Welcome Celebrating the Master Gardener Program in Spokane County for over 40 years Thank you for joining the Master Gardener Foundation of Spokane County for its 8th Annual Fall Banquet This fundraising event will include a short live auction paddle raise and a keynote presentation from one of the country s most recognized and trusted personalities in gardening and sustainability Joe Lamp l We hope you join in the fun and help support this worthwhile organization Little known facts The first Master Gardener Program was started in Washington state in the early 1970 s when homeowners began clamoring for more accurate horticultural information and better advice about sustainable gardening practices The Master Gardener program now is active in all 50 states the District of Columbia and much of Canada WSU Spokane Master Gardeners are university trained volunteer educators who provide environmentally sound research based garden information to the public After over 100 hours of university training each Master Gardener staffs the Plant Clinic Resource Center answering a wide variety of the public s horticultural questions free of charge Volunteers also contribute to a wide variety of educational outreach projects including local community gardens educational Youth Programs and nearly 300 classes or presentations to the public last year because Master Gardeners are in high demand as community educators
