11Welcome to BEYOND! The art//tech//culture experimental program@Bumbershoot created to play with, look at, learn about, andeven make the future - in Seattle and BEYOND. Drawing on bigdreams and small t technology, we hope to ignite yourimagination toward new possibilities for experiencing art andmusic, sharing the value we create together, supporting yourfavorite musicians and bands, making a living as a careerartist, and humanizing the machine to facilitate thesepossibilities. You'll find BEYOND integrated at dedicated locations on and offSeattle Center Campus - artists and creative technologists whoare pushing the edges of immersive media, data visualization,projection mapping, wearable technologies and more. Togetherwe'll attend concerts and workshops, listen to speakers andpresentations, play with bots and tokens, be immersed in kineticlight, meditate on deep listening, and explore big questions -how do we dream about, believe in and actually forge thepossibility of a beautiful world in earnest right now.Look for a Welcome Center to get started and jump IN!Artist/Musician: Seattle crowds are lit. ME/WE + The Machine: Humanizing The Machine When every news headline is about how the chatbots are taking over,and the frankensteins unleashed, we want to create a new narrativewhere festival goers “feed the machine” with the creativity andimagination of our arts and culture communities. Inspired by theArt + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon, an annual global activitywhere volunteers come together to create and update Wikipediaentries on female artists, Humanize The Machine is a hackathon-likeactivity at Cornish Playhouse where we will bring togethermusicians to teach the machine about writing music, poets to teachthe machine about writing poems and lyrics, community organizers toteach the machine about justice, Bumbershoot founders to teach themachine about a city’s 50 year commitment to celebrating art andculture, Wa Na Wari art collective speaking about public art as avehicle for creating generational wealth for black homeowners. Create 3.0: The Future of Making + Earning / Fandom + Investing What exactly is web 3.0 and its potential for creating new economicmodels to sustain the careers of musicians, artists and makers inour community, and beyond? This day-long program of workshops,speakers, presentations looks at the future of making and earning.Participants will learn about the tools - tokens, smart contracts,micropayments - for creating peer to peer relationships betweenartists and fans that are collectively invested in and co-owned.Pussy Riot’s Nadya Tolokonnikova (who is playing at the festival)will speak about forming Unicorn DAO and its mission to supportwomen and non-binary artist and work with local artists to createan affinity group. 9BEYOND Program BEYOND ProgramPROPOSED PROGRAM 3.15.23Opening Night/Call The City To Dinner On Friday September 1st 2023, we will ring a dinner bell heard around the entire city of Seattle. It’s an invitation to the city to come together to share a meal, celebrate the opening of Bumbershoot, the 50th anniversary of the festival, and dream big about the future of our city and the critical role of arts and culture in reinvigorating it. Seattle's premiere chefs will prepare dinners at Seattle Center around the International Fountain and in neighborhoods throughout the city. Dinner guests will be invited to respond to conversation prompts and participate in an after dinner group sing-along, led by musicians playing at the festival. Digital portals will connect the Seattle Center dinner to the neighborhood dinners for the beginning ringing of the bell and the closing sing along.Giant Sing Along Created by Daily Tous Les Jours, a Montreal based art group, Giant Sing Along invites people of all ages and backgrounds to sing their hearts out, karaoke style, sharing in a collective musical experience. A large LED screen projects lyrics and up to 32 microphones can be activated, with the capacity for individual mics to soloed. Festival musicians will make special appearances and local arts organizations and community groups will DJ.Re-Entros Inspired by Seattle's own 1990s immersive theater Entros and BLAST THEORY's (UK) interactive Hide Me experience, this 21+ Live Immersive + Theater Games pop-up sends participants out to the city to collect clues and brings them back to share wins and adventures over drinks @ The Space Needle. * This is a separate ticket program. PROPOSED PROGRAM 3.15.23Deep Listening: The Art + Technology of Sound at Pacific ScienceCenter Laser DomeDesigned for the 1962 World’s Fair by Buckminster Fuller’s firm, thePacific Science Center’s 76-foot-diameter Laser dome is the largestfacility in the US dedicated to laser shows. It's also the longestrunning laser dome since the debut of laser shows in the early1970s. Come experience the laser experience enhanced with projectionand a spatialized sound. Watch the Bumershoot 50-year history lookback. Experience your favorite band illuminated in a choreographedshow of color, images and light. On your way out look up at thescience center arches to see the DATA IS US data light show. Augmented! Experience the Seattle Center's public art tour in augmentedreality. Local augmented reality artists will create digital visualand audio layers of existing public art, capturing the artist'sreflections about their work, and even adding aesthetic layers. Keymoments from Bumbershoot's local arts history will be geolocated andadd gamification to the tour through unlocking clues. A prototype ofAugmented! will launch at this years festival and be enhanced forfuture festivals. Stop by a Welcome Center to pick up a map and getstarted. Data Is Us DATA IS US is a nightly light performance – from the Pacific ScienceCenter arches to the weather balloons in the sky, and screens on thestages – of festival data created together throughout the day - howmany festival goers, how many songs played, how loud we cheered andsang, etc. The data measured will be voted on by ticket holdersleading up to the festival and/or at the Welcome Centers at thestart of each day.
