statementHello! My name is Gabi and I am a Multimedia Artist. Growing up at the intersection between American and Brazilian culture, I have always been interested in alternative forms of communication for when ideas don’t translate. As a result, I love to explore how to express memories and emotions through my art. I enjoy genres such as conceptual art, fantasy, surrealism and the abstract, and the “uncanny.” My work is not restricted to any one particular medium, and I love experimenting with new forms of art. Some of my favorite mediums to work in include set design, photography, computer graphics and digital design, typography, sculpture, and collage.

“Delusion” is a visual expression of the blurred line between reality and fantasy. How do we reconcile our dreams with the real world? Sometimes, it can be painful to watch childhood fantasies darken or become twisted if they seem unattainable, and they can become haunting, like a dead dream. In my personal experience with dissociation, it can be difficult to grasp concepts of time, identity, existence, and reality. But this is not always a bad thing; sometimes seeing the world through a more vivid lens is simply more interesting than the dullness of the real world. The mirror, used repeatedly in the project, serves as a reminder of how confusing certain concepts such as identity, existence, or reality can be. It can feel like a portal between worlds or a glass through which the subject looks through. It is sometimes being held in a controlled and calm manner, but sometimes it can also be heavy or difficult to hold on to or look through.Models: Liana Medeiros, Isabella Mabon, Juliana Debellis, Zander Habrat, Deena Haddad

Photoshop, 2017The Way Home is a short moving collage created entirely frame by frame on Adobe Photoshop. It pulls visual inspiration from Brazilian poetry and music, drawing connections between human beauty and nature. In this short, we follow the journey of a boy's kite through the beautiful cultural landscapes. Music: Altar Particular by Maria Gadú

More Than Just Labels2022So often we are quick to assign superficial labels to ourselves and others. These labels wrongly define the depth of each person’s experience and identity, and often hinder meaningful connections and personal growth. “More than Just Labels” is an immersive art piece and game that explores the role such surface-level labels play in creating division, and how open-minded and sincere conversations can help to heal and combat the divide. Each hallway represents a different ‘experience’ a person might have during their lifetime, and the negative and positive labels associated with that experience. The middle room is where the two experiences can connect and learn more about each other’s true identities. With a friend or a stranger, walk through opposite hallways and meet in the middle room to play the card game.video installation, mixed media, sculpture, digital prints, card game
