22Weddings in 2024 have some exciting trends that you will want to incorporate into your big day. Read on to learn more about these exciting trends. This year’s weddings are all about you as an individual. They are becoming more personalized and a little less traditional. You are free to do what you and your fiancé want rather than what has been done in the past. Couples will choose all aspects of their wedding based on their personalities and desires. The use of an abundance of flowers is really taking o. Creativity in florals is also on the rise. The use of tonal colors in florals and the overall color palate will be seen this year. Think of dierent shades of blues or pinks. The other trend you may see is neutrals with a pop of bright color. Authentic and personal details could be included in the florals. A keepsake vase, piece of jewelry or design from generations before may find themselves part of the design.Ceremonies are also becoming more personal. Wedding parties are shrinking, and the length of the ceremony is shorter than ever before. Uniqueness is key in 2024. Bridesmaids are choosing their own dresses and even colors. For those who want the same color, black is going to be very popular in bridesmaids’ dresses. For brides, white is no longer the norm. You will be seeing many brides choosing something other than a white dress. Many may even choose a two-piece design. Oh, and two, even three dress changes are quite the trend.Wedding food has been making changes over the last few years. A huge cake is being replaced with a dessert display or at least a cake with other options. Personalized cocktails and beverages are very popular. Guests will often be ending the evening with a small bite or specialty food item being served or given to take with them; a cone of French fries, a mini cookie, candy, or a donut might be oered. Couples are planning the menu based on their food preferences or serving items with meaning, like grandmother’s pound cake recipe. You will be seeing fewer sweetheart tables and more communal tables as couples realize it is more fun to be with family and friends. As a guest, you might see a dress code or dress request included in the invitation. For instance, they may ask everyone to wear a certain color or dress to a certain theme with a creative flair. At the reception the use of a champagne tower is going to continue to be popular. Also, we see couples designing a crest to use in their stationery or at the reception.Overall, weddings in 2024 will be about having fun and creatively expressing the needs and desires of the couple. So, for those of you who plan to get married this year, be yourselves and let your authentic selves shine! Let this be a time to share the real you as a couple.Berbank Events would love to help you with all your wedding plans. We oer wedding planning from start to finish! 26As we step into the wedding season of 2024, brides-to-be are eagerly searching for the perfect makeup and hair styles that will make them look and feel absolutely their best on their special day. While some trends for 2024 are continuations of 2023, we still see a few new ones this year as well.First, let’s start with skin prep for glowing and radiant skin. The focus on skincare is at an all-time high. Brides are prioritizing skincare routines in the months leading up to the big day to achieve that coveted bridal glow. Dewy, luminous skin is a must, and professional makeup artists are incorporating skincare products seamlessly into their bridal makeup routines. A good exfoliation and moisturizing routine can really go a long way. I think more brides are wanting skin that looks like skin and less of the overdone, over contoured and caked on makeup looks that have been popular in the past. That isn’t to say that contour is going away or that we will not see some brides wanting more full coverage but it’s a more sculpted to blend seamlessly with foundation that lifts the skin instead of just laying on top of it.Some of the biggest makeup trends we are seeing from celebrities in the past year are definitely going to reign supreme in the wedding makeup trends of 2024. These looks are little more about embracing natural beauty and hair styles that are a little sleeker and simplified (which does not mean their are simple to achieve!). Brides are opting for minimalistic makeup that enhances their features without overpowering them. Soft, neutral tones for eyeshadows, subtle blush, and a dewy finish are key elements in achieving this fresh and natural bridal look.Another trend for makeup in general for 2024 that we will still see in the world of bridal makeup is the mono-chromatic look. Whether it’s the latte look of fall ‘23 or the balletcore or soft pinks that we are seeing trend now in ‘24, it’s taking the same tone from eyes to cheeks to lips. When it comes to bridal hairstyles, eortless elegance is in vogue. Updos with loose, wispy strands or a more simple bun with a slicked part and romantic waves are stealing the spotlight. Also making a big splash for bridal styles is a full and fun pony tail! We will still see soft and romantic curled updos but on the whole, brides are opting for hairstyles that look eortlessly chic and allow them to dance the night away without worrying about a hair out of place. On the other end of the spectrum, bold lips paired with statement eye makeup are making a comeback. Deep berry, classic red, or even daring plum lips can add a touch of drama to the overall bridal look. We are also seeing a definite return of bold blush this year! Paired with well-defined eyes featuring smoky shadows and a bold lash line, this trend is perfect for brides who want to make a bold and memorable entrance. Also gaining popularity in the past year but continuing into 2024 is the change of hair and dress. As brides are wanting to see their long gorgeous curls for their ceremonies, they realize they would rather not have to worry about this for the rest of the evening and will have their stylist return to change their hair after the ceremony and sometime into the reception. This is also a power play move if you are wanting to change into a dress thats a little easier to party the night away in!While many trends come and go and then return again years later, one of the news trends we have not seen before is that brides are embracing individuality and personal style. From unique makeup color choices to unconventional hairstyles, 2024 is all about expressing personality. Makeup artists and hairstylists are tailoring their services to bring out the distinct beauty of each bride, ensuring that their look is a true reflection of who they are. So while brides are still wanting to have a timeless look, we are also seeing bold and individual statements! We are seeing less of brides wanting to do their hair a certain way because they feel like it’s “the way it’s supposed to be” and more of because it’s who they really are.Whether brides choose to go for a natural, understated look or opt for a more dramatic appearance, the key is to feel confident, beautiful, and true to themselves on this momentous day. With the right combination of makeup and hair trends, brides can step into their future feeling absolutely stunning and true to themselves.BY KATIECOTTONCotton Rouge & Co.

36Navigating difficulties helped Mandy Roberson, 35, reveal her purpose. At home with three young children during the pandemic, Mandy started collaborating with an Instagram friend, developing ways to keep their kids busy and entertained. “We both had a passion for coming up with pretendplay scenes and easy crafts and activities to do with our kids and decided to share them with the world,” explains Mandy. The duo launched Magic Playbook, a themed monthly play subscription. Now, four years later, there’s a children’s book, a toy line and subscribers across the country. “The feeling of being able to bring a little magic into the homes of so many families has been the ultimate reward.”Why are you so passionate about encouraging pretend play?So many of my fondest memories of childhood revolved around pretend play. Whether I was setting up a zoo for my Beanie Babies or playing teacher with my siblings, I truly believe it inspired my creativity even into adulthood. In our modern world, it is so much harder to find thetime for pretend play. Between technology and the on-the-go lifestyle many of us face, I want to ensure young children still get the experience of growing their imaginations and creativity through pretend play. It also helps developso many social emotional skills at an early age. What is a day in your life like?My day starts around 6:30am by getting my 3 kids [ages 8, 6 and 4] dressed and ready to head to school. Once the kids are off to school, I make a big to-do list for the day. There are 3 columns: one for personal items, one for Magic Playbook tasks, a list of content to create for my personal account@mommasociety. The morning is usually spent checking in with our team of 9 across the US, working with our designer on packaging design, approving samples, going through the rigorous testing and safety certification processes on children’s products, and brainstorming new ideas. At 3:00pm I close my computer and head to the school carline for pickup! The next few hours are a blur of homework, snacks, play, and dinner. Once the kids are down for the night, you can usually find me running to a yoga class and winding down the night in front of the tv watching YouTube travel channels with my husband and sharing fun shopping finds over on Instagram. How do you juggle your business and family life?Wearing one hat at a time. I imagine myself putting on my “mom hat” when I’m in mom mode and try to do the same when I’m in work mode. Signing out of social media on Friday evenings has helped me immenselyto shut off work on the weekends as much as possible. A family Google Calendar housing both personal and work commitments in one spot has been helpful as well.Who is a “boss babe” you draw inspiration from?Julia Berolzheimer, @juliaberolzheimer, was one of the very first influencers I ever followed. I love how she has created not only successful brands, but also an identifiable aesthetic. Her balance of motherhood, work and travel is inspirational. What’s the best thing about being an influencer?Connecting with people from all over the world! Strangers from the internet have turned into wonderful friends. I love how social media can connect you with people you may have never crossed paths within life. What are you most looking forward to this year? Each summer we pack up and head to a new country for a month to immerse ourselves in a new culture. It fills me with new inspiration for my work life, resets us as a family by escaping the busyness of life, and has created some of my most treasured memories. This Summer we’re heading to Denmark.Do you have any Valentine’s Day traditions? On Valentine’s morning we fill the window in our kitchen with construction paper hearts adorned with reasons we love each of our children. It’s simple, but always brings a lot of smiles to all of us.What is your favorite wedding detail? We had a tiny wedding with 50 of our closest friendsand family in the beach town of Corolla, North Carolina in November of 2013. It still goes down as my favorite day of my life. My favorite detail was the dinner we had by candlelight. We had one long dinner table set upon the deck of the beach house we rented. It glowed with hundreds of flickering white candles as the sunset in the background. It truly felt like magic.MANDY ROBERSONMAGIC PLAYBOOK CO-FOUNDER INSTAGRAM CONTENT CREATORgirltalk

Gina Strumpf grew up in North Carolina and is a fourth generation native Charlottean. Her background and interest in art began at a very early age. As an only child, she spent many beautiful hours alone with her vivid imagination and colors. Art was always Gina’s favorite subject in school and as a teenager, she had the opportunity and privilege to be mentored by nationally acclaimed watercolorist, Josette Gurley. With that, she was fortunate enough to have learned many valuable lessons by her easel.Gina went on to earn two full art scholarships. One to the Ringling School of Art and the other to the Traphagen School of Fashion in NYC; Her dream originally was to become a fashion illustrator, however, her love of fashion took her in another direction. Instead, she put her art aside and embarked on a 15 year career as a professional runway and print model. During this time, Gina’s love of art was never far away, always dreaming of a time when she would return. She picked up her brushes again right after 9/11 and a successful career in real estate; “They met me like an old friend.”And so the story goes, the day Gina sold her first painting, she had also just sold a $3 million house, but was more excited about the painting. This reignited her passion for creating and when the market fell in 2008, she was already showing in a number of art galleries and decided to hang her keys up for a full-time profession in art.Gina, tell Belle about what your creative process is like and how you began live wedding painting. In developing my artistic styles, it must be said that my first passion is watercolor; but quickly turned to oil painting. I chose to take workshops with many well-known artists whose style I admired. I love painting on location, En Plein Aire which gave me opportunities to travel while painting outside; this easily became a true passion of mine. This led to an early quintessential style I developed in doing so - My rainy day, city scenes of European cities, such as Paris and London. Which was then later inspired by many trips to New York City.It was my loose style of city scenes that first caught the eye of a young lady in Washington DC. My work was hanging in a gallery there. She reached out and asked if I could paint her wedding. This was over 10 years ago. With my ability to paint quickly from my years of Plein Aire painting and my love of fashion, I quickly agreed. This first wedding took place in the Highlands of NC at the The Farm at Olde Edwards, an exquisite wedding venue. In turn this began a long and beautiful path that I’ve been able to follow for many years now.Tell us how your live wedding painting has evolved over the years.Starting out it was just a few wed-dings a year, giving me the opportunity to continue my traveling as a resident artist and guest speaker for high end cruise lines, Cunard and Oceania. Teaching watercolor to hundreds of passengers each year. When Covid struck, my traveling ended. But my weddings picked up tremendously with micro weddings. Couples wanted to have the opportunity to preserve their moment in time. In just this past year alone, I captured over 45 weddings. In your opinion, what makes your artwork unique and sets it apart from others?I paint in an impressionistic style, always in oil on canvas. I also provide an element of entertainment, in addition to preserving their moment in time, much like the old masters did. I have had numerous couples tell me that the painting I have created is their favorite memory of their wedding day, one they will cherish always. I am humbled and truly honored to be in this most precious celebration capturing their love on canvas.Where can our Belles find and purchase your artwork and book for their weddings?I continue to show my work in various galleries; ArtSource Fine Art in Raleigh, North Carolina; The Little Gallery in Roanoke, VA; The Carlton Gallery in Banner Elk, North Carolina and in my home gallery in Charlotte, Raven Manor Gallery - which is actually my home studio. When opportunity allows, I am always ready to jump on the high seas to my floating classroom. I’ve been aboard many of the beautiful ocean liners to exotic ports and look forward to visiting more. I am open for commission and often paint from photographs when I am unavailable to paint on location. The 2024 wedding season will be in full swing coming up in a few months. I still have a few openings available and I’m booking now for 2025.It’s worth mention-ing that I’ve had the in-credible oppor-tunity to travel to some of the most luxurious wedding venues. As well as some of the star studded weddings ranging from LA, the Dominican Republic, Washington, DC, the Army Navy Country Club and the Monastery Event Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. I’ve also just returned from Austin, Texas where I captured a stunning wedding in the Hill Country just outside of Austin. My personal slogan is “have brush will travel”My website is ginastrumpfstudio.comRequests for a booking are on my website along with a quote for pricing.I look forward to capturing a beautiful moment in time for youArtfully,Gina Strumpf704-619-8100Ginastrumpf@gmail.com@charlotteliveweddingartist

51Interest is rising for gatherings in downtown Spartanburg, South Carolina, and a dynamic event venue is there for it.Citizens and Southern Events is located in the heart of Spartanburg’s Morgan Square, in a historical bank building with beautiful architectural details, neutral colors, and floor-to-ceiling windows that pull in an abundance of natural light. Once a federal reserve bank, the venue’s timeless design provides a flexible canvas and modern charm for events of all occasions. Since the doors opened in 2020, Citizens and Southern has been busy creating memories you can bank on.Launching a new event center in the midst of a global pandemic isn’t on anyone’s business plan, but with experience, creativity, and a mindful full-service approach, Citizens and Southern Events is a standing testament that it can be done – and done well. “You learn to run lean,” says Aimee Cheek, owner and director of events, “and to focus on service and expertise. We believe it’s a privilege when clients allow us to be part of their events, and we know every time we come to work, it’s a special occasion. Our goal is to take away the stress of planning and logistics, so our guests can truly enjoy their experience.”“We handle the details so our clients can focus on the celebration. ~ Aimee Cheek, owner/director of events at Citizens and Southern. “The opportunity to open Citizens and Southern was a full-circle moment in my career and it’s been amazing to see God’s hand in everything that got me to this moment,” states Aimee. She started her event planning career right out of college at a large Midwest church, planning youth camps, proms, dinners and weddings. She then moved into corporate roles within the hospitality industry, where in addition to marketing she created and executed many multi-day conferences with corporate training, team building events and elaborate awards celebrations. While her creative work on hotel and restaurant grand openings and marketing campaigns has garnered multiple local and national awards, Aimee says nothing brings as much satisfaction as seeing an event come together and witnessing the joy of celebration. “Every time I come to Citizens and Southern, it’s a party, unless we start holding funerals!,” she once said. “And then we had our first ’celebration of life‘ that was a cocktail party. It became my team’s mission to give this family the most memorable -- and stress free -- time to remember their loved one. It was the most beautiful and rewarding event.”With more than 30 years of event planning experience, Aimee’s goal is ensure every client benefits from her expertise. “If you have an event with Citizens and Southern, we are here as your planning partner to make it meaningful and memorable,” she says. In the month of love, here are a few of her recommendations for planning a wedding, rehearsal dinner, or anniversary celebration. MID-WEEK AND MICRO-WEDDINGS:Any day is the perfect day for a wedding! Say “I Do!” midweek and you’ll likely save a lot of money on vendors who are more readily available. Thursday is the new Friday and Sunday afternoons are perfect for unions. Weddings featuring brunch and a mimosa bar can stretch a budget without sacrificing any of the celebration. Minimize all the hassle with Citizen and Southern’s all-inclusive micro-wedding package. PERSONALIZATION: Citizens and Southern Events‘ in-house baker, DeeDees Baked, puts the icing on the cake – literally! Today’s couples are more mindful of personalized menus and non-traditional ways of walking down the aisle. Tailoring the entire event to a couple’s unique, shared experiences is a great way to showcase their story and start conversations with guests. Some brides and grooms opt to replace the traditional wedding cake with a layered cookie cake or cheesecake; others provide a special family recipe to be included on the menu. Guests adore personal touches and love being surprised with memorable moments.“Create moments and experiences that represent the couple, rather than the tradition” ~ Aimee Cheek, owner/director of events at Citizens and Southern.
