FALL 2020 – COMMUNITY CONNECTION 3 = Daytime Class = Online ClassHi Everyone! It sure has been a long time since we have been able to get together! We have missed you all so much. There is a lot for us to catch up on when we get back together in person, but before we do I want to let you know of some new opportunities and changes this fall at Community Education. You will notice on the calendar that we are not starting in-person classes until October this year. However, there are some great online classes that you can try during September. Some of these classes are videos you can watch whenever it works for you, others are live get togethers where you can interact with friends from outside your household. Ask a caregiver or family member to help you set this up; details on how to do so are on the Resource Page. We will also be offering some online options throughout the rest of the year, so if you would rather stay at home you can still take part in our classes. You might be wondering what happened to the cooking classes. We hope these will be back in the new year, but we need to be able to plan how we can keep everyone at a safe distance while in the kitchen. In the meantime, you can bake with me or make parfaits with Jenny online. For the time being, our instructors will be demonstrating crafts and activities but will not be able to give hands on assistance. If you think you will need help with a craft or activity at one of our in-person classes, someone from your household group must accompany you to provide assistance. They will need to register for the class so that we know how many people to expect. They do not need to pay unless the class indicates a staff fee. Both you and anyone accompanying you will be required to wash their hands on arrival and wear a mask for the entire time of the class. We will arrange the room so that everyone can maintain a safe distance from those not from their own household group. We have still planned some of our usual large group activities, such as dances and trips to the movies. We will be following advice from the Governor as to whether or not these will be able to be held. You will nd more information on the Resource Page. Please do read it or make sure someone reads it for you. We will also have a resource page on our website www.rochesterce.org/enrichment/adults-with-exceptional-abilities/covidupdates with up-to-date policies. Please let us know if you have any questions as we plan to reunite while still staying safe.Looking forward to seeing you soon,StephanieCrafty CornerTeacup Bird Feeder – Online Course Fall is here but the birds still need to eat. Adults with Exceptional Abilities | 507-328-4000 | www.rochesterce.org/register16We have all been learning some new habits and skills over these past few months. Whether it’s remembering to wear your mask when you go to the store, or checking in with your doctor via video, it’s a different way of life for all of us. Here at Community Education we have been working hard to create new ways for you to keep in touch, not just with us, but with each other. Some of these new online classes may seem a little strange to begin with, or maybe you have already been Zooming and Facetiming with friends and family, and connecting in that way feels normal. Either way, this resource page is intended to walk you through how to join our online classes. We are offering two different types of online classes.Prerecorded Video ClassesThese are classes that you can choose to do at any time after the class is posted according to the date in the catalog. Two days before the class we will send you a link to view the class. We need to have an up to date email address for you to receive this link. We will also deliver any required supplies in time for you to do the class; so make sure if you move that we have your new address. Live ClassesThese are the classes where we get to see each other and play games, or just hang out and chat. In order to see everyone and join the fun, you will need to have a couple of things. The computer you use will need to have a working camera and microphone. At this time, you will not be able to see everyone if you use a tablet or smartphone. You will want to use Chrome, not Internet Explorer or Firefox. You can join our meetings by using a google account, if you have one, or by simply going to meet.google.com. There are many YouTube videos you can watch which explain how to join a Google Meet; here is just one example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRZckVNQS7ITwo days before the event we will send you a link to join the class. Again, we need to have an up to date email address for you to receive this link. You can let us know if you want the link sent to a different email address up to three days before the class. Please also make sure we have a phone number where we can reach you during the class. That way, if you have any difculties we can call you and help you sort them out. When it is time for the class to begin, you simply click on the link in the email and you will be able to join the fun.Does this sound a little difcult? It really isn’t, but we suggest you might want to practice a few times and get used to using Google Meet before the rst class. Go to meet.google.com and explore a little. Remember, you will want to add the Chrome extension Google Meet Grid View. If you would like to practice with Stephanie, before we start up in September, you can contact her at stconkright@rochester.k12.mn.us and she will set up a time with you to chat on Google Meet.
