Our team approaches eating and weight disorders with multifaceted and evidence based programming tailored to each person's needs. ASCEND adeptly adjusts the components of treatment. We tenaciously approach client care and discover what is necessary to achieve and sustain recovery for each individual.Eating and weight related difficulties (EWD's) may present in combination with other mental health issues including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, addictions, or self-injury, and medical conditions such as diabetes melitius, food allergies, celiac disease, or weight related disorders, and more. ASCEND addresses the needs of the whole person. These related conditions may require less or more intensive care depending on their level of complexity and severity. Jenny H. Conviser, PsyD, CEDS-S, CMPC, is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the Feinberg School of Medicine of Northwestern University. Dr. Conviser holds Certificates of Training in Behavioral Medicine (University of Chicago), Family and Child Psychotherapy (The Family Institute, Northwestern University), Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) (International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals) (IAEDP), and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), Association for Advancement of Sport Psychology (AASP). Dr. Conviser was previously a NCAA Division I, Head Coach, at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and is currently a member of Big Sky (Sport Psychology). Dr. Conviser works with athletes, teams, parents, sports medicine providers, sports administrators and coaches. Services provided target improved performance and optimal physical and emotional well-being. Dr. Conviser conducts Mental Skills Training for the United States Figure Skating, Senior, Elite and National Team Members, and for United States Figure Skating National Champion Silver Medalist (2013), Sochi Bronze Olympic Medalist (2014) and Pairs National Gold Medalist in 2019. In 2010, Dr. Conviser was awarded the Humanitarian Award, Sierra Tucson. Dr. Conviser founded the Illinois Sport and Performance Institute (ISPI), dedicated to improving safe training and competition, positive coaching and superior performance. In addition, Dr. Conviser directs Mental Performance Training Programs for professional opera vocal artists with Opernfest Prague, in the Czech Republic. Dr. Conviser provides senior medical, academic and corporate staff training, supervision, program development and intensive care for the most critically ill: life threatening, trauma, co-occurring addictions, mood, anxiety and eating disorders and has served as invited editor for the Journal of Sport Psychology in Action and Guest Editor for the Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology.Dr. Conviser conducts Northwestern University IRB Approved Research, examining factors such as the impact of early childhood illnesses on increased eating disorder risk (International Journal of Eating Disorders, March 2018). Additionally, Dr. Conviser studied communication and dental health among patients having eating disorders (Journal of the American Dental Association & The Eating Disorder Review, 2014).OURTeamAs a professional member of the Academy of Eating Disorders, Dr. Conviser served on the Advocacy and Communication Committee directed campaigns to reduce weight related stigma, argued for reduced use of Body Mass Index Measurement in the school settings, and campaigned for healthy weight related depiction of children in television programming.As a member of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP) Dr. Conviser advocated for children’s health via research, policy development, and physician training for the Pediatric Obesity Prevention Initiative targeting physician/patient communication throughout the state of Illinois. Dr. Conviser is Founder and CEO of Ascend Consultation in Health Care, LLC., providing clinical behavioral health services in the Midwest.
