THE BALTRAY BULLETIN It was a fantastic weekend of golf over the weekend for the 2024 Kingspan East of Ireland. With beautiful weather throughout thetournament, the course held up well and provided a great test for all players. The eventual winner was a deserving one after finishing2nd the last 2 years in a row! It was fitting to see local man from Dundalk Golf Club, Caolan Rafferty crowned champion. With a veryimpressive final round of 65, history was also made by Caolan with a total score of 273 for four rounds, the lowest winning score inthe history of the tournaments 83 years, beating South Africa’s Christo Lamprecht 2018 winning score of 274 by one shot. The tournament would not be possible without the support of members and we would like to extend a sincere thanks to all memberswho supported the event by helping with the various volunteer rolls throughout the event to contribute to making it such a success. TeamsMay was a busy month across the club with the majority of teams in action. In something of a recurring theme, the Mixed Fourball team were beaten in a sudden death playoff by Royal Tara. After a convincing firstround victory, the Leinster Trophy team were beaten in the second round by Laytown & Bettystown. John McCann’s Leinster Senior Men’steam were beaten also by Royal Tara. There were losses in the North Leinster Mixed Foursomes against Headfort and the Irish MixedFoursomes against Rush.Declan McVeigh and Allan Clarke’s Barton Cup team lost out to holders Ardee and their Jimmy Bruen side lost in a sudden death playoff toBlack Bush.In better news, after a convincing victory against Swords, the Pierce Purcell team, ably managed by Ken Meegan and Bernard Woodsmarched on to the next round on 15th June. The Barton Shield side qualified out of their group in Dundalk on the 25th May and movedforward to the next round. Finally the Mens Leinster Fourball led from the front by Captain Martin Healy enjoyed a play off victory againstEsker Hills and await their opponents in the next round. For each team to take the field, it takes players, managers and supporters. Significant work goes on behind the scenes to prepare, assistand help the teams. Undoubtedly while a number of results did not go our way, the Committee would like to sincerely thank the efforts ofall involved and acknowledge their commitment to forming and preparing teams in the last couple of months.Below are a number of photos from our various teams:Update from the Men’s Committee Timesheets and competitions Members are reminded of the following rules.
