REMARKSIn a world that often moves too quickly, dance offers a rare opportunity to slow down, connect with the inner self, and find solace in the present moment. The Indonesian Ballet Gala 2025 extends an invitation to everyone, to step into a space where movement becomes healing, and artistic expression becomes a pathway to presence.Dance has the unique power to transcend words. It reaches deep into the human experience, offering a chance to reflect, to detach from the rush of daily life, and to reconnect—with one’s body, with emotion, and with the community. In this shared moment, the stage becomes not just a place of performance, but a mirror of our own humanity. At Ballet.id, we believe in dance as a transformative force, one that nurtures artistic growth, encourages cultural exchange, and supports mental well-being. As a non-profit organization, our mission is to cultivate a supportive environment for Indonesian dancers through education, showcase, and outreach programs, while engaging audiences in meaningful, accessible ways. The Indonesian Ballet Gala, one of our flagship initiatives, was created to be more than a stage, it is a celebration of collaboration and a space for connection. Since its debut in 2015, the Gala has brought together dancers from across Indonesia and the world, highlighting the potential of Indonesian talent while fostering artistic dialogue across borders. As we mark the 4th edition of the Gala, we would like to express our deepest gratitude—for the passion of the dancers, the trust of our partners, and the unwavering support of those who believe in the power of dance. To all who are part of this journey, thank you.We hope this evening will allow everyone—dancers, audiences, collaborators—to pause, feel, and be moved. May the experience inspire stillness, wonder, and a renewed sense of connection with ourselves and with one another.Enjoy the show!Warm regards,BALLET.ID

Through the Indonesian Ballet Gala, we witness the extraordinary achievements of our ballet and contemporary dance artists. This year’s Gala features 70 talented dancers from Medan, Jakarta, and Bandung, sharing the stage with international artists from Scotland, the Philippines, Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan and Ukraine. We are especially proud to welcome Christopher Hampson, Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet, and Sandra Mavhima, choreographer from Romania. On this special occasion, I also extend a warm welcome to the ambassadors and directors of cultural institutions from our neighboring countries. ABOUTREMARKSBallet.id is a non-profit organization dedicated to nurturing a thriving environment for ballet and contemporary dancers in Indonesia. Since its establishment in 2014, Ballet.id has focused on three key areas: Education, Showcase, and Outreach. These core programs aim to provide opportunities for Indonesian dancers to grow, not just in their technical abilities but also in their artistic development.Born from a deep love of dance and a vision to elevate the status of the art form in Indonesia, Ballet.id is committed to addressing the challenges faced by the local dance community. With a small market niche and limited financial support for artists, dance in Indonesia remains underappreciated. Ballet.id aims to change this by creating platforms for dancers to engage in cultural exchange, collaborate with both local and international artists, and participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives with dance scholars.Ballet.id envisions Indonesian dancers growing into well-rounded artists capable of representing ballet and contemporary dance on the international stage. However, it recognizes that this growth requires more than just raising the technical standards of dancers. The organization is equally focused on educating and engaging audiences, fostering a broader appreciation for the art form across the country. Ballet.id’s long-term goal is to build a sustainable foundation of support for Indonesian dancers, ensuring that the dance community can continue to grow and flourish. The Indonesian Ballet Gala was founded ten years ago with a mission: to bring ballet to the people and celebrate the accomplishments of Indonesian ballet and contemporary dancers. In a country with limited opportunities for dancers to perform on professional stages, the Gala provides a vital platform for local talents to shine.More than a showcase, the Gala fosters two-way cultural exchange—highlighting Indonesia’s rich heritage on the global stage while enabling local dancers to learn from and collaborate with international artists. This exchange strengthens cross-cultural ties, elevates artistic standards, and broadens horizons for all involved.By offering these opportunities, the Gala empowers Indonesian dancers and nurtures an appreciative audience, ensuring the continued growth of ballet and contemporary dance. Ultimately, it aims to build lasting connections between Indonesia and the global dance community through a shared love of the art form.ABOUT BALLET.IDABOUT INDONESIAN BALLET GALA

In 2006, NAMARINA celebrated its 50th Anniversary. With a vision for Indonesia to eventually have a true professional dance year. Since its start, NYD has faced challenges. Dancing is often undervalued, making it hard for talented young people to pursue their dreams. We still need to better understand how dance can enhance creativity and personal growth, and there’s great potential for ballet and traditional Indonesian dance to inspire each other! In light of these challenges, NYD serves as a platform to encourage, nurture, and develop young Indonesian dancers, helping them realize their dreams. Many former NYD dancers have explored various opportunities within the art form, continuing to dance, becoming choreographers, establishing their own dance establishments, and inspiring their communities through dance. NYD, rooted in ballet, embraces all forms of dance and art, promoting collaboration among local and international choreographers. Its mission is to inspire appreciation for dance while upholding core values of dedication and sincerity in every performance. At this special gala, NYD will showcase the beloved piece, Lembayung, which is celebrated for its authenticity and originality in contemporary Indonesian ballet. Since 2006, Sussi Anddri, Maya Tamara, and Dinar Karina have been essential to NYD, guiding our vision over the past 18 years. We’ve experienced a range of emotions—fear, awe, love, and joy—while exploring new artistic expressions. Although we are still pursuing our dreams, the journey has been incredible!Choreographer Details: Sussi Anddri started ballet when she was 9 years old in NAMARINA. In 1996, She was awarded Distinction, and attended various workshops both nationally and internationally to enhance her teaching and artistic knowledge and practice. She is now the Head of Competence Certification NAMARINA. Considering Sussi Anddri’s diverse body of works that span for nearly three decades, from Hitam movement piece that would bring you into the world of our beloved teacher and her underlooked roleas a choreographer which has undoubtedly given significant contributions into shaping the Modern Indonesian Ballet Repertoire. Since NYD was established in 2006, Sussi was appointed as its Resident Choreographer.Sussi cares deeply about the next generation of this nation, she believes that the values of ‘art for education’ will make Indonesian children to become smart, creative, and a great problem solver in their social life. Sussi strongly believes that Indonesian dancers have huge potential and can perform well internationally.Competition, which takes place in both Cuba and MontanaA short poem for Lembayung by Sussi Anddri, 2009Appears because something happens unexpectedly, without a plan, decorating nature to be beautiful, even if only for a moment, and… When will it arrive?Between the whistling wind and the blushing dusk, the rainbow is present as a sign of a eeting moment that embraces the sky, coloring the world before darkness comes.A handful of people are stunned, a group of people disturb the harmony, and many people are just silent, even though they are restless.Who cares about the current situation? LEMBAYUNGNAMARINA YOUTH DANCEMusic | CostumeLembayung is a dance reflecting the reddish-orange sky at dusk, symbolizing sudden, meaningful moments. It captures silent worry. The piece represents fleeting beauty and encourages action before it disappears. Sussi Anddri blends Bali and Nusa Tenggara dance styles with ballet to express cultural heritage.Sixteen years ago, when Lembayung first took the stage, it had a truly remarkable impact! Revisiting the four movement piece allows us to reconnect with our forgotten roots and rich cultures, and in doing so, we can build wonderful connections that promote mutual respect and understanding. Some of the fantastic dancers from the original performance include Andhini Rosawiranti, Davit Fitrik, Irninta Dwitika & Mariska Febryani. The late Serrano Sianturi curated the music selection from his Private Music of the World Library. This collection reflects Sussi’s learning journey, which shaped her curiosity and led her to explore new and often conflicting themes. Lembayung also pays tribute to courageous minorities. In her poignant poem, Sussi asks, “Who dares to change the atmosphere?” She continues, “The rainbow that is expected to be a glimmer of hope, a call to dare to realize, dare to act, before dusk passes and darkness descends.”We hope you enjoy the multi-dimensional ride into Lembayung!THE DANCERSAthaya Puri SyahrialSoraya Nathasya Dwinandry Aurel LarasatiKatya Medina HerlambangFelicia Harenya SuniastariNizieta Fatimah AzzahraIrina Putri SudarsonoLucija Shiraaz AnasKlara Cintya Nindita PrameswariRaafi AlfiansyahKshanti Aisyah KendanaNAMARINA YOUTH DANCE

ASOCIAIA SECIA DE COREGRAFIE+ VARIOUS INDONESIAN BALLET SCHOOLS &COMPANIES”At the Market”This is a newly created choreography set to the music of ”At the Market” by Mihail Jora, well recognised as the first original ballet composed in Romania. The original ballet, which premiered in 1933, is a lively portrayal of a bustling market scene infused with humor, social tension, and romance. It reflects Jora’s groundbreaking work to merge Romanian folkloric themes with modern musical expression, establishing him as the father of Romanian ballet music. For this Indonesian Ballet Gala, choreographer Sandra Mavhima creates an entirely new piece that transcends the literal marketplace setting. While she has previously explored this score in her work at the Bucharest National Opera’s ballet company, this performance emerges as a distinct and poetic meditation on the intricate web of human connections and the silent transformations that shape collective identities.”This rendition is brought to life by a group of Indonesian dancers from various schools and companies, who have come together for an intensive rehearsal period led directly by the choreographer herself. Their collaborative process not only bridges geographies, but also reflects the shared spirit of dedication and artistry across cultures.THE DANCERSEfania Sumanadevi STRDC StudioJohan SunInMotion Dance HouseFelicia Klarisa AngieEn Pointe, International Ballet StudioLaurelia Jivita DeviSTRDC StudioJacinta Keisha Almira The Ballet Academy of Indonesia Michael HalimIndonesia Dance CompanyValerie AgathaMainstream School of Arts

The sky never asks who we areit simply holds our silent hopes, wounds, and dreams.Like a kite dancing in the hands of the wind, we too wander: falling, swaying, then slowly learning to fly. In the small storms of life, our thread of hope often frays, nearly breaks. But in every wound, a new courage is born to rise even higher. This is a story about trusting a path we cannot always see, about letting go of fear, and discovering that falling is not the end— but a part of the journey toward the heights. In this dance, we no longer ask “why,” but instead choose to keep flying, with the wind, with prayers that never cease.AWE KOLEKTIFLANGIT TAK PERNAH BERTANYATHE SKY NEVER ASKSVARIOUS INDONESIAN DANCERS

It captivates with its profound humanism, its deep ethical sorrow, and its unwavering belief in the poetry of life and humanity’s enduring longing for beauty. The work stands as a powerful condemnation of narrow-mindedness, greed, and selfishness, forces that stifle one’s creative spirit and joy.The central philosophical idea of Forest Song is embodied in the character of Lukash, a kind-hearted village youth gifted with the soul of a poet and dreamer. His sincere love for Mavka, his reconnection with nature, and his passion for music reveal his spiritual depth and artistic sensibility. Yet, his submission to his family’s selfish demands, his betrayal of Mavka, and his marriage to the earthly Kylyna extinguish his creative spark and the light within his gentle soul.Mavka, a mythical forest maiden, represents the beauty of nature. Lukash awakens emotions in her that she, as a forest spirit, has never known—bringing both profound joy and heartbreaking sorrow.THE FOREST SONG(« »)ANDRII HAVRYLIUK NATIONAL THEATRE IN BELGRADE & KYIV CITY BALLETJEMIMA VAYA THURINGER STAATSBALLETT
