Impact November 2021 This month we are highlighting collections for Xmas appeals around our offices If you can donate or give to them please do help others less fortunate than yourself Remember to get in touch with me by email cath howard bepdt com or ring me on 07881383488 Fundraising and community activity within BEP Earlier this year Si Jeffers Warrington BEP Office Declan Murphy and David Searle completed the David Goggins 4 x 4 x 48 challenge They ran 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours in the quest to raise money for Centrepoint They completed this and managed to raise 7 000 Once they recovered they knew they wanted to go again and so on the 3rd October Declan David and Si were joined by Oliver Black and completed the October London marathon David and Si said We all love a challenge but being able to raise funds and awareness for Centrepoint a charity that provides housing and support for young people in the UK makes us more motivated to succeed This charity really means a lot to us all For three of us this will be our first ever marathon so there is no doubt it will be tough both mentally and physically Well done to the team and to Si for raising almost 11 000 Andrew McGrath Washington House is raising money for Bolton Wanderers in the Community He said I want to raise funds in support of mental health so my daughter and I will be tackling various terrain as we walk over 20 miles from the University of Bolton Stadium to Accrington Stanley football club to raise funds to support mental health in the community following the impact of Covid during the past 18 month pandemic We will be doing this walk in December along with other BWFC supporters and the chairman of Bolton Wanderers Sharon Brittan We aim to set off at 6 30am regardless of weather conditions travelling across and over the Lancashire moors via Belmont and Darwen Our ultimate goal is to arrive in time for the 3 00pm kick off You can donate to their JustGiving page by clicking here https www justgiving com fundraising mcgrath41 utm_source Sharethis utm_medium fundraising utm_content mcgrath41 utm_campaign pfp email utm_term 4eac896a8aa84c1bb50d23de35ba3466 All our offices marked Remembrance Day with a 2 minute silence Jonathan Pringle from our Stockton office said Stockton has a proud history regarding Remembrance and every year we meet at the Memorial to reflect Jayne Dale led the proceedings with the assistance of the Stockton procurement including Andrea Jackson Andy Oates and myself as we laid a wreath to honour those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to let us live how we do today Jayne added In 2021 we are marking 100 years since the nation s collective Remembrance traditions were first brought together The poppy two minute silence Armistice Day the service for the Unknown Warrior and the march past at the Cenotaph are traditions that millions participate in every year Remembrance honours those who serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life We unite across faiths cultures and backgrounds to remember the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces community from Britain and the Commonwealth your monthly BEP social impact news
Impact Social Impact on BEP Black Dog Outdoors Catherine Melvin Project Wellbeing Coordinator HSE Technical Administration Support Site said On Thursday 21st October I supported the Mental Health Charity Black Dog Outdoors Cumbria Outdoor Partnership with one of their local wellbeing walks These walks are designed to give local residents access to the outdoors in order to improve their wellbeing The walks are led by fully qualified mountain leaders supported by Mental Health First aiders which is where I came in The walk began from Dale Garth station in Eskdale with transport provided from Whitehaven and pick up points along the way The walk took us along the forest track with up to the newly erected viewing platform of Stanley Ghyll falls which was spectacular There were 12 attendees plus leaders the walk was around 5 miles in total an added bonus was the weather which made the day with sunshine all the way Several of the attendees commented on how being in the outdoors had a positive impact on their mood how being part of the group gave them the confidence to get them out the door Newsflash Cath Melvin emailed me to say Black dog outdoors have been announced winners of the Mental Health Wellbeing awards as Best innovative proactive organisation we re absolutely over the moon its great to be connected to such a fantastic group BEP Site Safety Draw in partnership with Sellafield The latest charity draws from site are Allerdale Copeland Autism Support State Of Mind based in Preston and Tiny Lives Newcastle RVI Please nominate the charity you would like to see included in the monthly safety draw so they have a chance at being given up to 1 000 There are hundreds of charities in West Cumbria that you can nominate Water difference these students have made by Leading Change at Workington Academy Students from Workington Academy have devised a scheme to replace thousands of single use water bottles bought by pupils each year with reusable bottles they can refill Year 9 pupils chose to target reducing plastic waste through their involvement in the Leading Change programme run by CfLP It s designed to help them develop vital leadership life skills including communication team working and planning With help from school staff and Cath Howard of BEP as business mentor the team have secured 1 000 water bottles from United Utilities to be branded with a logo designed by one of the pupils They re organising a launch event to publicise the initiative and have produced posters made presentations to pupils highlighting shocking facts on plastic use and raised awareness of their campaign Workington Academy is providing new recycling bins for plastic and more water fountains to refill the bottles Seven pupils make up the action group that meets weekly with Cath Howard Social Impact Manager for BEP a joint venture between Balfour Beatty and Jacobs Cath Howard says The pupils have risen brilliantly to the challenge They have just half an hour each week formally allocated to this task but have been making space within their busy timetables to get together and get things done Individuals have been appointed for different roles but they also work as a team to support one another This activity can be a life changing experience for young people broadening their horizons and instilling a new confidence in themselves and in their futures your monthly BEP social impact news
