Meet our New Member to the Team Welcome Christine McDonaugh Kiʔsuʔk kyukyit!! My name is Christina McDonaugh, and I was born in a place traditionally known as Nogojiwanong which means “place at the end of rapids” in Ojibwa. I grew up knowing this place as “Peterborough, Ontario”. My husband and I moved here from Golden 23 years ago to make our home here and raise our family. During my time in this area, I have developed an appreciation and deep respect for Ktunaxa people who continue to care for these lands that were neither taken by war nor ceded by agreement. I still have much to learn. I feel privileged to have this opportunity to work as the community counsellor for the ʔaq̓am community with the Health and Wellness team. My interest in counselling began 30 years ago, then my path drew me to the world of policing and probation, where I hoped to help people, but neither of those really were a good fit for my personality. Luckily, I had an opportunity to complete my Master of Counselling through Gonzaga when the program came to Cranbrook in 2011, completed my practicum with Ktunaxa Kinbasket Child and Family Services, and have worked as a counsellor ever since. I’m so grateful my path has led me here. In my spare time, I enjoy connecting with my almost-adult children, gardening, hiking, art and hanging out with my dog. I look forward to getting to know the community here and strive to become a positive part of the health and wellness team. Taxa -Christina
