The night of June 15th 2020 would have been just another night for any individual yet miles away Galwan Valley witnessed bloodshed 20 brave Indian soldiers of the 16th Bihar Regiment lost their lives while safeguarding their country few miles away from the Line of Actual Control LAC The country officials have concealed details of the skirmish yet one thing was certain it alarmed the country that this was the last straw Since the Galwan Valley attacks the government has taken appropriate measures to retaliate by hitting China in a spot they weren t expecting India banned 59 applications of Chinese origin on the grounds of breach of data security andsovereignty concerns Applications sharing the same Operational Ethics and the decoyed versions also faced bans By invoking its power under Section 69 A of the Information Technology Act the Ministry of Electronics and IT instructed Google and Apple to remove these apps from their respective application store WHY WERE THESE APPS BANNED In a press release The Ministry of Electronics and IT alleged that they had received complaints that some mobile applications were abusing their control over the users data channeling it unlawfully to locations outside India Though India was the first country to banish these apps Robert O Brien The US National Security Advisor claimed that these applications and companies function to expand ideological and geopolitical agendas of the Communist Party of China CPC The border tensions between India and China is a dominant motive force for this ban yet it wasn t an impulse action and solely associated with these tensions Pg 7 THE USER BASE OF THESE APPS IN INDIA TikTok by far is one of the most synonymous names with social media influencers and celebrities for content creation The video platform had 200 million users and 120 million monthly active users from India and clocked 5 5 billion hours of the app s usage in 2019 The ban didn t only have a direct effect on the influencers but brands that used the huge consumer database as a promotional channel also observed a setback UCBrowser trailed Google Chrome as the most used internet browsing on mobiles in India The Alibaba Groups platform held a market share of 22 as compared to Google s 70 India s segment contributed about 20 of the ShareIt s global revenue a Hong Kong based company Every fashionista in India has interacted with the Chinese app Shein that had about 1 million active users with the majority coming from tier II and tier III towns in India Finally CamScanner a popular scanning application has more than 100 million registered users in India

OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIAN COMPANIES For years India has scuffled to challenge China in terms of the digital offerings provided These Chinese companies are densely endorsed with capital and massive capabilities to wide scale their marketing tactics This move can have a colossal effect on the start up culture in India providing a contingency to flourish globally while also valuing data privacy With the digital wave hitting the country there s a window for these start ups to thrive The Government recently announced the Atmanirbhar App Innovation Challenge an initiative to promote an upcoming secure and independent digital India These startups can provide solutions and services that can fill the gap created by these Chinese products and services HOW HAS THIS MOVE AFFECTED INDIA With the economy spiralling the Chinese companies residing in India are expected to layoff employees The ban has jeopardised TikTok s parent company ByteDances decision to invest 1 billion in India Alibaba owned UCWeb also terminated and let go of employees The company that had entered the country almost a decade ago had 100 employees yet the number of layoffs hasn t been officially revealed yet On the other hand Club Factory a fashion and beauty e commerce store has reduced payments to the sellers having enforced Force Majeure Event a clause in the contract that frees both parties from liability or obligation when an extraordinary event or circumstance is beyond the control of the parties Pg 8 The ban also has had ramifications on Indian startups and heavy investments by Chinese firms are presumed to stop and the contracts cancelled in certain extreme cases The business sentiment between the Chinese and Indian s has certainly hindered causing cash flow and liquidity hiccups and these companies have to turn their heads towards other countries for funding THE FALL IN THE TRADE DEFICIT India currently observes a 48 66 Billion trade deficit fall from 53 56 billion India has observed a massive Anti China sentiment ever since the frequent border clashes From people hurling their televisions from the balconies to ministers boycotting Chinese food the nation saw a wave of change in their behavior towards Chinese products Though there were no aggressive announcements public sector companies are desisting from new contracts while anti duties are being imposed Certain regulations and quality norms have been set for certain goods With the aggressive steps taken by the Governemt of India it s almost certain that the rational Indian consumer has realised the extent of China s interference and disruptions in both the economy and security matters of India The initial steps taken surely is a long path to walk yet it shows a sovereign and a united front from the people of India The current events may seem symmetrical to the USA China trade war but this has certainly paved the way for Indian companies to thrive and capture the markets instead of pondering about the lost opportunities The ones to make the first move will be the biggest winners while the others would patiently hope to wait for another window of opportunity Dhruv Kataria

The tech is far from perfect but this would be simply too rare of opportunity for you to scrub away without giving it a thought Introduction to Blockchain Blockchain technology is shaping industries as it is more efficient and trustworthy Since it is relatively new there aren t that many skilled personnel around to develop solutions Yet obviously the industries and enterprises are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of finding experts So when there s a dire need of such talent blockchain tech should be at least in the top 10 of your list for viable careers because the tech has already proved its worth enough to say that it s here to stay It doesn t matter if you aren t skilled in coding or programming a lot of experts can specialise in other blockchain matters Why Should I Go for A Career In Blockchain Global Revolution US millennials and Gen Z kids are constantly throwing around the word impact when talking about jobs well here s your chance Working with something new is always interesting and impactful For generations people have been drawn to new possibilities in this space and blockchain fits right in there The tech is far from perfect but this would be simply too rare of opportunity for you to scrub away without giving it a thought Show me the Money A career in blockchain technology means a sizeable amount of money The salaries may vary anywhere in the range of US 50k US 130k That is a lot of money especially if you are not a developer or an engineer Moreover if you can prove that you are super skilled in blockchain companies are willing to pay a great deal just to make you happy Pg 12 Lesser Competition There are fewer people skilled in this tech considering the required level of sophistication This discourages people from taking a risk and pursuing this sector If you can power through all the hard work and fully develop or even understand how the technology works you ll be a frontrunner in this r evolution

Page 13

And now comes the How It s not easy But here s how you can start Learn About the Basics If you are a newbie then this is a very crucial step You can t dive into the tech without learning its fundamentals The key is to learn how the tech works its history about different pinpoints like consensus and smart contracts possible use cases etc Start Developing Your Cross Discipline Broad Skills Enterprises are looking for talent that can solve critical issues in a short amount of time Skills like analyzing being agile DevOps design thinking are essential If you can combine these with your technical abilities you ll surely be on your way This is where you develop your niche Understand How Different Blockchain Platforms Work This step is for both technical and non technical job profiles From a technical point of view you need to understand precisely how multiple platforms work As not all blockchains work the same way figuring out the necessary pattern is crucial If you cannot then making a solution would become reasonably tricky Platforms such as Corda Quorum Hyperledger and Ethereum are something you should focus on Have a Technology and Business Acumen Enterprise Environment While working in an enterprise environment with top professionals you get to speed up your networking IBM J P Morgan Citi bank are just some of the major names that are recruiting experts in blockchain You will get to be on a team and also work in a strategic environment where you will have lots of scope for growth More so these enterprises are packed with access to high end technologies which will help you build your solution Pg 13 When you want to get career opportunities in blockchain within an enterprise environment you need to have a higher business perspective So business outcomes from every solution that you design needs to stay relevant That is why learning how the business functions should be your priority as well This is where you ll use your Business Management Siddharth Dave Jazib Sukri Mohammed Abrar Asif

8 Elements of the spiritual practices of other cultures in Western conservatory acting schools Do you think there is a connection between your spiritual or religious self and your own creativity Juweria Jilani Vice President Religious I don t understand the point of religion in modern society apart from tricking animals into adopting civilization and ensuring the civilized poor remain robbed and enslaved Spiritual If you are speaking of an undying personal soul the jury is out though I suspect the personal aspect of it is our human ego desiring to be special If you are speaking of a connection and an acknowledgment of it all being the same sort of matter the same everpresent then I m with you Is there a connection between your spiritual self and your actual self I guess you can t have one without the other Is there a connection between your actual self and your creativity I guess you can t have one without the other So yes Like when a 16 year old kid sings with a voice full of world weary hope and bittersweet broken love and angelic innocence all at the same time I imagine that they are channeling things Collective unconscious perhaps I imagine the same would be true for an brain given the right script to dive off of and the right director to capture it 9 In your poem Involuntary you express how a person s choices are not a conscious decision but the result of early back to those formative years of life explore that black hole of mystery and memories and add subtract an elemake Remember this is also a choice Sakshi Siddham President I don t have a clue If I could see it all maybe I would have the gut reaction of wanting to tweak things but I think everything is connected in a way I can t possibly completely understand Tiny connections that I cannot fathom Again this question is predicated on an idea of being a fuller better completer person somehow with an added or a subtracted element I am a full complete person Pg 17

President Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery in the year 1865 yet were the African Americans truly relieved of the vicious tags they carried through the centuries Discrimination racism prejudice is still the stigma of the contemporary era nullifying everything the greatest leaders in the world preached and fought for Despite labeling the world to be in a modern era with the advancements as a society we have one leg in the past and one leg in the present while our morals ethics and upbringing is just a push away from losing balance and collapsing on to our world George Floyd was just another commoner entering a food store to purchase something In about 35 minutes his words I can t breathe became the tality around the world Yet this wasn t event involving racial bias had caused people to unite Today racism is as prevalent as poverty global warming and a war All the aforementioned examples humanity heavyweight boxing champion said The virus has been declared a pandemic This is out of control And I m not talking about COVID 19 The virus I m talking about is called racism Joshua draws a comparison between COVID 19 and racism both being a life taking virus spreading across all sectors Right from the entertainment industry to sports to corporate life and even to the extent of your personal life the parameter for judgments George Floyd was just another commoner entering a food store to purchase something Pg 22 The 88th Academy Awards hosted in 2016 drew criticism from the industry due to the lack of diversity A majority of the nominees were Caucasians and the trend OscarSoWhite blew on social media websites with various artists expressing their concerns due to the lack of inclusions and basing it on racism and asking for the awards to be boycotted Yet there were 2 sides of the story presented where people argued that the nominees were based on talents and to imply that it was based on a race card was inappropriate while the other argument sparked was that every story needs to be told and everyone should be a part of the art As a result the industry was divided into their own opinions

Page 23

The stadiums packed with fans often show their disrespect towards chants throwing a player off their game Players have often seemed to leave the match due to the immense pressure of performing in such situations with many breaking down on the pitch Football being an extremely competitive sport observes hundreds of fans facing bans each year due to the racist chants on the Reaching out to these players via social media accounts and handles and passing these comments have led to players calling for mental abuse on many occasions Sportsmen through the ages have taken a stance against it with many sports brands and associations supporting these causes yet all it has done is enraged these fans more prompting them to amplify their approaches by confronting these players in person intruding into their private affairs Racism is one of the greater wars The following year observed a rise in the nominees with black artists with every category including an artist of African American origin There were still opinions skewing on either side with a hypothesis forming that if the preceding year 2016 didn t have the OscarSoWhite movement would these which has been in debates for a long time Yet the common statement shared was art has no boundaries and it deserves to be celebrated irrespective of the occasion and platform Many people embrace sports as a religion and their players as Gods of the games Pg 23 that should have ceased to exist centuries ago is still being fought The question here isn t how is it going to stop but when is it going to stop Numerous ways have been preached through decades about how this can be defeated yet with changing times is a huge movement such as BLM movement enough to ignite the interest of the masses for the cause As an individual one should strive to be neutral towards discrimination of any sort while also stymying others from discriminating on any grounds Dhruv Kataria

Sony seems to have a clear advantage over Xbox when it comes to Virtual Reality There doesn t seem to be a major difference in the CPUs of the two the PS5 with 3 5 GHz AMD Zen 2 and Xbox with 3 8 GHz of the same The Xbox would supposedly be slightly faster The GPU quite steep operations per second a piece of hardware can handle The SSD can be a game changer too since both come with built in SSDs the loading process is made to be much faster The upcoming Xbox would have a fairly conservative design It resembles a vertical PC tower with a smooth black framework and the disc drive being in front of the console This works well geometrically since you d be able to place it horizontally too On the other hand the PS5 design is quite fresh As showcased In June the console looks like a rounded lack rectangle surrounded by two white wings that almost come together in Notably this console will be available in two different layouts a standard version with a disc drive and a Digital edition without one It seems like the Xbox design is more of a traditional one whereas the PS5 is more of an experimental one The PS5 exclusives are true PS5 exclusives that means one won t be able to play the exclusives like Spider Man Miles Morales Ratchet Clank Rift Apart and Horizon Forbidden West on PC Pg 25 X 5 Xbox Series VS Play Station On the other hand after the Xbox games showcase on the 23rd of July we have a much better idea of what to expect from the Xbox exclusives The biggest title have Senua s Saga Hellblade II as an exclusive The Xbox has a potential edge in this segment as every Xbox X game will be available for PC unlike the PS5 Microsoft by all accounts is prioritising an ecosystem over an individual console

Page 26

Sony seems to have a clear advantage over Xbox when it comes to Virtual Reality The PS5 will be completely compatible with the PlayStation VR headset whereas Microsoft has shown no sign of an Xbox VR headset However as the VR headset is an extended purchase and are bought at exorbitant rates It really may vary how interested you are in the VR tech The PS5 will come with a storage capacity of 825 GB with 16 GB worth of RAM whereas the Xbox X would have 1TB worth of storage with the same RAM However in both consoles one can expand its storage through third party SSDs To conclude the Xbox X series and the PS5 have captured the media both are expected to fundamentally upgrade the concept of gaming to a whole new level The anticipation to get hands on experience with the beautifully made consoles is on a constant rise and hype Some consumers may simply want to wait to see if the consoles are worth the upgrade and the impact of the pandemic on many people s income could worthy competitors choosing the better one is one hell of a task and this announcements For the moment talking about the prices of these two supreme consoles is an exercise in speculation Even though it s too early to tell and there are too many missing pieces to interpret the price we still have a lot of hints for the same The PS4 had launched at 400 whereas the Xbox One had launched at 500 but not to forget that these consoles were launched back in 2013 and in a very different market at very different stages for their respective companies Sony was trying to recover itself from the lack of success from the PS3 and Microsoft had believed that it would fundamentally change the media landscape on its hands There have been umpteen supposed leaks for the expected prices of these consoles by various professional gamers online retailers and analysts have put the price of the PS5 as high as 1043 and as low as 396 As for the Xbox X Series it is expected to priced at least 499 But these leaks or estimations can t be trusted not least cause Sony and Microsoft are yet to regarding the prices respective consoles Pg 26 of their Chirag Bakliwal

SPORTS INFOTAINMENT STORY OF A SPORTS FAN Sports during COVID times Wankhede stadium had erupted in a thunderous unison as MS Dhoni made his way onto the pitch Cool as ice he led his team from the front to victory in the 2011 World Cup Final fulfilling a billion dreams in one epic night I have fond memories of that night as it was the first time I had witnessed a cricket match in a stadium Seeing his heroes in action was something a 10 year old kid dreams of but what I remember most about that game was the deafening sound of pure ecstasy that surrounded the stadium when Dhoni hit the six that sealed the Cup for us Sitting amongst a crowd of 33 000 people I broke down on my father s shoulders overwhelmed by the plethora of emotions that had seemingly engulfed the entire arena Wankhede had opened the doors of heaven for me God sitting on the shoulders of his teammates ran laps around the stadium while the crowd sang his name in sterling jubilation I witnessed a moment for the ages I witnessed greatness in action perseverance being rewarded and the joyance that came with the corroboration of faith It was a sight that I will take with me to my grave Pg 28 Dhoni Dhoni Dhoni

S Now a young adult of 20 I have been lucky enough to witness many sporting events from the stadium Be it shouting You ll Never Walk Alone at the Anfield or staying silent while the Swiss maestro worked magic on Centre Court the experience is always unique Yet the one thing that remains constant across the board are the fans and for a fan a stadium is like a gateway to paradise It brings together thousands of strangers from different walks of life and gives them a sense of belonging By the time the game is over they are strangers no more It s surreal No other place unites people the way a stadium does These people the fans are what makes sports so great But a large cloud of uncertainty looms over us Coronavirus has had a heavy toll on the world With millions of cases around the globe it seems unlikely that we ll be able to experience jam packed stadiums anytime soon This has impacted the sports industry heavily but has also impacted the fans Pg 29 Liverpool was set to lift the Premier Trophy after a long wait of 30 years and they did that in front of an empty Anfield Stadium For a 60 year old man who s been a boyhood fan it s beyond disappointing to watch the iconic moment on the television alone instead of watching it from the stands while singing You ll Never Walk Alone with thousands of people who re just like him But he s still one of the lucky ones Football returned after a 3 month hiatus Tennis fans have been even more unfortunate Wimbledon arguably the most prestigious Grand Slam was canceled this year the first time since World War 2 Roger Federer one of the greatest athletes to grace the earth is towards the end of his career This may have been his last Wimbledon

Page 30

Watching the wizard effortlessly work his magic in a packed Centre Court for the last time would ve been something the fans could ve remembered until their last breath Wimbledon isn t the only major sporting event to be canceled this year The Euros Copa America and most importantly The Olympics were all supposed to be held in the summer have now been postponed to 2021 These events happen every 4 years and fans eagerly and patiently wait for it Seeing these events get canceled a few months before they re supposed to start is disheartening to say the least In India Coronavirus has been an even bigger villain Apart from the rising number of cases in the country Coronavirus has delayed the start of the Indian Premier League Scheduled to start on the 27th of March the tournament will now most probably be played in September the window in which the T 20 World Cup was supposed to take place The tournament however will not be played in India It is likely to take place in the UAE Cricket is regarded as a religion in India and the IPL its biggest festival A festival uniting the country like none other Shifting a cricketing carnival like this from India to a country with little cricket culture is bad news for IPL fans On the good side the IPL has not been canceled however the fans won t be able to experience the carnival first hand All said the future of sports looks uncertain because of the virus But things are gradually improving In a recent friendly between PSG and Celtic 5000 fans were permitted inside the stadium We fans can only hope for things to get perfectly fine soon I for one am pretty sure that when I enter a stadium after this long hiatus I ll be that 10 year old boy going for his first live game again But till then I wait Aryaman Agarwal Pg 30
