Page 3 Classification of Year Groups In our Early Years programme we have 3 age groups Pre Kindergarten Kindergarten 1 and Kindergarten 2 Pre Kindergarten 2 3 years old Kindergarten 1 3 4 years old Kindergarten 2 4 5 years old Much of the children s learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage will be through play Children are offered a range of activities each with an underlying educational purpose Research suggests that play is the catalyst for early brain development Play is also the means by which the children explore a variety of experiences in different situations including problem solving and working as a team It is a process which provides for children a way of learning about the world around them Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring being active and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outdoors in our purpose built facility

Page 5 As the students progress through our Early Years Programme they will attain knowledge in 7 areas of learning The areas of learning are communication and language physical development personal social and emotional development literacy mathematics understanding the world expressive arts and design These areas form the foundation for a smooth transition into the Primary School where children study the British National Curriculum through the Inspire Curriculum

Page 6 Assessments Assessments are continually made throughout Early Years to ensure the children are progressing at expected levels and are suitably challenged and supported Work samples are analysed to help document each child s progress and celebrate their achievements At Traill we are aware that gifted and talented students develop at all ages We are able to assess and identify gifted students even at this early age and adjust their education plan to provide more challenging learning Reporting We provide a settling in report mid way through term 1 which will provide parents with a summary of the first few weeks of the school year and a picture of how the student is adapting to life at Traill At the end of Term 1 parents receive a full report Further reports are forwarded to parents at the end of term 2 and term 3 Parents are invited to the school for parent consultation meetings after each report is delivered We actively encourage parents to attend our parent consultations to build a good relationship between home and school What did we do today Parents also have access to our Tapestry system This is a password protected school management system which allows parents to view on a daily basis the activities that their children have been taking part in
