As a daughter, wife, sister, aunt, and mom to four wonderful boys, I’m reminded daily how lucky we are to walk through life surrounded by strong, beautiful women who lift, guide, and shape the world in big and small ways.It feels extra special to celebrate this spirit with our May issue — our Women Who Inspire edition. Our gorgeous cover features a beautiful look from Southern Charm- whose owner Emily is not only the creative force behind the boutique, but also the incredible photographer behind the lens. Emily wears so many hats — business owner, photographer, wife, sister, daughter, friend, mother, and woman of faith — and she makes it all look effortless. She’s truly a woman who inspires in every sense, and we couldn’t be prouder to shine a light on her businesses this month.Inside this issue, you’ll nd so many heartwarming and inspiring stories to savor. We’re sharing Mother’s Day recipes perfect for celebrating the women who make life sweeter, along with a touching tribute written by my sister about our own magical mother — and the beautiful tradition of creating magic we now pass on to our own children. We also dive into a new book by the ever-inspiring Marie Bostwick, chat with beloved Southern author Kristy Woodson Harvey about her latest novel (and some girl talk you won’t want to miss!), and spotlight Kate Miller’s 20 Life Lessons from a Regular Mom — a true reminder that extraordinary wisdom often comes from everyday life. You’ll also meet others who are changing the world in their own way, like Cara Slattery, nominated by her sister as a Woman Who Inspires, and the amazing team behind LEO Santa, a local nonprot spreading kindness year-round. Plus, don’t miss our artist prole on Eliza Price, a bright creative light in the art community, and a fun DIY guide to throwing the perfect Cinco de Mayo celebration. And because every mom (and every woman!) deserves a little getaway, we’re thrilled to feature StayCamp’s newly renovated Pinestone Cabin — and be sure to enter our Mother’s Day giveaway for your chance to win a stay! This entire issue is a beautiful reminder that you don’t have to move mountains to inspire others — sometimes, the quiet, everyday moments we create for those we love are the ones that truly change lives.Happy Mother’s Day to all the women making magic every day — you inspire more than you know. 12SHE MADE A LIFE OUTOF ORDINARY DAYSAND SOMEHOW MADEIT ALL FEEL LIKE MAGIC
13s a working mom of three little kids, most of my days are anything but quiet. They’re loud, messy, sweet, and sometimes chaotic—usually all before 8 a.m. Between appointments, practices, camps, birthday parties, and the occasional forgotten homework, life can feel like one never-ending to-do list. It’s easy to believe that we have to do ALL the things ALL the time just to keep up. But here’s the truth: you don’t. Magic doesn’t live in the hustle—it lives in the stillness. The simple. The everyday. But somewhere in between school drop-os, emails, baseball practices, and sticky kitchen counters, I catch myself thinking about the women who inspire me. The ones who taught me that even the most ordinary days can be filled with the kind of magic you remember forever. My own mom is the first woman I think of. She raised my sister and me to be strong-willed, opinionated women who never take no for an answer—and who can come up with a solution to just about anything. She taught us early on that life isn’t about fancy vacations or having the latest and greatest anything. It’s about finding joy in the small stu—bike rides around the neighborhood, backyard birthday parties with homemade cakes, creekside adventures, and afternoons at the pool. Yes, we had our share of “big” moments too, but the memories I come back to the most weren’t extravagant. They were simple and sweet, made special just by being together. One of our latest favorite memories? Taking the city bus downtown for a day of exploring. No big plans—just a ride, a little wandering, some ice cream, putt putt, and a lot of laughter. That city bus ride has become the stu of legends in our family. Pure magic from a very ordinary moment. That’s the kind of magic I want to continue giving my kids. But I’ll be honest: even creating a list of simple joys can feel overwhelming when your brain is running on snacks and scheduling. So this month, I’m challenging myself—and you— to slow down and reflect. When was the last time you baked a cake just because?Took a walk together with no destination?Caught fireflies in the backyard?Turned on music and danced in the kitchen?Read a book together under a tree?I encourage you to make a list of at least five simple things you can do this month—or even this summer—that bring you joy. Little things. Things that feel light and fun and don’t require any prep or packing. Because magic doesn’t come from a perfect itinerary. It comes from presence, from spontaneity, and from finding wonder in the everyday. As we celebrate Mother’s Day and honor the women who inspire us, let’s remember those who taught us how to slow down, look around, and make a little magic out of the ordinary. Maybe it’s your mom. Your sister. Your best friend. Your grandmother. Or maybe, it’s you—in yesterday’s mascara, flipping pancakes and holding it all together. Here’s to the women who remind us that a full life doesn’t have to be a fancy one—and that magic can always be found in the everyday, if you’re lucky enough to look for it.SHE MADE A LIFE OUTOF ORDINARY DAYSAND SOMEHOW MADEIT ALL FEEL LIKE MAGIC5 SIMPLE THINGS THAT BRING JOY:1.2.3.4.5.BY MELISSA RHINE
A SISTER’SLOVE, ACOMMUNITY’SINSPIRATIONWhen I think about the word “inspiration,” I think of my sister, Cara Slattery. She’s not just an incredible sister—she’s a powerhouse of determination, heart, and hustle. Watching her take a leap of faith and build something beautiful from the ground up has inspired our entire family, and now, an ever-growing circle of customers and friends across the Upstate.Cara is the proud owner of Cara Bella Boutique, with locations in both Spartanburg and Greer, South Carolina. But her journey here has been anything but easy. She moved to Spartanburg for family reasons, leaving behind her life in Nashville, TN, where she had been a successful food broker. When the pandemic hit, she was laid o. As a single mom with her son still living at home, she did what she always does—she got to work. She juggled three jobs to make ends meet and eventually landed a full-time role that helped her rebuild. But Cara wasn’t done dreaming. She started making jewelry as a creative outlet—pieces that reflected her style, her strength, and her heart. That side hustle, Cara Bella Jewelry, was her first foray into entrepreneurship. You could find her at local markets and craft fairs, always with a smile, sharing her creations and making genuine connections. Then, in 2023, she spotted a building on Magnolia Street in Spartanburg—just a shell of a space, but full of potential. It was love at first sight. That vision became Cara Bella Boutique. While the boutique was under construction (much longer than anticipated, of course), she returned to markets to spread the word, meet new customers, and even find a future team member or two.In March of 2024, Cara opened the doors to Cara Bella Boutique in Spartanburg, and just a few months later, the Greer location followed in June. She took the ultimate leap of faith and left her full-time job to focus completely on her businesses—something I still find incredibly brave. Not only has she created two beautiful spaces for women to shop and connect, but she’s also created jobs and opportunities for her growing team. And she doesn’t stop there. Cara also plans and executes Spring into Spartanburg and Fall for Spartanburg—two downtown festivals that highlight small businesses and celebrate the vibrant heart of our community. She gives other entrepreneurs the space and spotlight to shine, all while inspiring the next wave of dreamers to take that first step. She has the biggest heart—for people and for pets (the “Bella” in Cara Bella is a nod to her beloved Sharpei). She’s the kind of person who never meets a stranger, works harder than anyone I know, and somehow always makes time for everyone who needs her.Cara didn’t just open boutiques. She opened doors— to opportunity, connection, and community. She is proof that starting over doesn’t mean starting from scratch. It means starting from experience, from resilience, and from a heart that’s ready to give back.Cara, you are my sister, my role model, and my biggest inspiration. The Upstate is lucky to have you!BY LISA GIAIMO

16¡VIVA LAFIESTA!I never miss a chance to throw a party, especially when tacos are involved. Cinco de Mayo may not be a major holiday on the calendar, but in my world, it’s the perfect excuse to gather your girls, shake up a cocktail, and celebrate all things bright, bold, and full of avor. So this May, in our Women Who Inspire issue, I thought it only tting to inspire you with a little do-it-yourself esta magic—Belle-style.Whether you’re hosting your best friends, your book club, your family, or your favorite coworkers, here’s how to create a Cinco de Mayo celebration that’s fun, festive, and fabulously easy. No stress, just chips, sips, and a whole lot of color.
17¡VIVA LAFIESTA!SET THE SCENE: FIESTA VIBES ONLYLet’s talk decor. You don’t need to spend a fortune or break out a glue gun to make things festive. Here’s what I love to do:1. Bright Table Linens & Mismatched PlatesDig into your linen drawer and grab the brightest tablecloth you own (or hit your local thrift store for one). Throw in some colorful, mismatched dishes and napkins—it’s all about fun, not perfection.2. Papel Picado Banners & Cactus AccentsPick up a papel picado banner or two (they’re easy to find online or at party stores) and string them across your patio, dining room, or even your kitchen. Add mini cacti or succulents to the table in little terra cotta pots—bonus points if you paint the pots yourself with your kids the weekend before.3. DIY Margarita BarSet up a little drink station with sliced citrus, salt rims, and a variety of mix-ins—let your guests play bartender. I love putting out handwritten cocktail cards for a personal touch.LET’S TACO ’BOUT THE FOODFood is everything for Cinco de Mayo. I keep it simple but crowd-pleasing, and yes, tacos are always on the menu. My favorite combo? A build-your-own taco bar with a couple of standout recipes that make you look like a pro without breaking a sweat.SHREDDED CHICKEN TACOS (SLOW COOKER STYLE)Set it and forget it, then serve it with all the toppings.YOU’LL NEED:2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts1 jar of your favorite salsa1 packet taco seasoning (or make your own with chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and paprika)Juice of 1 limeINSTRUCTIONS:Place everything in your slow cooker and cook on low for 6–8 hours or high for 3–4.Shred with two forks and serve in warm tortillas with shredded lettuce, cheese, diced avocado, and a drizzle of crema.ELOTE DIP (AKA MEXICAN STREET CORN DIP)This dip is always the first to disappear.YOU’LL NEED:4 cups corn (fresh, canned, or frozen and thawed)1/2 cup mayo1/2 cup cotija cheese (plus more for topping)1/4 cup chopped cilantroJuice of 1 lime1/2 tsp chili powderINSTRUCTIONS:Sauté the corn in a skillet with a little butter until slightly charred.Remove from heat and mix with the rest of the ingredients.Serve warm or at room temp with tortilla chips.Sip, Sip, Olé: A Fresh Take on MargaritasNo party is complete without a signature cocktail, and this one is so worth making:STRAWBERRY BASIL MARGARITASSweet, tart, and a little herby—it’s the ultimate spring cocktail.YOU’LL NEED (MAKES 2):1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced4 basil leaves4 oz tequila blanco2 oz fresh lime juice1 oz triple sec1 oz agave syrup (or simple syrup)Salt or sugar for the rim (optional)INSTRUCTIONS:Muddle strawberries and basil in a shaker.Add tequila, lime juice, triple sec, and syrup. Fill with ice and shake until cold.Strain into glasses over fresh ice. Garnish with a strawberry slice and basil leaf.A TOAST TO WOMEN WHO INSPIREAs we celebrate Cinco de Mayo, I love that it coincides with our annual Women Who Inspire issue. There’s something special about gathering around a table—whether it’s for tacos or deep conversation—with strong, smart, spirited women. That’s the kind of energy I want to bring into every room and every party. So throw on your brightest dress, blast some salsa music, and raise your margarita to the women who make life more colorful. Here’s to good food, good friends, and celebrating every chance we get.BELLE’S DIY

22TWENTY LIFELESSONSfrom a Regular MomThis March 28th somehow marked 19 years since I last talked to, hugged or saw my precious mom. Her name was Beckie and she lived a full, beautiful life in her 56 years with us that were cut short by colon cancer. My mom taught me so much that I have carried with me into my adult life and in my role as mom to my own big family. Despite the huge loss I still carry, I am mostly at peace and just feel deeply grateful for her life. She loved and encouraged well, was quick to laugh, had a sharp wit, cared deeply and was a good friend to so many.As my heart and mind continually land on my mom leading up to this mile-stone of our loss, I have been reflecting on life lessons she taught me. She set a foundation for me long before I became a mother and I now see that I have grown into living my life with her ways in my heart and my ways growing from them.As we look ahead to Mother's Day, I wanted to share 20 life lessons from a regular mom. Some lessons were learned from my dear mom and some I have learned on my own as I joyfully see life through a mother's eyes. These lessons are not in any particular order of importance.1. Make small things special and beautiful. Bring in yard flowers or set a pretty table for no reason. Make normal life beautiful where you can.2. Give gifts. Even tiny ones have a big impact if there is thoughtfulness in the giving.3. Operate with a gracious grit. Be kind and caring but tough and persistent.4. Get to know people, especially those you see often, like your regular bank teller, barista, or grocery store clerk. Let them get to know you. Sharing life with others is a great gift.5. Create traditions in your home, like special breakfasts on Saturdays, certain desserts or meals at holidays, watching a family movie on Fridays, etc. These small things make impactful memories.6. Keep going, no matter what. No matter how bad you feel, how hard things may be, how dicult someone you love may be at that time, etc. Do the next right thing with a calm, loving attitude and you will set an example for all around you.7. Having good manners is important. They are not empty tradition, but a way to show others respect.8. Host people in your home, whether or not you think it's perfect or looks like you want it to.9. Remember people’s names and something about them so you can ask a thoughtful question the next time you meet. This gives great encouragement to people and is really fun!10. Be a hard worker. There is beauty and dignity in working hard, no matter how insignificant or important the task.11. Life may not go the way you want it to and things will get really hard at some point. Letting anger overcome you is never a productive response.12. Be honest about the hard things, but do not dwell in them too long. Share your burdens with others and be a friend who will listen with care to someone having a hard time.13. Be very quick to see God’s good gifts and be grateful. Every day is truly a gift and there is beauty everywhere if you have eyes to see it.14. No one owes you anything and you are not better than anyone else. Treat everyone with respect and don’t tolerate those who are disrespectful of you.15. Being quick to smile puts every-one at ease and laughter is good for your soul.16. Learn new things, even if you think you may be really bad at them.17. Watch less TV, scroll less and instead read more books or go outside.18. Go to as many of your special peo-ple’s special events as you can.19. Cooking is beautiful and feeding people also nourishes their hearts.20. Ask questions and listen to others more than you talk about yourself.I hope this list would make my mom feel encouraged and proud. It was easy to notice the small things she did that communicated big care for others, and although they were done quietly, they had a great impact on me. I hope she knows the joy it is to be her daughter and how much I appreciate her more and more the longer she is gone and the older I get.Happy Mother’s Day to you and yours. May we all live lives that are filled with encouragement and make our families proud.Kate Miller is a watercolor artist in Greenville. 29f you’re dreaming of the perfect Mother’s Day gift — one that says relax, recharge, reconnect — we’ve found it. Tucked away in the beautiful Upstate countryside, StayCamp’s newly renovated Pinestone Cabin offers everything you need for the ultimate weekend getaway.Pinestone Cabin is where cozy meets rustic charm. Thoughtfully designed with modern comforts and surrounded by peaceful forests, it’s the kind of place where you can finally slow down, breathe deeply, and truly reconnect — with nature, with your loved ones, and with yourself.Studies show that spending time outdoors improves mental health, reduces stress, and boosts creativity. In other words: getting back to nature might just be the secret to being a happier mom, a more patient friend, and a more joyful partner. And what better way to do that than with a stay at Pinestone? Whether you’re sipping coffee on the front porch, exploring the woods, or just soaking in the stillness, every moment here is a reminder to savor the simple things. But StayCamp’s story makes this place even more special. Owners Alec and Rachel poured their hearts into building StayCamp into a peaceful retreat, only to face major setbacks last year after flooding and Hurricane Helene devastated parts of their property. Instead of giving up, they rolled up their sleeves, rebuilt, and created an even more beautiful space — a true labor of love. Now, Pinestone Cabin stands as a symbol of resilience and a reminder of the beauty that can come after the storm — literally and figuratively.Ready to plan yo own escape?BOOKING A STAY IS EASY:Visit airbnb.com (The Pinestone at StayCamp) for availability, or follow them on Instagram @staycampsc to see more glimpses of the property and future updates.DON’T MISS IT!Stay tuned to Belle Magazine’s social media for a very special Mother’s Day Giveaway, where you’ll have the chance to win a weekend getaway at Pinestone Cabin — because every mom deserves a little (or a lot) of peace, quiet, and adventure.@BELLEMAG_OFFICIAL@STAYCAMPSC

THE BOOK CLUB FOR TROUBLESOME WOMEN BY MARIE BOSTWICKIf you’ve ever found yourself changed by a book—or felt the magic that happens when women gather to share their stories—Marie Bostwick’s latest novel will feel like a love letter written just for you.In The Book Club for Troublesome Women, Bostwick transports readers to 1960s suburbia, where four women come together over cocktails, conversation, and a groundbreaking bestseller that would change their lives. The novel was inspired by a simple but profound conversation Marie had with her own mother, then 88 years old, about The Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan. “She said, ‘That book changed my life,’” Marie told us. “Three minutes later, I knew exactly what I needed to write next.”And write it she did—with heart, humor, and a deep understanding of how sisterhood shapes us. Set in the seemingly idyllic town of Concordia, Virginia, the story follows Margaret Ryan, a woman who has it all on paper—husband, kids, a pretty house, a shiny station wagon—but still wonders, is this it? A spontaneous book club meeting with three other neighborhood women quickly becomes a spark for something much bigger: self-discovery, friendship, and quiet (and not-so-quiet) rebellion.Marie captures the complicated and beautiful power of female friendship with unforgettable warmth. “When women challenge and champion one another, lives are changed for the better,” she said. “That’s the biggest takeaway I hope readers walk away with.”The setting—a rapidly changing 1963 America—was inspired by stories from Marie’s own mother and her lifelong curiosity about women’s history. “It was an era of enormous progress, but also of societal awakening. People were starting to ask why the system worked better for some than others, and what fairness might look like,” she said. The questions her characters face—about identity, equality, and agency—still resonate today.Marie, a New York Times bestselling author, says writing doesn’t get easier, no matter how many books you’ve published. “Typing ‘Chapter One’ is still an audacious act,” she laughed. “Every book is a new adventure, a chance to challenge and stretch yourself.”Her writing routine? Intense, to say the least. When working toward a deadline, Marie often checks into a hotel and writes 14 to 16 hours a day. “It’s pretty brutal,” she admits. “But it works for me. And when I’m not writing, I love spending time with my husband, kids, and grandkids—or quilting, cooking, gardening, knitting, and reading just for fun.”BELLE’S BOOKSHELFAnd here’s something her fans might not know: she’s a great singer—and so is her husband. “We’re known to break into spontaneous duets at home or during road trips. Our kids used to be so embarrassed, but embarrassing your kids is part of the parenting job, right?”Marie will be visiting Spartanburg this spring for a special event at Spruce Interiors, and she couldn’t be more excited. “It’s going to be a fabulous evening—like a book club meets girls’ night out. Readers can drop by, grab a signed book, maybe even pick up a gift for Mother’s Day. I know I’ll be looking for something special for my mom.”The Book Club for Troublesome Women is as funny as it is thought-provoking, as nostalgic as it is timely. Perfect for fans of Lessons in Chemistry, The Women, and The Briar Club, the novel pays homage to how far we’ve come—and how we got here together. As Adriana Trigiani says, “This is a novel about ambitious women and the mentors that inspired them to excellence. Bostwick carves an unforgettable path for her characters.”We couldn’t agree more.Don’t miss your chance to meet Marie Bostwick at Spruce Interiors in Spartanburg this May—and pick up your copy of The Book Club for Troublesome Women, available April 22 from Harper Muse.FOLLOW MARIE ONLINE:Website: mariebostwick.comInstagram: @mariebostwickFacebook: @mariebostwickPinterest: @fiercelymariePRESS CONTACT:Angela Melamud, Independent Book Publicistangela@angelamelamud.com

36Kristy Woodson HarveyAUTHORWith eleven novels under her belt and a twelfth on the way, Kristy Woodson Harvey has spent the last decade becoming a beloved voice in Southern fiction. A North Carolina native and New York Times best-selling author, Kristy blends charm, wit, and heart into stories that have captivated readers nationwide. Her newest novel, Beach House Rules, arrives May 27 and marks ten years since the debut of her first novel. Before the big release, she’s heading to Spartanburg for a special pre-celebration at Spruce Interiors on May 26. We caught up with Kristy to chat about her Southern roots, summer reading list, interior design favorites, and what’s next on her literary journey.Your next novel,Beach House Rules, releases May 27! What can readers expect? This is a novel about a mother-daughter duo who moves in with several other families in an oceanfront B&B when their husband/father is convicted of a financial crime. This is a small town where rumors swirl—but this group ends up using that to their advantage to reshape their destinies. It’s a fun, beachy read, and I finally got to use my past life in finance for a novel! After ten years and eleven books, what’s been the most surprising part of your journey? I think I figured that after ten years, I’d have it all figured out, but… Nope! Publishing, like most things, is an ever-evolving world, so I’m constantly learning something new. And I think that’s what keeps it interesting for me!What is it about the South that inspires your storytelling? When you grow up in the South, you take a lot of its nuances for granted and just think that’s the way life is for everyone! I know now—largely from lots of editing with non-Southern editors!—that it is not normal in other places to leave your doors unlocked and for neighbors to just walk in unannounced. And that “bubbles” are not baby outfits in other places in the world. And that not everyone grew up longing to get the distinct honor of being lemonade server after church. I still think the South maintains some special slices of traditions it has always held, and that makes it especially fun to write about. With several books in development for TV and film, is there one you’re most excited to see on screen? For the moment, A HAPPIER LIFE, both because that book has such a special place in my heart and because, if I was a betting woman… I’d bet that is the one that will make it to screen first! You’re stopping in Spartanburg this month on the eve of your big release—what can readers expect? I am so, so excited about this event and so grateful to Spruce Interiors for hosting this book club to celebrate. It’s a real combination of both of my worlds since my mom and I also have an interior design blog, Design Chic. This is going to be a fun, laid-back pre-celebration of this novel, and, if you know me, you know there will probably be a little champagne! (My other favorite bubbles!)May kicks off summer reading! What’s on your personal reading list? I just finished HAPPY LAND by Dolen Perkins-Valdez, and it was terrific! I am so excited for Kristin Harmel’s upcoming THE STOLEN LIFE OF COLETTE MARCEAU. I got a sneak peek of this one, and it is beautiful! Carley Fortune has a new one, and we are going to interview her on the Friends & Fiction podcast, so I’m thrilled to chat with her.If you could host a literary dinner with three authors, living or historical, who would you invite? Jane Austen, obviously. I wrote my master’s thesis on her, and I think she’s the mother of so much of what we do. Betty Smith because A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN is my favorite book ever—and I’ve heard from some much older friends who knew her as children that she was a really good time! And Madeleine L’Engle. I’ve read many of her memoirs, and I just think we would be friends. You also own an interior design company with your mom! What’s your favorite room to design for clients? First, shameless plug: If you love interior design, come hang out with Mom and me on www.mydesignchic.com. You can subscribe to our newsletter and get gorgeous design with your coee every morning. It’s my favorite, soothing way to ease into my day! As for rooms… I’m a living room gal. I love to take a space and make it layered and cozy while also being chic and suited to how a family really lives. It’s so much fun!Do you have a favorite room in your own home? My oce. We added on to our house after the pandemic, but, truly, you cannot tell. Everything we used for the addition is reclaimed so, in some ways, it’s just as 1903 as the original house! But my oce has its own little balcony and floor to ceiling doors and windows on two sides, and the beautiful bookcases on the other two walls (with lucite shelves so it looks like the books are suspended in air without that green cast glass can give.) I love it madly, and I’m happy in it every day!Meet Kriy!MAY 26, 2025 SPARTANBURG | 3PMSpruce Interiors Book Club844 S Pine StreetSpartanburg, SC

40THE ARTFUL WORLD OF ELIZA PRICEHer journey began at the kitchen table—literally. Sent home from college during the early days of the pandemic, Eliza found solace and spark in painting beside her mom. “It became such a great outlet,” she says. “A way to keep exploring art even with no art classes happening.” What started as a simple Instagram account to share her work quickly evolved into a full-blown art business—Eliza Price Art. Last month, she celebrated five years since her very first release. “It’s wild and wonderful to look back,” she reflects.Eliza’s pieces are full of playful color, feminine energy, and just the right amount of whimsy. Whether she’s painting polka-dotted quail or experimenting with saturated acrylics, her work invites viewers to see the familiar in a fresh way. “If I look down at the paper and feel giddy, I know I’m onto something,” she laughs. That instinctual joy is part of what makes her art so magnetic—and so relatable. We asked Eliza about the women who’ve inspired her most, and unsurprisingly, her answer came straight from the heart. “My mom, without question,” she says. “She taught me to find beauty in everything—from blooming flowers to the color palette of a chip bag. That sense of wonder has shaped the way I approach both life and art.”In many ways, Eliza’s story is the perfect tribute to Mother’s Day and to the theme of this issue: Women Who Inspire. She not only finds inspiration in the women around her, but she gives it back through her art and outlook. One of our favorite quotes from her interview?“I always say she’s my favorite artist—not just for what she makes, but for how she appreciates beauty every day.”We know so many of our readers will resonate with that sentiment. Now based in Charlotte, Eliza splits her time between painting and working for an interior designer— an arrangement that keeps her surrounded by beautiful textiles, color stories, and creative ideas. There’s something about spring that makes us want to surround ourselves with beauty—bright blooms, bold colors, and the feeling of fresh possibility. Enter Eliza Price: a Charlotte-based artist whose work captures all of that and more in each joyful brushstroke. From watercolor to collage to “whatever she’s into at the moment,” Eliza is a creative force whose art and energy are as inspiring as the season itself.“Even something simple, like the daodils blooming outside my oce, sparked my most recent body of work,” she says. Nature, especially, fuels her imagination. “Whether it’s a walk in the woods or a trip back to St. Simons Island, Georgia, being outdoors always recharges my creative battery.”And when she’s not in the studio? You’ll find her cozying up at Backyard Brew with an iced Hornet’s Nest latte, catching up with friends, or basking in the sunshine. “Saturday mornings are sacred,” she says. “I’m a creature of cozy routines.”As we head into summer and celebrate the women who shape us, Eliza Price reminds us that inspiration can come from anywhere— your mom, your hometown, a sunny walk, or a quirky collage. You just have to be open to the magic.Follow Eliza on Instagram at @elizapriceart and shop her latest work at elizapriceart.com. Her pieces are also available through the Caroline Nix Gallery in Gainesville, GA.R, WHIMSY & WONDER

Donate Now!LIGHTING THEWAY WITH LOVEHOW LEO SANTA ISBRINGING JOY, COMFORT,AND HOPE TO THOUSANDSOF UPSTATE CHILDRENIn a world where heartwarming stories sometimes feel few and far between, LEO Santa stands as a shining example of what love in action can truly look like. What started on a single Christmas Eve night in 2014 has grown into a powerful, year-round movement powered by first responders, volunteers, businesses, and generous community members across the Upstate. It all began when Deputy Jeremy Jones of the Greenville County Sheri’s Department saw a need—and responded with compassion. While working his shift on December 24th, he noticed children playing outside in a poverty-stricken area and was struck by the reality that many wouldn’t receive a single gift for Christmas. He called his wife, Noel. “Jeremy, you go to the store and buy those kids some toys,” she told him without hesitation. That moment of kindness sparked something much bigger: a mission.Fast forward to today, and LEO Santa is serving over 6,000 children annually through two key programs: Santa’s Heroesand Reignite Hope.SANTA’S HEROES: A YEAR-ROUND TOY DRIVE WITH PURPOSEThe name might evoke visions of sleigh bells and snowy rooftops, but Santa’s Heroes is far more than just a holiday initiative. Captain William “Pat” Donahue of the Greenville County Sheri’s Oce explains, “Santa’s Heroes is a year-round eort of coordination, fundraising, and planning. To provide more than 6,000 children with toys is a herculean eort. By toys, I mean each child gets 3 to 4 toys each. We need to collect between 18,000 and 24,000 toys to meet this goal.”Each Christmas season, more than 300 first responders personally deliver toys to the neighborhoods they serve—areas where children often feel fear or mistrust toward law enforcement. “Seeing us in a dierent light handing out toys to them is a bridge of positivity to change that outlook,” Donahue says. And it’s not just about presents—it’s about presence. That brief moment of connection can change a child’s perception forever.REIGNITE HOPE: RESTORING JOY AFTER DEVASTATING LOSSIn 2023, the Berea Fire Department’s Chief Gary Brock helped launch LEO Santa’s second initiative: Reignite Hope, aimed at children who’ve lost their homes to fire. The emotional toll on young hearts can be overwhelming—but Reignite Hope brings comfort, healing, and a second chance to smile.Chief Brock recalls one experience vividly: “I witnessed a small 8-year-old girl with tears streaming down her face and choking on words explaining to her mom how she had just lost her toys and possessions. Mom was also a mess… Two days later, LEO Santa volunteers are at Target with the child and mom. The smile on that little girl and Mom was priceless as she replaced her lost items.”The program provides a powerful message: you are not alone, and things will be okay.THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIP— AND THE NEED FOR SUPPORTLEO Santa is now entering its 11th year, and its reach continues to grow—not just in Greenville County, but now expanding into Spartanburg. “We grew our eorts of service from 2,500 children in 2022 to over 6,000 in 2024,” says Bart McEntire, Chairperson of the LEO Santa Board. “We believe 2025 will see an additional increase.”And while the community has shown incredible generosity—donating toys, volunteering time, and spreading the word—financial support remains a challenge.“What puzzles me,” McEntire shares, “is our eorts to find corporate sponsors to partner with us through funding has been extremely hard. In the ten years we have existed, we have had only one corporate sponsor step forward with significant funding.”Still, McEntire remains hopeful. “For 10 years, the community has been there for us and my heart tells me they will continue to be there.”100% LOCAL. 100% HEART.Travelers Rest Police Chief Ben Ford sums it up beautifully: “Two things you can count on when you donate to LEO Santa are the funds go 100% to support the mission, and secondly, your donation goes directly to children in the Upstate—not overseas or to another state.”LEO Santa invites all readers to get involved—whether through toy donations, participating in fundraising events, or becoming a corporate partner ready to invest in the emotional and developmental well-being of local children. For more information on how you can help bring joy, healing, and hope to Upstate families, visit www.LEOSantaChristmas.com.This spring and beyond, let’s join LEO Santa in doing what they do best: delivering compassion, joy, and love—one toy, one smile, and one child at a time.
