Youcan be part of the team stateside by helping provideneeded household items.Be part of the team stateside.Here’s how. Grab a tag from the white Equipo tree inthe lobby. Buy the item and place it under the treeunwrapped with the tag attached. Some tags give a dollar amount with the item. Forthose, please do not buy the item. Instead, put cashor a check in a clearly marked envelope and/or withthe tag. Place in the offering bucket or give directlyto Becky Daley or Jim Fisher. But why give money instead of just buying everything?“Every item we take into Mexico, we are charged17% percent duty on,” Jim Fisher said. This is whythe team does not accept clothes, shoes and otherdonations,” Becky said. Further, there is a maximumamount of items allowed into the country.There is a 17% duty and maximum amount of items allowed.If the truck is too full, it goes through a much longer,extensive search at the border. “One year, Jackie[Fisher] had to take $300 of groceries back into theU.S. so the truck could cross the border!” Becky said. It is cheaper to buy some items in Mexico.Another reason the team requests cash or check isthat it is cheaper to buy some items in Mexico.“$100 buys 120 to 140 dollars of product there,” Jimsaid.
