance of education based athletics and providing our student-athletes with the high school athletics experience. The 21-22 season is going to be especially exciting because the Coastal Conference is hosting its inaugural Conference Championship Tournament at the end of regular season play. For the first time ever, the Coastal Conference Tournament Champion will be crowned the League Champion earning the automatic Conference bid to the San Diego Section CIF tournament.Nick Levine enters his 8th season as the head coach of the Bishop’s basketball program. Under coach Levine’s leadership, our basketball program is student-centered creating a “family” atmosphere aligning with the school’s core values. Our student-athletes work tirelessly training off and on the court while maintaining a rigorous academic schedule. Through the ever changing Covid-19 protocols, our student-athletes have persevered through ups and downs setting high expectations and goals for the season. We want to thank our coaching staff, our parents/guardians and our student-athletes for their dedication to the program both in and out of season. The sights and sounds of a new basketball season surround us and we are thrilled to get this season underway! Go Knights,Paula ConwayDirector of Athletics We are thrilled to kick off another season of high school basketball. We had a shorter than ever off-season and with a lot of returning players we hope to hit the ground running. I am excited about this group as we have a nice mix of guys who have been in the program for a few years along with a few newcomers. I expect us to put a product out on the floor that our community can be proud of because of how connected we will be and the consistent effort that we will always give. Our staff will work hard to make sure we are putting the kids in positions to grow while creating lasting memories. As always our emphasis for each practice will be on player development and team chemistry. We want to make sure that everyone who has a hand in making our season go feels our appreciation. Our parents, administrators, and the overall Bishop’s community all play a major part in the positive culture that we strive to create. And as we always say before each game: Play Hard, Play Smart, Play Together! Go Knights!Nick LevineNick LevineWELCOME!3

My dad, who was either coaching one of our youth teams or driving me around to gyms all over the city. His love of the game definitely rubbed o on me. Also my high school coach John McArdle who had the ability to be tough on his players but it never felt personal because you always knew how much he cared about you. Head Coach Nick LevineMy inspiration to coach came from my Dad. He coached me and my friends throughout all my youth in basketball and baseball. He taught me life lessons through sports that I carry to this day. I saw first hand the impact my dad had on our community through coaching and hope I can have the same impact.Dan Wilmot, my high school soccer coach, inspired me to GET into teaching and coaching. His ability to unite and connect with others was a great influence. Ryan Meier, a San Diego basketball coaching legend and mentor, inspired me to STAY in coaching. His ability to use the hardwood as a classroom, sanctuary, and home solidified my passion for the profession. Thank you Dan Wilmot and Ryan Meier!4

Who inspired you to get into coaching:Who inspired you to get into coaching:BISHOP’S BASKETBALL COACHING STAFF:BISHOP’S BASKETBALL COACHING STAFF:My father and grandfather both inspired me to get into coaching. My grandfather (Papa Bill) coached my mom all growing up and she always told stories about how much fun she had playing for her dad. My father (Gary) always volunteered to coach my teams when I was growing up. It was very special to me and I knew how special it was to my mom as well. I wanted to have that positive impact on others and was helping coach as soon as I was done with high school.ASST. COACH Daniel ClarkEver since I can remember Carolina basketball has been in my life. The man behind the best basketball program in the country is my inspiration to begin coaching. From watching his tapes, reading his books and attending his camps every summer as kid, Dean Smith was a huge influence in my basketball life even from afar. I find myself always going back to things he ran and did as a coach and use them with my teams. From the Thought of the Day, to pointing to the passer Coach Smith’s influence is ever present with me. JV Head Coach MATT EVANSI was inspired to volunteer as a coach with the Boys Basketball team based on what Bishops’ coaches did for my son when he was a student here from 2006-2010. He played football rather than basketball, and entered ninth grade as a scrawny freshman weighing about 110 pounds who had never played football in pads before. No matter, Coach Walton, Coach Johnson and others treated him as though he were a Heisman candidate and taught him the game when there was no reason to ever believe he would ever contribute at the varsity level. Their investment of time allowed him to learn the game so that when he grew into 5’11” 185 pound “cut” senior (greatly aided by Charlie’s strength training) he reached his full potential and was oensive player of the year and an all-league running back/linebacker. It could only have happened at Bishops, as coaches at other schools wouldn’t have invested the time without a guaranteed return. That’s why I love Bishops and I hope to give back to current students in the manner that Bishops coaches gave to my children.JV ASST. Coach Charles Theuer5
